Speculation is both Stroman and Gausman will accept QOs then seek to negotiate multi-year deals a la Abreu. If this happens, we pin our hopes on signing Bauer (who knows, it could happen). If we miss out on those 3, who do we pursue who can help lead us to the promised land, ideally in 2021? For me, we will need to make a trade(s). Since everyone needs pitching, we might need to overpay. There are possibly 5-8 pitchers who MIGHT be available in trade who can slot in as #2-3 types (if you concede Giolito #1). I'd be interested in who this board believes should be dangled to clubs as trade bait?

Guys...just using Eloy is a proxy for fair value (79). You do not get Marquez for Cease, Kopech or Vaughn nor any 2 of the 3.
-
You should stop making uninformed comments
-
Per BB Trade Values....Marquez surplus value 135/Jimenez surplus value 79
-
Not sure if this is serious question but doubt you can get Marquez for combo of Cease AND Eloy.
-
Doubt Stroman will be available. I think the way to solve for SP is by trade. Darvish?
-
Apples and oranges. You are talking about giving up the 52 pick to pay Stroman or Gausman. I think they will take the QO so probably not relevant anyway. If you don't sign Bauer, who do you sign to take us to the next level?
-
Don't understand the Stroman love...especially w/QO pick. Try to sign Bauer but target trade candidates (Musgrove, Burnes, Marco Gonzales, maybe one of Atlantas young guns, etc.) and pull the trigger.
-
You really think so?
-
I'm not advocating for Hader but the notion that we can trade for a high rotation piece without trading any of our controlled assets seems unlikely.
-
Probably so but who do we have that will bring us back a difference making starter?
-
What is not realistic is to believe we will be better in 21 without improving our rotation. It could be we have internal candidates but most here believe we will need to go outside, either through FA or by trade. Gausman, Stroman and Bauer are unlikely. So the question becomes, who do we atrget and who are we prepared to trade? I'm guessing you must have a point of view as to what is realistic based on your post.

The idea of Eloy a headliner is more palatable when considering Yelich in the mix (which I agree is unlikely), that said, I believe the only way we add a high-quality starter for 2021 is through trade. Eloy is our best trade chit and Milwaukee has several attractive targets.
-
Like I said, Brewers only entertain it for financial reasons but I agree its highly unlikely.
-
Headlined by Eloy, not Cease.
-
I don't disagree but he had a bad year and Brewers might need to offload his contract. It was massive but AAV is @24M which, relatively speaking, is a bargain.
-
Yelich is a LH hitter who, when right, is in same class as Betts. He can also play either corner and some CF. Eloy is one-dimensional and best suited as DH...a position we have depth. We would likely need to pursue another Of'er (love Tauchman w/NYY) to platoon w/Engle. I like Eloy but I view him as our most realistic trade chit (Robert, Moncada, Anderson, Abreu, Grandal are going nowhere). I doubt we'll attract Bauer and I'm meh on the other FA pitchers, especially with draft compensation attached.

Milwaukee isn't moving Woodruff. They might be persuaded to move Burnes (who I like better than Woodruff) but I think it would take more than Vaughn and Cease (maybe throw in Stiever...local kid). I really like Milwaukee as a trade partner for WS. I especially like targeting Yelich AND Burnes in blockbuster. I would be willing to dangle Eloy (but not Vaughn) along with Cease, Stiever, Collins and Sheets/Rutherford. Brewers willingness depends on their financial situation but Burnes and Yelich would put us over the top.
-
Brewers don't need 2B (have Hiura) but have needs across the IF and OF, especially after letting Gyorko and Braun go. Cease and Collins make sense but probably a bit light...maybe add Sheets and Stiever (WI kid) and they'd entertain it.
-
Anyone think Brewers would entertain moving Yelich? Arguably top 3 in MLB prior to last season. Wonder if their financial situation warrants trying to move his contract?
-
I know others disagree but I view TLR presence as positive as relates to FA signings. I can see him insisting on Bauer or ? and JR capitulating. Certainly improves chance of JR stepping up and, if not for COVID, I think we would go aggressively after several targets....we might anyway.
-
I'd be shocked if Bauer AAV is 22.5 but such is the market w/COVID. Need someone (Mets/Realmuto?) to stoke the hot stove with an aggressive signing and see if other teams jump in.

Love it! Great excel work also.
