Yankees acquire Austin Slater for RHP Gage Ziehl
SoCalChiSox replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's not bad at all. Surprised we got a top 20. From pipeline: https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/yankees/ 18 Gage Ziehl RHP, Hudson Valley Renegades, A+ Yankees Top 30 BioStatsNewsVideo AGE 22 BATS R DOB 05/15/2003 THROWS R HT 6' 0" DRAFTED 2024, 4th (119) - NYY WT 223 ETA 2027 Scouting grades: Fastball: 50 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 55 | Overall: 40 A Cubs 11th-round pick in 2021 as a New York high schooler, Ziehl put his pro career on hold to attend Miami. He led the Hurricanes in appearances as a freshman, then became their best starter during the next two seasons. The Yankees began the 2024 Draft by selecting college pitchers with each of their first seven picks and signed him for $637,000 as their fourth-rounder. Ziehl's ability to command his fastball stands out more than its velocity and life, as it operates at 92-94 mph and reaches 96 with modest ride and run. He misses more bats with a sweeping mid-80s slider that grades as a plus pitch with two-plane depth at its best. He imparts fade and sink on a mid-80s changeup but has difficulty keeping it in the zone. At 6 feet and 223 pounds, Ziehl is compact but strong and durable. He's a tough competitor who repeats his high three-quarters delivery with ease, enabling him to locate his fastball and slide with precision. The Yankees have a history of helping pitchers upgrade their stuff, and doing so with Ziehl would raise his current ceiling of a No. 4 starter. -
Adrian Houser traded to TB for former top prospect Curtis Mead

I am almost certain if we trade Robert to PHI, Rincones will be in the return. -

"In particular, Houser is a great example. His market is strong with a few teams indicating serious interest, league sources said. But as of Tuesday afternoon, people with knowledge of the situation said nothing was close." -From today's article in the Athletic about the glacial pace of trades so far but expecting things to really ramp up the last 2 days. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6524101/2025/07/29/mlb-trade-deadline-market-slow/ I'm glad there is a decent market for him. There's no way in hell you risk starting him today. -

Ewing is having a great year. The problem is we're gonna only get one of these guys so we will need to make a difficult choice. I can see why they want 2 guys. -

Traditionally, the CF position doesn't lend itself to much slugging anyway, outside of superstars at the position, but often CFs can offer value on the basepaths or with high OBP or maybe a good contact. Here, this guy can't hit for avg and can't get on base either. He also has only 12 SBs in 77 games. The offensive profile is a total black hole. Just pick Clifford or Gilbert instead if you only get one real piece. If it's Clifford, you can sign any glove only CF in FA on a cheap 1-2 year deal, rather than trading Robert for it and at least those options aren't theoretical CFs, they are real ones. -

SoCalChiSox replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There has to be something else meaningful in there besides him. There has to be. You are trading for something purely theoretical. He's played all of 1 game there per FG. CF involves more than just speed, there's reads and jumps. There simply isn't enough film there to assess the viability of it. He has to be the second piece. -

This is what I don't understand about Acuna.....if they want an immediate CF replacement for Robert, why take an IFer and hope and pray his good defensive tools translate to the OF when even if it does you have no bat at all there. Just go with Gilbert instead who has alot more experience at the position and is OK there with a much better bat. Unless NYM is willing to give up Acuna PLUS a Top 10 prospect (Clifford?) which I doubt. -

Yeah I don't see any benefit to starting Houser tomorrow and Robert should be out too. -

But then you get into the Kimbrel situation where you are on the hook for a huge salary and teams will lessen the compensation considerably and then you are in a staredown throughout ST and the FO is praying he doesn't get hurt otherwise Jerry will read them the riot act for having to pay 20m for someone the FO likely promised him they would have been able to trade the prior year. -
Because we need something....anything new to talk about even if it's totally made up phony insider info, cause we're just rehashing the same stuff and same arguments in a circle over and over again.

I think it's interesting today that after we heard all about Vientos for awhile, Rosenthal is suggesting we've now shifted back to Top 10 prospects instead, which IMO is good. I dont know if NYM needs a bottom of rotation starter but maybe throw in Houser, eat half of Robert's money and try to get BOTH Gilbert and Clifford. Gilbert has really come on at the plate recently in AAA so call him up and evaluate his work in CF for the rest of the year. Clifford is tearing the cover off the ball in AA....bring him in, promote him to AAA and he will probably go wild in that park in Charlotte. Try to see if he can keep improving his hit tool to go with his mega savage power and let him compete in ST for the LF position. Worst case he is a big lefty masher at 1B or DH and can be a long term 4 hole player against RHP. I could see a future with high OBP Chase leading off (needs to get back to North of .350 OBP), Montgomery 2, one of Vargas/Teel/Quero 3 depending on matchup, Clifford 4, Braden 5. -

I think September 2026 might be more realistic for Braden. -

We almost certainly are bluffing if we are claiming we will exercise the option. -
Very excited for the NFL season and I have high expectations this year for the first time in awhile. Go Broncos!

Colson should be batting in the heart of the order. He's clearly the best hitter on the team. -
