  1. Would you trade for DeGrom? What if you got DeGrom-like performance at < 20% of the cost?
  2. Kopech hasn't thrown a pitch since early 2018.
  3. The only reason is would be for a 'an offer they can't refuse'
  4. Obviously one mans opinion but only time will tell.
  5. Burnes went down with an oblique strain late last season (one out away from qualifying for ERA title) at which time he ranked second among NL qualifiers at 2.5 fWAR, second with 13.4 strikeouts per nine innings, third with a .174 opponents’ average and third with a 2.11 ERA. Five pitches, elite velo and spin rate and everything down in the zone. He had a 5 game stretch where he was damn near unhittable and, despite starting 2020 working out of the pen, he finished 6th in CY voting. I'd make him the odds on favorite to win the CY in '21. It is highly unlikely Brewers consider trading him but, if you believe as I do that convincing them would go a long way toward making Sox not just AL favorites but WS favorites, the question is...what would a realistic trade package look like? I doubt Madrigal as headliner would be interesting to Brewers.
  6. Stiever is a WI kid and that might count for something. I just don't think Brewers would place much value on Madrigal as headliner. 2B is the one IF position where they have a decent player (Hiura). Cease might get their attention but I can see them insisting on Vaughn or Kopech to consider trading Burnes. The problem is they appear to be the de facto NL Central favorites despite their shortcomings, so less motivation to trade Burnes (but I'd love it).
  7. Can someone confirm the proposed roster size for 2021? Is it back to 25?
  8. From your lips to RHs ears. As much as I'd love it, I can't see Brewers trading him and am afraid there would be anarchy if the Sox were to offer the type of package the Brewers might entertain.
  9. I don't disagree but you can make the case that Burnes > Giolito. For comparison, what would it take for the Sox to consider trading Gio? The answer is a 'kings ransom'. I would not hesitate to include either Kopech or Vaughn (not both).
  10. Really love the chatter about potential starting pitchers. I am on record multiple times that the single most impactful SP target is Corbin Burnes of Brewers. He broke out in a big way last year and my Brewers buddies tell me he is better than Woodruff. I believe he is among the top 3 pitchers in the NL and will be among the top 5-6 in MLB for '21 and beyond. The Brewers would be unlikely to trade him unless they are overwhelmed with a value-offer but they have needs everywhere but RP. One or two SPs.... i.e. Cease+Steiver+Madrigal+ Heuer+Sheets (they need a 1B) would be a steep but reasonable price for Burnes. If successful, we 'd have arguably the best rotation in MLB and a lock down BP to go w/a Murderers Row lineup.
  11. True that but we would have Burnes at top of the rotation and that would make all the difference.
  12. Other than Brewers need help at several positions, I harbor no expectations re: Sheets and Mercedes general value and I agree Cease plus Madrigal wouldn't interest them. My point is to the extent we would consider bundling a number of players in pursuit of Gray, maybe there is a package we can assemble that appeals to Brewers. I am skeptical there is anything we can dangle to convince them to part with Burnes though.
  13. I'm okay trading those assets but probably not for Gray. If we are prepared to bundle a strong package of prospects for a starter, let's try to pry Corbin Burnes from the Brewers. Not sure how they would value Madrigal (they have Hiura at 2nd) but they need help pretty much everywhere else except RF (Yelich). Maybe swap out Madrigal with Cease and add Sheets and maybe Mercedes and we can get a conversation started with them.
  14. Went to bed last night hoping we sign Hendriks. Woke up this morning opposed to a 4 year deal. I'm actually opposed to anything longer than 2 years (w/option for 3) but realize 3 is the minimum where Hendriks is concerned. My concern stems from the cost/time commitment (I believe there are other areas we should focus/invest) as well as the plethora of young arms who, if given the chance, might turn out to be dudes. Guys like Burdi, Johnson, Heuer, Bummer, Foster, Marshall and maybe even Lopez. If we commit to 4 years of Hendriks or any addition, we might not ever find out if any of our current young guns can realize their potential. I'm for signing someone to a 2 year deal. Guessing Colome, Hand or Yates would go 2 years (or 1 w/option) and at far less AAV.
  15. Dunno...maybe, but also possible they sign closer to 6.5-7ish and Hendriks @14. Guessing Hand and Colome available on 1 yr deals (w/option and small buyout). I think I'd rather sign Hendriks but you can make a strong economic and performance case for 2 heads (arms) being better than 1.
  16. Devils advocate thinking but for approximately the same AAV and fewer years as Hendriks, it's feasable WS could sign both Colome and Hand for a super-pen w/LH and RH closers.
  17. Yep. Funny to go back around Oct. time frame and check out some of his many proclamations yet many here hang on his every guess.
  18. One way to improve the rotation w/o trading anyone.... 'Sugano won the Sawamura Award as Japan’s top pitcher in 2017 and 2018 and was 14-2 with a 1.97 ERA this past season. In his eight-year career, he has a 2.32 ERA'. Decision coming soon (maybe this week). Don't know what he would cost but apparantly the Giants and BlueJays are apparent front runners.
  19. Taking on Kimbrel's contract, along with Darvish' and Caratini' likely nonstarter for WS but might have tempted Cubs. In the end, I doubt there was much, if anything, WS could have offered to obtain Darvish and Caratini based upon their focus on young, tooled-up IF/OFs.
  20. Where did you pick up on this rumor? I would be shocked if Brewers are dangling Woodruff.
  21. Is this the first time you've ever read up on pitchers?
  22. Agree on Hader/Crochet comp. If you mean the Brewers by 'they', I doubt they would be very excited about it.
