Where did he say price was going?
-
And that's what Hahn kind of said he was wrestling with when talking about that deal. It wouldn't even be something to think about if it was price but Sale is a different story. Sale, Giolito, Kopech, Cease and one solid 5 would be a great rotation and if they kept him healthy 5/145 is a reasonable deal. They could also keep Beni in LF where he is good and keep Mazara in RF for one year to see how he is and have Eloy and Abreu switch off between 1B and DH. Keep Madrigal...having solid D up the middle is important. Send Vaughn and Stiever and get the trade for Sale and Beni done.
-
When Hahn said there were temptations and he was talking to KW about it, if it's BOS it's almost certainly Sale not Price. The elbow is a big risk and they'd have to have our doctor's look at it thoroughly. Vaughn AND Madrigal is alot to pay and the 145m with that risk is alot to assume. Benintendi being thrown in helps and I know they were gonna draft him when we took Fulmer. We have a ton of 1B types, but I don't want to lose Madrigal. He's not as easily replaceable. How bout we just take the Sale contract and Beni in exchange for Vaughn, Collins, Mazara, or maybe Vaughn plus Stiever or one of the pitchers we drafted this year. Or what about just taking Sale straight up for Vaughn since we would be eating all the salary. I know their top prospects are 1B but they can move Vaughn if they want.

What about the elbow?
-
Rabbit needs to get off this board and check in with his sauces in the FO. And then promptly get back on the board and share.
-
What about the elbow issue with Sale. If he gets TJS in the middle of the window with us holding the salary bag it will be trouble.
-
I still dont like Nintendo's lack of power. Roid him up to Super Nintendo.
-
If it's a 3 team trade, it would suggest price is going elsewhere, Sox are eating money, and some other SP is coming to us.
-
If Beni is attached what was the point of adding Mazara....where would he play? Unless Beni will be in his natural LF position (hold down CF till Robert arrives) and Eloy goes to DH.
-
Not both...no. We're sitting on a pile of money so they need to exhaust creative financial engineering to make a trade work before giving away both. Hell no. It's disgusting that we would have to give away both when we have loads of cash. Find a team the Rays like some prospects from, take a bad contract off the hands of said team, give the Rays the prospects plus some non-untouchables from us.
-
The Rays still owe Kiermaier like a minimum of about 35m if you include the buyout for 2023. Didn't he have a bad year? If they are so cost conscious, maybe we could take that contract off their hands in lieu of Vaughn or Madrigal and then supplement it with Bummer, ReyLo and a couple guys in the minors.
-
Then they won't get anything of true value.....unless it's a package of major leaguers like ReyLo/Bummer/Fry etc.
-
Why not? They've done that for a whole off-season and a half, already.
-
Vaughn/Dahlquist/Thompson.......hmm

Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker

Not if Vaughn is the main piece of a package for a stud pitcher. Jose would remain at 1B most likely since he hates DHing and they apparently cater to his every whim. -

Yes, if it is the Rays, it's more likely to be Vaughn because of that trade. Hahn would also hide behind the fact that Vaughn is at least a year away from MLB and he'd say his adjustment period would be right in the middle of the window and with Jose's extension and lack do desire to play DH (as if that's relevant), there was "no place" for Andrew as a result. It just sucks Wheeler's wife put us in this position of having to cannibalize the key fruits of the rebuild for a pitcher but it is what it is. -

There's zero chance of that, although I'd say that comment suggests one of Vaughn or Madrigal could be in a package for a legit stud (Snell?). -

The optimist in me also reads him as implying that since money was saved in RF, we can spend on pitching be it FA or absorbing a bad deal in a trade in exchange for a good long term SP at a cost controlled price (Snell?). Ofcourse if it were Snell or something like that, it would probably have to be a three team trade. I'm not sure Tampa has many really bad contracts they want to move. -

I'd like to see who the platoon partner is, if it's not Leury. Any cheap RH RFers on the market? -

Steamer has Mazara projected for 27 homers (over about 140 games) next year although if he is going to be a platoon option he probably won't be playing 140 games even if healthy. -

Joc would have been much better although admittedly I do not know the price the Dodgers wanted. -

Heyman said we were clearing money for Rendon with this deal. Lol. -
Now that they didn't allocate any real money for RF, can we at least sign Ryu? Even at 4 years, you can get him for like 70m-75m.. 60m/3 years if no one offers a 4th year. There is zero excuse not to land him....that's alot less than Wheeler.

Dumpster diving. So much for Price/Benintendi and officially no Joc. This sucks! Props to Moan4Yoan....he called it. He isn't a pessimist, he's just a realist -
Perhaps Hahn's reticence to include Vaughn and Madrigal as someone stated explains why we are forced to try and buy low on someone with upside who can hit righties well but has alot of flaws. If you don't have a lot of quality depth and you won't trade top tier prospects (and he shouldn't do so, I agree) this is all we can do outside of using payroll flexibility to absorb a bad contract as the means of compensation which they seem to be doing in talks with BOS for Benintendi. That's the only two ways to do it if you are in that position. Hopefully we will get something done that's decent.
