Trade Chits...guessing we would consider parting with Lopez, Colome, Fulmer, Fry and maybe Rodon along with any minor leaguers not named Robert, Vaughn or Madrigal. That said, is there a package we could assemble to entice Pirates to send us Marte and Archer? Or maybe Rox send Gray and Dahl?
-
Didi has a similar profile to LeMahieu and hits from the left side. He can play anywhere in the IF and will hit 25 HRs at GRF w/800ish OPS. He was hurt for most of last year and only had 300 ABs. Personally, I'd love it if he could play 1B but he would be handy to have around at a number of positions and, while TA had a big year with the bat, I wouldn't concede SS to him w/Gregorius onboard. In fact, as has been posited here in the past, TA might be better suited for OF.

Then exchange Collins with someone the Yankees will accept. The idea is to land Tauchman and put him in RF for the next 4 years instead of seeking 1 yr. placeholders in the belief that one of our youngsters will emerge. Taking on the 1yr remainder of Happs contract as the price of poker is not the worst thing in the world since he will likely be a 4-5 starter and toss 150 + innings.
-
The idea would be to land Tauchman. Thats the only reason to take on Happs salary (or most of it). The exact WS pieces are fungible but after Sanchez, Yankees are thin (Romine FA?) at catcher and 1B is unclear now that EE non-tendered and Bird out of the picture. Collins might be very attractive to them.
-
Yankees might be interested in freeing up payroll to pursue Cole. Happ will be 37 and owed $17m for 2020 but would fit the back-end of WS rotation. If desire to move him compels them to throw in Tauchman (Chgo kid who hits from left side w/pop and excels at any OF spot) for say Fulmer and Collins, we'd nicely solve two areas of need, although my guess is Tauchman figures in NYY plans next year and beyond.

couldnt agree more

Spitballing that Sox will add $50M for '20 payroll - I think Sox should seek a short term solution for RF until we know what we have with the many minor league candidates in the system. By short term, I mean Joc Pederson. Trade for him, pay him for 2020 (@$10M) and hope one or more of Walker, Rutherford, Basabe, Gonzalez, Adolfo steps up while Joc is hitting 40 bombs. If the youngsters fail to impress and/or Joc proves too valuable to lose to FA, sign him to a multi-year deal or at least make him a QO. I'd be inclined to keep BOTH Leury and Engle. Both can platoon vs. LH pitching and fill in OF until Robert arrives or late inning defensive sub plus Leury can provide IF support. Non-tender Sanchez in favor of Mendick and save a little coin. In addition to Pederson, I'd go aggressively after Cole and Wheeler (I doubt Nats let Stras get away). I'm also skeptical we can attract Cole and hope we don't get into a prolonged auction process for him while someone slips in and locks up Wheeler. It would be disappointing if we don't land a stud pitcher this winter. Assuming Wheeler @$20M, plus $10M for Joc, leaves @$20M to play with (Grandal?) or SP. For me, that would be both a realistic and successful offseason.

Yankees have some high class roster problems and a host of talented guys who have missed considerable time for one reason or other. Guys to keep an eye on are Frazier, Bird and Andujar. I really love the idea of Tauschman (Chgo. kid) but doubt he can be pried away.
-
Doubtful Gregorius gets a QO. If he does, hard no.
-
I'm for trying to sign Gregorius. Hurt most of 2019 but avg. > 20HRs and 80RBIs over each of 3 prior years while anchoring Yankee defense. He hits from left side and Yankees used him throughout their lineup, from LO to #9. He would be an upgrade at SS but if TAs feelings would be hurt, Didi can DH and likely play 2nd as needed. My guess is he could quickly pick up 1B as well. To me, he seems like an excellent addition, as I have voiced before. Guessing 2 yrs. at $14/per w/option for year 3.
-
Gotta solve RF by trade. Plenty of candidates ...Dahl, Tauschman, Happ, Nimmo, Frazier, JBJ, and personal fave, Pederson. Go get 'em Rick.
-
DH and MI support. Hell, give him a 1B glove.
-
My preference would be to trade for Pederson. I know he's a rental but that might work and can always try to extend him, invariably at a lower AAV than JDM. Also, go get Grandal. Engel or Leury as 4th OF. If Grandal can't be signed, someone like Gregorius would bring value (guessing $14M/2years + option). Give Abreu qualifier (@$17M). At this point, focus on pitching.
-
I'm a fan of JDM but don't see the appeal for Sox. He seems redundant with Abreu and Jimenez. Get that he could mentor the youngsters but would prefer a LH bat for lineup balance and flexibility.
-
Love the idea of Grandal and Wheeler as our 'expensive' additions. As a trade acquisition, wonder if Yankees would consider moving Mike Trauchman - .277/.361/.504 with 13 home runs and six stolen bases across 87 games and strong glove displayed at all 3 OF positions. Cheap and under team control for 5 yrs. Born in Palatine and attended Bradley. Hits from left side. Yankees have some roster moves to make and seek pitching (Lopez?). Also, Gregorius likely to be available. Could be LH DH with middle infield capability.
-
Wouldn't get my hopes up on Strasburg. Guessing Nats will tak a few years on with a nice bump in AAV. Doubt they will let him walk, especially given WS money and likely loss of Rendon. Wheeler is the target.
-
Yes. I stand corrected. Roster Resource cut off at 2025. Now I'm less interested.
-
Serious. At a $60M discount over next 6 years would put Stanton at $20M per. I'd do it if Yankees weren't seeking too much in return.
-
File this one under hear-say but a reliable source connected to Yankees told me they plan to move on from Gregorius and, unsurprisingly, plan to aggressively shop Stanton. He mentioned Yankees are prepared to eat 'at least' $60M of Stantons remaining contract and said Dodgers might bite. Moreover, he feels Yankees will definitely be players for Cole. At the right price, would love to see Stanton in RF/DH for Sox.

Agreed. Nicely formatted

Look to the Mets.....what about Mets send package of Cano and Nimmo and we sign Wheeler. Cano has 4 more years at $24/per against which Mariners pay $3.75/per. Cano solves for LH DH and can play a capable 2nd base until Madrigal arrives. Gotta believe Mets would pay down a portion of his salary (i.e. $5/yr.). So, we have Cano (assuming no trade clause can be worked out) for @$15/per through 2023. Nimmo in RF. No idea what we would have to part with but imagine it would be manageable.

Who do you think the suitors might be? Houston? Angels? Yankees? Dodgers?
-
Guessing it been asked or posited earlier but at risk of being repetitive, does anyone have an idea of contract terms (years and AAV) it would take to nab Cole? Would 6yrs/$35M be in the range?
