SD, with Yates and now Pomeranz out really need BP help and a catcher. I'd rather keep Bummer and maybe dangle Colome plus McCann in exchange for a couple of their minor league assets like Head and Santana. Also, Luchessi might be an interesting get.
-
would love to see Brantley in RF
-
Both SD and TB are rich in ML talent, are PO-bound and need upgrades at catcher. Yankees (Sanchez isn't the answer) might also be in the market. McCann has strong trade value. Maybe a combo to include Rodon and/or Lopez would generate an interesting return.

He's gonna be a folk hero in Chgo. Just the kind of guy you want to root for.

Should make for interesting decisions with McCann and Colome if Sox are in the PO hunt. I believe both have trade value and are unlikely to be here next year.

8.8.20 GT | Clevelanders @ White Sox | 1:10PM CT

Sox lineup appears easy for pitchers to navigate through. We get behind in the count and chase low and away. On the bright side, good stuff by Foster, Hamilton and Burdi...three guys who are easy to pull for. They all threw gas, especially Burdi. -
Eloy Jimenez Up for Challenge to Improve on D
Flash replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Couldn't agree more on his liability in the field. Question is whether the bat warrants DH only (vs. possible trade bait). Assuming defensively challenged players should/could be moved to 1B badly underestimates the importance of having a good glove at the position. Watch Rizzo, Votto, Hosmer, Goldschmidt and the rookie on Seattle, White, play 1B and see how many errant throws and short hoppers they dig out that translate into runs saved. We're sensitized to bad 1B play and assume the position lacks importance. I can see know way Eloy would be anything but a liability at 1B...even more so than OF. -
Didn't look like his momentum carried him into the netting. Looked like he went in on purpose and then decided to play a while.

I believe he qualified his comment...'defensive' 3rd baseman. -
While yesterdays win was among the most satisfying of recent memory for me, todays game should be an indicator of how this team measures up. Need a big outing from Cease to show he can be counted on...especially with uncertainty re: Lopez.

I like it

We'll see soon enough

Respectfully disagree. A pennant is a pennant and if a team feels they are a cather or RH power bat away, McCann will be in play and command a decent return. This of course assumes reasonable risk of finishing the season. Obviously no one will pursue a rental if it looks like season will be ended.
-
Would depend on what point of the season and a teams' playoff chances. Obviously if it looks as though the season is at risk, there will be no rental player activity.
-
Eloy plays OF like a natural DH. The problem is we have 3 natural DHs in regular lineup (Abreu, EE, Eloy). Our pitching staff will have enough trouble getting outs and can use all the defensive help they can get. Throw in Anderson and, while fun to watch at the plate, this team would be no fun to pitch for. Mazara not really a GG RFr either.
-
I know its early but if at some point we decide to punt on this season, I believe there are several teams who would offer a 45-45+ talent for McCann. Notwithstanding injuries that might occur, a team like the Padres appear to be a fit and they have 4-5 interesting MI prospects in their minor league system. Similarly, McCann would be an upgrade for TB who also have several interesting MLrs, including Shane Baz and Shane McClanahan. Personally, I'd try to resign McCann but if unable to, there should be real trade value there.
-
Bad look for Eloy. Barely touched the wall and laid there until trainer came out then leaves game next inning. Worst part is ball was catchable if he wasn't such a defensive dork.
-
Does anyone anticipate any trade activity this season? Particularly in the early days? A team like the Giants looks to be in need of a ML ready catcher. Teams like the Red Sox appear to be in need of starting pitching.
-
Except we didn't save the half million. He signed full slot.
-
Am I the only one surprised Crochet received full slot? I believe a case could have been made that he might slide quite a few picks if not grabbed by Sox at 11. If we could have saved $500K and sprung for the 5% overage, it seems we could have secured a quality MI at 3 (Casy Martin?) Not complaining but just a bit miffed.
-
Figuring out the right thing to do is impossible. There is a difference between testing positive and being sick. There are also different permutations/degrees of sickness and wide variables relating to transmission activity/risks. I agree with the leagues viewpoint that positive tests are to be expected but the show will go on. If, as a result, MLB can model a framework that other spectator sports can follow, we all have reason to be optimistic.

FS: White Sox select prep RHP Jared Kelley with 47th pick, signed
Flash replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Has it been announced that Crochet received slot value? -
Stipulating 2020 draft choices are not eligible to be traded but, in the interest of entertainment, lets say we make an offer to Cubs for Ed Howard. Would you consider sending Cease in exchange for Howard and Ian Happ?
-
Has anyone read any commentary on WS draft? Any of the pubs opine on picks? Any mention among Winners/Losers?

Horn isn't a throw away. He looks solid. I really like what we did. Going into Day 1 there is no way anyone (well maybe Kiley) expected us to emerge with Crotchet AND Kelley. The only thing that will possibly dampen my enthusiasm is if we find out we paid Crotchet slot or more (I doubt it). That means we could have signed Abel, who I preferred, although the system is lacking in fireballing LHrs so there's that.
