  1. A better question to ask is why didn't he get a look this year?
  2. Mercedes might be at higher readiness level to DH at start of '21 than Vaughn. I'd certainly give him a chance.
  3. Would be very surprised if anyone goes 6 years and more surprised at $30/AAV. I think Bauer AAV will come in @$25M. Still a boatload.
  4. Love the notion of Brewers as trade partner and floated a version of this a month or so ago. I don't know if there is a scenarion where Brewers consider trading Yelich due to the PR repercussions but he would be a perfect fit. As to Woodruff, we would have to add another serviceable starter...someone like Stiever (WI kid) and even if we remove Yelich from the mix, its doubtful a Vaughn/Cease led package would excite them. Personally, I like Burnes as much or more than Woodruff and he'd be considerably less expensive.
  5. This framework but too light from our side. Maybe if we swap out Kelley for Cease.
  6. Of course Dahl is injury prone. If not, he would be unavailable...especially at $2.4M. The question is can he avoid injury, especially in a platoon situation? If yes...he's our guy.
  7. Dahl...platooned w/Engel. Less expensive and high upside.
  8. David Dahl non-tendered by the Rockies would be well worth the $2.5 ish 'show me' deal as platoon partner w/Engel.. He is a LH hitting bomber who was an All-Star in 2019, 26 yrs old and injury prone but the real deal if/when healthy.
  9. This is shocking...not. Two weeks ago the majority on this board swallowed every rumor this guy (and his aliases) posted as though he actually had inside intel.
  10. Wouldn't count on Abreu departing WS when current contract is up. He could be in the picture for several more years.
  11. My take...1) 50/50 chance re: Bauer...just don't see too much competition at $25M plus. 2) Less sanguine on Springer, mostly because it feels like he will sign soon and I can't see JR being an early mover on big FA signing. Too much Covid/revenue uncertainty. 3) Can't see Pederson leaving the west coast for the southside. My sense is we'll find a strong side complement to Engel through waiver or trade vs. pay someone like JBJ $10M ish (would love Tauchman from NYY). 4) If no Bauer, my guuess is Lynn trade. In addition to Lynn, would love to get Darvish but Cubs still need to field a team, including a full rotation which will be further depleted if Lester moves on.
  12. Posted this at 1:30 today. Hmmmm...maybe my Spidy senses are correct. Bauer - w/Yankees out of the picture and Mets a big question mark, I don't see too many teams lining up to throw @$30M/AAV at him. Dodgers don't need him and Boston seems unlikely. It wouldn't shock me if WS quietly got something done here.
  13. To clarify, you trade what you are comfortable with for his contracted services for '21. If he adds value and it makes sense to extend him, WS will be well positioned. No one is advocating paying in advance for team control but we shouldn't assume he has to be one and done.
  14. Jake Arietta, Rich Hill, Cole Hamels anyone? All FAs, all likely to sign for < $5M.
  15. Blue Jays and Braves maybe due to publicly traded corporate parents but I think Braves are set and that kind of move isn't their style. Padres...maybe, but they're carrying some hefty commitments already although it might make sense w/Clevenger out.

  17. Its not written in the Bible Lynn can't be extended.
  18. You are conflating current pandemic driven market-dynamics with the law of supply and demand. To the extent businesses in general and professional sports teams specifically fail to put forth an interesting product, we are not obligated to consume it, nor do we have the right to demand access to their financial records any more than you have the right to review your landscapers books.
  19. Thanks but not usually? We should all be grateful for Steve Cohen's acquisition of the Mets for instilling hope (perhaps falsely) that teams will spend in order to keep pace with an expectation that Cohen's deep pockets will drive the talent market. My sense is that if not for his presence, expectations of any vibrancy in the FA market would be tempered by a 'wait and see' approach from ownership.
