  1. Please direct me to 'the amount of information we have' that leads you to make such a claim? Anything in his past performance that you can point out? Minor league career?
  2. 1st para: Your first two sentences are complete oversimplifications and your 3rd is unfounded conjecture and at this point, ridiculous. 2nd para: You make a broad generalization on asset management as if your opinion reflects the only way to build a winning roster. 3rd: You can hold up Moncada as something he's not until his value falls below zero but lobbing insults from behind a firewall is weak
  3. My question pertained to his trade value. You have no way of determining what makes 'baseball sense' without knowing the return. By the way, I can come up with multiple trade scenarios that make perfect baseball sense.
  4. Not sure I follow. Are you saying its okay to discuss trade scenarios involving Jose, Avi and even Rodon but Moncada is off limits? Or...are you saying I should 'read the room' before posting lest I offend people by inquiring if Moncada has trade value?
  5. It is a perfectly legitimate question. We are in trade season, we drafted our 2B of the future and in Moncada, we have a recent #1 prospect who, in spite of his performance, might hold interest to certain teams. Are you saying that not only trading him, but even mentioning the possibility of a trade is too inciteful for this board?
  6. Probably crazy talk but what if we trade with Cardinals for Fowler and one of their young catchers. Cards would pay a portion of Fowlers contract in order to move him (I still think he can contribute but desperately needs change of scenery). Would love to obtain Knizner (C) as part of the deal. We should have plenty of trade capital to offer and get experienced short-term CF along with catcher of future.
  7. Serious question (although hypothetical)...Lux for Moncada? Who would say no?
  8. My question was how he might be valued. What could he bring back in trade now, regardless of how we see his value?
  9. Curious what trade value Moncada might have. How would opposing GMs view his value? Could he bring back a 55 FV SS or 3B prospect?
  10. Don't see why not Jack. To me, FG is being overly critical. Cease compares favorably across almost any/every metric to the names mentioned and the many in front of him on their list. Don't understand it.
  11. Not sure what FG is thinking but based on peripherals as well as pure stuff, one can easily make the case that Cease is the TOP pitching prospect in all milb.
  12. I'm less concerned about Moncada than Anderson. I just don't see him as a SS on a championship team unless he is surrounded by positional all-stars. I'm more worried Hahn/mgnt. might feel that given the long-term contractual commitment to Anderson he is the SS of the future and as such, neglect seeking a real MLB SS and/or accellerate the development path of Laz and Sosa.
  13. Wish I could be more optimistic but I see these trends continuing, which is why its a bit disappointing we were relatively quiet at deadline. Pirates have an abundance of middle infeilders in high minors. Anderson and Moncada can't be the answers.
  14. I agree the Sox have potential rotation pieces but I'm not too sanguine about Giolito or Lopez...hope I'm wrong. For me the bigger question mark is IF. Just not sold on Anderson or even Moncada for that matter. Plus the corners (Yolmer and Abreu) are not too inspring either.
  15. Looking ahead, can see Basabe in OF leading off in front of Madrigal. Would have Eloy bat 3rd and DH. Assuming, Roberts earns one OF spot, it would be between Gonalez or Rutherford for the other, at least at this point although there are endless permutations given our minor league outfield talent pool.
  16. Love Bryce. Great signing.
  17. If Shields holds his own tonight and Soria impresses, they might want to find an apartment in Seattle while they are there. Seattle could use them both and packaging them might yield someone of value.
  18. When you go around the horn of the elite teams in the AL (Houston, Boston, Yankees and to a lesser extent the Indians) and compare each positional player vs. what the White Sox send out, you get a sense for the talent gap. We still need high potential players who can close those gaps. Given our lack of trade chips, I would like to see us take on a bad contract or two if it helps land more young talent. I'm guessing the Cardinals might love to move Fowler and Yankees still have Ellsbury who clutters up their payroll. What if we took on one of these guys along with a young prospect or two. Knizner (C. on Cardinals) and, or Sheffield (LH P. Yankees) would be nice gets.
  19. Doubt much of a market but one team Abreu would provide a big upgrade to is Seattle. Ryon Healy can't be the answer as Ms navigate their playoff course. Seattle lacks minor league assets but Evan White, LH (T) 1B is regarded as great with the leather and, IMHO a lefty 1B who can play serious defense would go a long way toward stabilizing a very young IF. Seattle also has ex-Cub Vogelbach and other pieces to assemble if talks develop.
  20. I rank LuGo just behind Eloy and on par w/Roberts as a prospect. True CF with elite bat control and some pop from left side. Much better at this juncture than Rutherford or Adolfo IMHO.
  21. Not for nothing but Seth Beer crushing in Short Season A...already 4 HRs and 1300OPS. Groshans really lighting things up and Kelenic off to good start in small sample size.
  22. The FO has much to be blamed for but taking Moncada and Kopech (plus Basabe and Diaz) is not one of them. At the time of the trade, every major rating service considered Moncada a top 3, if not the best prospect in baseball. Kopech was on the ascent as a fireballer with TOR potential. They might both end up disappointing but, at the time, it looked like more than a fair trade.
