Pal pretty much did too. He said Sox won't go to 4 years when in reality even that peolly won't be enough and we know JR isnt going to also assume the risk of a one sided opt out. Honestly the only way I see him coming here is if BOS also doesn't want to assume that risk and he ends up having to accept a bloated 1 yr deal for 22m+. I doubt it will get to that point. He will find a taker for 4-5 year deal with opt out. And Chicago has now pivoted already to addressing the need via the Kimbrel trade it seems. If they can get Bellinger for Kimbrel and taking Price's contract that would be great. Ofcourse, to make it work financially they'll need to unload Keuchel first. If you unload Kimbrel (16) and say 12 of Keuchels 18, that's 28 in savings. Bellinger and Price would be what somewhere around 40 added on? So a net add of 12? I don't know if JR will add that much more on a net basis.

Realistically no. If they work out an agreement for intl draft the pick goes away and they will agree because getting rid of that restriction is more valuable to union members than helping non union members.

They said might take a few days because of moving pieces so maybe we are moving Keuchel to create some room to lessen the blow of prices money. They'd have to eat prolly 6m of the 18m but they could move him and save 12m to help with price.

This team is very sensitive to criticism and know they got hammered the last several times they dealt with Preller. Can u imagine the PR nightmare that would ensue if we took their crap and they signed Conforto after Machado and after He Who Shall Not Ride Bikes. I'm confident that someone in the FO can see this hurricane coming.

Padres do nothing for our LH RF need. It also opens FO to severe PR blowback again if SD then signs Conforto after sending sending their high priced crap OF. They aren't going to deal with SD unless it's super favorable and it isnt super favorable

Yeah but now they have to save face and get something to show it wasn't a complete loss. Ofcourse, if the plan is to just keep the savings and not spend it, id rather keep Kimbrel here even if he sucks, just to spite ownership and the FO. I honestly cannot believe they are going to go into the season with the 1B clown show and Man of Glass in RF. I just am struggling to believe this is the plan. Even Joc would have been much better than this plan. I just have to assume that if they aren't going to meet Confortos demands, then a short term trade option is the plan, possibly with the prospects from the Kimbrel trade.
