My issues with Ricky never had anything to do with the White Sox losing record. The White Sox winning would also do nothing to prove Ricky is a good manager. Bad managers can't make good teams bad, and good managers can't make bad teams good.

Cease is projected to be woth 2 fWAR next year and .3 the rest of the way this year. Putting his PV at 3.22 fWAR at a cost under 2 million. .62 million per fWAR. Obviously we need to give greater weight to the 7 fWAR over the 3, but the value in their deals aren't that far off. The major difference is while Cease has 3.22 fWAR in PV, and Lynn has 7, Cease has roughly +9 addition fWAR in FV. Putting his entire deal at 12.22 fWAR compared to Lynn's 7. Even with the emphasis on PV, there isn't enough value difference between the two to warrant even a straight up swap IMO.
You are acting as if projections are facts. When it comes to a player who has established himself and what he can do then I can understand giving some emphasis to projections but when it comes to a young guy, especially a starter, projections don't mean anything. What was Giolito's projections after 2018? Cease is our best arm and he is only going to keep getting better.

EE has looked horrid and the only other real option is Collins, who probably does not belong in a starting role long term.
Nonsense, Yermin would do better than all of them.

I looked up his minor league numbers and he wasn't even good in any of the higher levels. I am not sure he even deserved to make it to the majors let alone get so many chances.

GleybEr.
Not to be confused with Brusdar Graterol on LAD.
I wasn't sure if it was Gleyber or Gleybar but since another user in this thread spelled it "Gleybar" I figured that was the correct way. I won't take spelling lessons from soxtalk users anymore.

I never understand why most people defend the Chapman trade. Why do people assume the Cubs couldn't win the WS without him when they were already the best team in baseball before they got him. Even more stupid is the fact that he blew 3 saves during the playoffs yet people think he was essential just because he pitched some scoreless innings. Chapmans performance could have easily been replicated by other bullpen arms they had. Chapman rental was not worth trading away the career of someone like Gleybar Torres.

No question that Yermin is a much better hitter than either of them.
Would have had at minimum 8 homers by now if he was playing.

EE has a proven track record and I would stick with him. With the expanded rosters, I would like to see a strict platoon in RF. I remember threads like this about Jermaine Dye in 2005. He was batting below .200 until 40 games into the season. Of course there were also threads like this about Dunn, LaRoche, etc...
EE is 37 and not going to hit 30 home runs forever.

I can tolerate Mazara but I wanted to see Yermin as DH this year and still do. Imagine this line up with a productive DH. They will be unstoppable.

Any chance we see him up? EE has been garbage. It's possible father time has caught up to him. Do the Sox go with Collins/Yermin/Grandal the rest of the season?
It's very possible Vaughn is already a better hitter than Collins and Yerm. If the Sox are competitive by the end of the season, do they call up Vaughn or play the service time game? I selfishly want to see him play.
Yermin would lead the team in homers if we was up at the start.

Who needs Tatis when you can draft a slap hitter like Madrigal?
What the hell does Madrigal have to do with anything?

After today this deserves a bump. The more time goes on the worse it looks.

There's more to good at bats than drawing walks; Anderson knows how to hit and isn't an overly aggressive free swinger.
If he isn't drawing walks then he needs to hit around .330 to have an OBP worthy of lead off.

Yeah, we were promised a slightly lesser Manny Ramirez or Miguel Cabrera in terms of hitting impact.
That's at least an 875-925 guy in this day and age, but I'd argue 900-950ish.
It doesn't matter what we were promised because he hasn't even played a full season of games yet.

Not sure he's even going to do that. Maybe .245-.265 with 35+ bombs and a few walks here and there.
What makes you think Eloy doesn't have the potential to be an elite hitter? So far he has had about a year of major league experience. He raked the final month last year, started hot this season, went into a brief slump but then started hitting the ball hard again in Detroit, had a bad game against the Cardinals and now we are giving up on his potential?

Eloy is, imo, never going to be a high average guy. He'll slug a ton and that's plenty. Moncada has scuffled but like you said, he's probably exhausted. I was never sold on Giolito as a true #1. I hope I'm wrong
Eloy has always projected to be a high average hitter and he did so in the minors.

Is it too early to call Eloy a bust?
You people are delusional. He has already shown that his hit tool is there. A bad game or stretch of games is not a representation of his future.

At some point we need to get over this. We included a powerball ticket in a birthday card and it turned out to be the $100 million ticket. Does that make us the biggest idiots ever or really really really unlucky? In retrospect it was a horrible decision but at the time Tatis wasn't in the top 150 players in the Sox organization and if we had thrown in Luis Curbelo instead (18 year old SS, #7 in our top prospects list in mid year 2016) we would have been OUTRAGED at the huge overpay for Shields and today we would say we got nothing for nothing. Instead...we put a $1 piece of paper that was almost certainly going to be worthless into the birthday card and now we continually lose our minds at the weird randomness of the world.
Well the Padres obviously saw something because they wanted him as their lottery ticket.

I was waiting for someone to say this, but this times 100. On almost any other team in baseball, Tatis would not even be in the big leagues yet. The fact that people are calling it the worst trade in baseball is a joke for a couple reasons:
1. Tatis had not played a single game since signing as the 30th best international prospect in baseball for under 1 million dollars - nothing had changed, and every team in baseball missed on Tatis but for the Sox who then in turn swung and missed lol.
Your first point is irrelevant. It is not about whether or not it was the worst trade when it happened in 2016. It is about looking at it now in hindsight and seeing we traded what could be the best player in baseball for James Shields.
-
The question is would he be this good if the White Sox kept him, especially this early in his career?

I heard so much about our hitting but we suck. I am tired of Leury Garcia.......we will never win if he's playing every game. I'm tired of Renteria and the clown act. I do not want to hear for the rest of the year how we are A good hitting team. We have no plate discipline
Leury is literally ranked 2nd on the team in WAR behind Robert. It seems strange that out of all the players to lash out against you choose him.

Timing of glove squeeze+being in the heel.
That's just bad luck, same with the Canseco domeshot.
Eloy's gaffe was legit awfulness.
What makes their's "bad luck" but Eloys "legit awfulness". Having the ball hit your glove or head and bounce over the wall is not bad luck, it is a misplayed ball that results in an error. There are endless examples of plays like Eloy's where a ball is misread or drifts and drops. The only reason Eloys may be considered worse is because it resulted in an inside the park home run.

Eloly Jimenez was more comfortable in RF. He struggles in LF and resembles a kamikaze.
Why don't they switch him then?
