  1. Wait till Timmy gets on the mound
  2. Yes they will be much harder to beat , France were my pre-tournament tip , I like Uruguay and it's a pity they have to meet so soon . Portugal were unlucky to meet Uruguay (all because of that crazy Iranian penalty ) but they really would be nowhere without Ronaldo and were never going to win the WC so although I'm sad Ronaldo is gone the better team move on . Messi just doesn't seem the same player in an Argentine shirt , the weight of a nation is on his shoulders , their biggest mistake was not playing Aguerro for the full 90 minutes in every game , he is one of the greatest goal scorers ever.
  3. France got a wake up call when trailing 1-2 to Argentina the 19 year old Mbappe (second most expensive player transfer in the world) sprang into action and ran the show. Close 4-3 but the French won easy , far too athletic for Argentina .
  4. Sweep this series I reckon , I'll catch the Sunday game live
  5. Rest day , I've got WC withdrawal symptoms
  6. Not a lot more than they can do then really , I believe the schools are playing more soccer , the leagues are increasing , just got to catch up with the other three major team sports.
  7. The old big name players coming from outside are purely to increase attendances , to move the MLS forward and get international interest they must apply for inclusion in the Copa Libertadores or whatever the top Mexican / Central american club sides compete in . The European leagues are all geared to getting into the following years European Champions League. The MLS winner/runners-up competing outside the MLS in a Champions League equivalent * would be a huge boost to the game in the States and surely attract younger players from around the world. * I'm presuming this is not the case at the moment ?
  8. I think the fair play idea is better than that , I’m trying to come up with something else they could do , if they were playing each other then a penalty shootout but as in Senegal , Japan ? Before penalty shootouts in European cup matches the captains were called to the centre and the referee flipped a blue/red disc , I read about a Celtic v Benfica semi final were both teams won at home 3-0 , the Scots went through on the flip.
  9. There is no media coverage at all , its not a case of caring we are just oblivious of the MLS , time zones don't help . There will no doubt be a few bulletins about Rooney as we had with David Beckham .
  10. Not at all , it's in the blood , it no longer need happen as the TV money has made all the Prem teams rich these last couple of years. Now players move for a bigger wage and are pushed by their agents who get an obscene cut , Pogba's agent got 40 million plus .
  11. Can't remember what they did in the previous WCs , unless its never been needed before .
  12. On his way to join DC United , no where near the player he was , the football brain is still there , the body isn't unfortunately . Wayne played for my club Everton , at 16 the street footballing kid was released onto the Premier League pitches and proceeded to terrorise defences , we had never seen anything like it , he reminded me of the young Mike Tyson , rough , tough and super talented . At the 2004 Euro Championships Rooney now 18 was sensational but he was callously nobbled and with it England's chance of winning. After the tournament Everton agreed to a huge fee from Man Utd , very disappointing but inevitable. Wayne Rooney has had awful press in his career , a lot justified , you can take the kid out of the ghetto kid you can't always take the ghetto out of the kid, but he went on to be Man Utd and England's all time goalscorer a great achievement as he hardly played as a striker , he won everything in club football. He may have played for Manchester Utd but he was still an Everton supporter , his kids were brought up as Evertonians and his return to Everton last season should have been a two or three year swansong but the club was in turmoil and it wasn't to be. So go west Wayne and give 'em what you got left , all the best.
  13. Good Morning Chicago! 6-1 sounds like it was a breeze . Beautiful morning here (again) we are having a heatwave , 80’s and the country is shimmering to a halt .
  14. Always brilliant to see a winning result first thing in the morning.
  15. Iranian penalty , total joke , referee lost the plot .
  16. The hosts ran into a proper team today , going down 3-0 to Uruguay .
  17. Double figure runs , great stuff. Btw anyone know who the guy in the yellow M & Ms jacket behind the plate is ?
  18. No , if he'd have pitched the 9th and the game was won would he have got a lot better stats ?
