I really don't care about anything Chuck says.
-
Have lost two series each to the Twins and Royals, one to the Brewers and now this one to the Yankees since the break. Good thing they had three games against the Cubs. Fans are assuming the the division is won. I wouldn't assume that just yet.

The Cubs have given up 41 runs during the last three games. Hope their fans are enjoying the tank.

Where does Tim Anderson's FOD walk-off rate in Sox homer lore?
NWINFan replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For me, there are so many things special about the Konerko grand slam, starting with Konerko himself. Part of it was him swinging at the first pitch and just launching it. I've watched that homer over and over, and it never gets old. Same thing with Thome's. -

Even though this was a regular season game, I think this home run will be remembered and revered for a long time. And it should. Regardless, I think Konerko's World Series grand slam is the greatest moment in team history. -
The movie Field of Dreams is a nicely written fantasy. Tim's home run was like a fantasy come true. The top of the ninth was a damned nightmare.

Can't stop watching it.

Sox vs. Yankees 6:15pm CDT - In Iowa - on FOX

Field of Dreams is not a masterpiece. It is a nice movie. And it is amazing how a corn field can attract so many people. -
Yes, it does mentally to take a day off from playing. All I can tell you is that I vividly recall Randy Hundley chasing a foul ball in play and was unable to get because to get because he was exhausted. Think about it. A catcher playing 150 games? That's insane. Players aren't machines. And I don't care about Cal Ripken. How do you know he didn't play some bad games because he should have had his self-centered ass on the bench?
-
I agree also. I don't believe in "Sunday lineups." Yet, players still need rest. One reason the Cubs faded in 1969 is that Durocher played his starters constantly. Randy Hundley caught 151 games and by September, he was spent. Kessinger played in 158 games and he also looked spent by September. The Mets got really hot, but physically the Cubs were in bad shape. But a manager can rest starters without out and out conceding games.

The Cubs lost another embarrassing game to the Brewers 10-0 last night. 10 so-called Cub hitters were struck out in a row. Their losing streak now stands at seven. Cub Fan and chronicler Al Yellon is embarrassed. He understands the logic behind the Cub sell-out, but still thinks the Cub FO has to do something to shore up this team. Plainly said, he wrote that this current squad is one of the worst of all Cub teams, and that's saying a lot. This is the big down-side to tanking. Fans are expected to be loyal, bite the bullet, and pay major league prices to watch a minor league level team. Yes, rebuilds and tank jobs have worked, but one can only guess how long the losing will last. And do these cycles have happen over and over again? I'll take the wins any day, but the Sox sweeping the Cubs was no big deal. They were kicking someone when they are down. Nothing special about it, except you want the wins because they count in the standings. Tanking is not good for baseball. Tanking teams don't provide any real competition. There has to be a better way than this. Tanking every five years or so doesn't cut it.

Yes, there is an important stretch coming up and the team has no offense.
-
It is truly amazing what Eloy brings to an offense. At any time, the offense can explode. Then the game is over. Ask the Cubs. Ask the Twins.
-
Happy for the wins, but this was anti-climatic. The real challenge is the rest of this month's schedule. Meanwhile, the Cubs will be off the radar for a time.
-
Not expecting much from Luis offensively right away, but glad to see him back. He can catch the ball and get ready for the post season.
-
It would be nice if a late-inning multi-run lead isn't blown.
-
It will be hard to sweep the Cubs when they face Hendricks the first game. What I would like to see in this series is an offense, especially in the last two games. The offense needs to wake up a lot, not a bit. Maybe Eloy can find his swing some and knock a couple out.

It’s morning and Tony LaRussa is trending again.
NWINFan replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I never considered Telander to be all that bright. I stopped reading him a long time ago. -
Social media encourages this nonsense. People can get awfully brave sitting at their keyboards. Not to mention sick. This society has some real issues.

This type of rebuild or retool is getting old. I realize teams sometimes have to trade off expensive veterans. But as they are winning, they don't seem take care of their farm system. So, they have to raid young prospects from other teams, and tank it for at least one season, maybe more. A rebuild is justified with winning. But fans having to watch meaningless games is not fun.

How long will it take for Cubs to return to playoffs?
NWINFan replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
My vote is only a guess, but I'm sure Cub fans won't be as patient as in the past. Ricketts may find that he will have to do more than stand by the Harry Caray statue with an Old Style to pacify the Cub cult. -

I don't know what LaRussa's exact politics are and could care less. I'm not even saying he is doing a bad job this year. My concern was if he was the right choice in the long run. This was a big decision, and it seemed to be made with little thought. -
That’s a White Sox Winner, take the series from the Guardians
NWINFan replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the team can get quality relief innings from Lopez, that would be huge. Just get someone in there who won't blow multi-run leads. -

At my age, I can barely walk much less run. The only time I run is when I have to take a leak. Then, I hightail it. Otherwise, I don't have the motivation, even when a good-looking blond walks by. With all the complications, I'm not chasing her. So, I grab my walking stick, find a nice park bench and feed the pigeons. I can always fantasize about the blond if I want. I'm not a LaRussa fan, but I'm not piling on. If he can make it to home plate from the dugout, more power to him. But I would like to see him venture out there with a cane. The hell with the ageism. -
This is a tough stretch. Winning eight or nine of these games would be good. We will see how good this team is. Hopefully it will keep the blowouts to a minimum.
