  1. I'd wait and see at the trade deadline. Say we trade him and get an OF. Then who replaces Gio? We're not going to sign someone that equals his performance and we don't have anyone in the minors that would either. We're trying to contend. If he's playing well and so is the team you keep him to try and win the WS even if you know he'll be gone. If he's playing well and we're not.. you trade him.
  2. Two years ago? Great move. Now? Wong move unless we dont have to pay the 10 mill and provide a decent piece.
  3. I think he is as bad, if not worse, than Eloy.
  4. Ok sure you're right about Eloy for sure. But Jose isn't signing to be a part time player. If we keep him and start him bc of what ifs then he'd start and put us back to having terrible OF defense. Your 1B needs to have more than 15 hr power. Eloy was hurt, EV played his first real season, Robert injured, etc. As you said, Jose doesn't miss much time. Yet he hit below 20 hrs.
  5. I don't understand the people that want him back as this team is constructed. Unless you think we trade Eloy or EV we have zero need for a 1b who couldn't hit 20 hrs this year. He's only getting older. You're literally letting your emotions guide your decisions for what is best for this team. I love Jose. Thank him for all he's done and put up with. He's a great player. Wish him the best wherever he signs and looking forward to his retirement as a Sox.
  6. I love Jose. He will retire a Sox. But based on how this teams is built he should not be here next year. AV at first. Eloy DH. Get a RF (or I guess wait for Colas). We can spend the Jose money on needs. Let him go to a contender and hopefully win something. I could see a team like the Rays signing him.
  7. Rome or Sosa. I wouldn't let this streak fool us into overpaying for him. Btw, I'm not hating on him. He's been a major spark. Loving the dude right now
  8. I'm not one of those "I'll stop following the Sox if...". But, if they allow TLR back this season and we start losing I may have to.
  9. IMO so much of our issues are drafting and development. We can't trade our good prospects for rentals. After our top prospects the minors tank hard. This means we either overpay for a rental or don't and get beat by other teams' offers. Other than Vaughn who was our last good draft pick that is contributing at the major level? TA? I'm not even going to count Rodon when all we got was one good year. When was the last time we developed a mid round pick into something? Madrigal Burdi Burger Fulmer Collins Blah
  10. I would see where we stand at the TDL. If our bats still haven't woken up trade Gio (no way he resigns). Trade Lynn if he's doing well. Not that I trust it'll happen or go well... but we need to retool and try again next year. That or we've wasted the window. Retool around Robert, Cease, Kopech, Vaughn, etc. Stop trying to bring in garbage vets like Harrison and let's see what some of the young kids have. Then go after players to fill in needs where the young guys can't fill them bc they need more time
  11. Not sure I see the difference other than messing with Kopech by technically making him a RP. Does it matter if he throws 90 pitches from inning 1 to 5/6 or if throws 90 pitches from 3 to 8/9? It's all about limiting his pitches/innings not which innings he's pitching imo.
  12. Ideally he retires or is fine taking a team friendly contract knowing it will be his last and he wont play evey day. Knowing the Sox they want him to retire only having played for us (so do I). So they are hoping for retirement. But if he does not go with the 2 above scenarios they will still extend him although they should not. I am all for being loyal to your players but you have to have a limit when it comes to said loyalty makes no sense for the team as built. If Frank played for a couple of other teams so can Jose. Changes nothing that once he retires he's a Sox.
  13. I don't consider myself a casual fan. I've been a fan since 1994 when I moved to the US and learned about baseball. I pay for mlb package bc I want to watch the games. I catch a game a year when they come to Tampa and I've flown to Chicago and specifically timed it to watch a games. I own a lot of Sox clothing. I've just never understood letting something you dont have anything to do with consume you and alter your mood. It's a game. I'm very happy when they win. When they lose I get upset for about 10 minutes and then remember my life doesn't change win or lose. The Sox never go to bed upset about something that happened to me lol
  14. If they're putting Eloy out there and haven't learned anything I'm not sure why this would change things
