  1. Disagree, and I'll tell you why. Garcia's now playing short in Anderson's place so that solves the shortage of infielders problem. For the starting pitchers situation, send down one of the many minor league level relievers we currently have up here and call up a starter. Like Cease maybe? When Castillo comes off the IL, Collins goes back down. Certainly don't need 3 catchers.
  2. With Anderson on the IL, which means Garcia is going to play short for the time being, it's time to bring Palka back up. Jay will play center and Palka right. There is no other choice or option. The guy hit 27 homers last year, and though he did begin the year in a miserable slump, he's now hitting .274 with an OBP of .370 with 16 homers in only 257 plate appearances. They can't give any excuse to not bring him up. It's the only option.
  3. You believe he'll pitch a shutout? I certainly hope he does.....but based on how he's pitched in his career, I'd say the chances are much higher he'll get his brains beat in.
  4. OK, I admit I didn't know that. So have this guy make this one start today, then send him down and bring Cease up then
  5. What is this?? I know we are going through a rebuild and we have to be patient......but with Covey going on the IL, I think it is time to bring Cease up. He's 23. He's not a baby. So we have to wait until he's 24 before we bring him up? Yes, he might very well get hit around when he first comes up, but let him get some experience with that THIS year, so next year he might be ready to be a solid major league starter. Because next year it's time to start contending. If they don't bring him up this year are we going to have to hear the "he's just getting his feet wet" next year? That should be happening now. So instead they just pick up garbage off the streets that 4 teams have already given up on in 5 years and stick them on a major league mound? Sorry, this one is in-excusable. And I don't want to hear he'll come up later in the year. What's to wait? So June is too early but August is OK?
  6. Yeah, I think you're right. I'm just saying he should be sent down. I said the same thing about Giolito last year.
  7. I sincerely think that after his outing last night, Reynoldo Lopez needs to be sent down. Except for the big strikeout game he had against Detroit, he's had no command of anything he throws all year. He literally has looked like he has no idea where any of his pitches are going. It doesn't seem to be an issue that he's nibbling because he doesn't trust his stuff. Since it is a location issue, it's probably mechanic. So has Cooper discovered anything wrong in his delivery? If not why not? Or if he has and Lopez isn't listening, is he uncoachable? Now I guess the main question would be, if they send him down who do they replace him with? Is it too early to bring up Cease? Or is it simply they have no one better to bring up? But truth be told, with the command he's had of his pitches all year, he doesn't belong up here.
  8. Just heard Farmer say on the White Sox broadcast today that they don't want to promote Jimenez because they don't want him to have to play at, and be promoted to, 3 levels in one season. What kind of bull$%&^ is that?? They have no problem doing that with Jose Ruiz. I heard they're bringing him up, and that's his 3rd level this year. We all know the REAL reason he's not being brought up. And it actually is a pretty crummy reason. Don't think it's the worlds greatest idea to alienate your most prized young player this player this way.
  9. What makes a great closer is someone who has something about them that stands out as unhittable. Rivera's cutter, Hoffman's change up, Fingers's slider, Eckersley's control, and MANY guys's fastball. If you're only good with a few pitches, those are the guys who don't stay consistently great very long. So when you judge if someone is going to be a good closer, you have to ask about them, "what makes them unhittable?"
  10. You're right, and I keep telling myself that.
  11. Unfortunately, I think you're right. And that's scary.
  12. Here's how I see the rebuilding progress at this point. The White Sox having a winning record in August I feel came as a result of a young pitching staff beginning to look like a possible formidable rotation within a couple of years. Rodon, Kopech, Lopez and Giolito's improvement after a nightmarish start and rough year. Throw Cease into this mix in the future and the pitching is beginning to take form. The every day lineup still has a long way to go. Of their 8 regulars, maybe 4 of them should be regulars when we expect to be contending again, and maybe as few as 2. Abreu, (If he's still here, but he appears to be a leader with the young players so I think he will be,) and Moncada. ( A tough rookie year caused mostly by not making enough contact, but I'd say be patient with this guy. He can hit for power, run, and will take a walk.) The other 2 on the bubble are Anderson and Avisail Garcia. Now Anderson is beginning to look more like a guy who should stick, mostly from his improvement defensively. He was a butcher in the field last year and had 10 errors by the end of May this year. But he made only 1 error the entire month of August and 2 since July 10th. He's also making plays now he wasn't making before. Before, you had to think "who would want a .240 hitting shortstop who commits a ton of errors." But now with his improved defense, to go along what he can provide, some speed and power, and he's beginning to look like someone they can win with if playing everyday. But the jury's still out on Garcia. Yeah, he may be playing hurt, but he still swings at WAY too many pitchers pitches, so he gets himself out a lot. Having a bad knee shouldn't make him do this. I think last year was a career year. Maybe he's not a .230 hitter, but he isn't a .330 one either. We'd be foolish to expect him to ever duplicate that. Everyone else is either a bit player or shouldn't be here at all. Palka's dangerous and could help as a hitter coming off the bench. A Warren Newson or Jerry Hairston, for those of you who remember them. Sanchez is a good utility/back up infielder and Engel can be a defensive replacement on a contending team. Everyone else......I just hope that when it's getting closer to the White Sox contending they do go out and fill what holes they have by spending some money. It's not going to be able to just be go young and leaving it at that. I know the tear down to build up method is in vogue because the Cubs and Astros, the last two WS champs did this, but what has to be remembered is this. The Cubs didn't win the WS because of Addison Russell. They did because they picked up Lester and traded for Chapman. And the Astros didn't win because of George Springer. They did because they traded for Verlander. I hope the White Sox remember that.
