I don't understand the fascination with Guillen. It is really time to cut ties with the past. 2005 was a long time ago. If the FO wants to make a change, I'd prefer they get someone outside the organization. At the very least interview a handful of candidates and come up with a choice. But just handing the job to Guillen doesn't make sense. This has to be an intelligent decision, not something based on emotion. Guillen does know a great deal about the game. I just don't want him managing the White Sox. Not now. Not ever.

Everything is hard to say during the current atmosphere. The doctors treating him were optimistic but wouldn't directly answer whether he was given oxygen or not. For the next couple of weeks things may get sorted out. Right now, I don't think we really know exactly how he is doing. The people around him have to make some tough choices such as making a decision on whether or not power has to be passed to Pence. If he ends up doing poorly, the choice cannot be left to him.

I honestly don't know how good or bad Cooper is. However, one assessment the FO has to do this off-season is to look at the manager and the coaching staff. Keeping someone just for the sake of keeping him doesn't make sense. If the FO really thinks Cooper is good and will help complete the rebuild, that at least has some logic. But giving a person a job like this for life doesn't make sense otherwise.

As President, Trump is entrusted to do what he can to protect the American people. He didn't even protect his family, staff, friends and supporters. And, oh, he also didn't protect himself. There can be all kinds of debates of how to handle the virus. But pretending that it doesn't exist isn't one way to handle it. Finally, wearing a mask or social distancing is not a permanent thing. Once there is a vaccine, once there is a way to treat the condition, and finally, once we are able to build an immunity to it, things will back to normal. This will only take time. But taking no precautions is absurd. The White House is nothing but a virus cluster. As a result, we are in a constitutional crisis and our national security is jeopardized. It is time to stop with the denial already. Stop with the whining. Suck it up and let's get through this as quickly as possible. But pretending everything is all right is not going to do it.

It was a good run, I must admit. If my memory serves right, they went to the post season five out of the last six years. If the Sox ever do that, I'll be more than happy. But the Cub fans no longer think losing is lovable. And losing is on its way at least for a couple of seasons. Hope Cub fans enjoy that Marquee network.

Over at Cubbie Blue, a Cub fan pointed out that the Cubs got as many hits in two games as Tim Anderson did in three. Another showed the Cubs post-season record since 2016 and it was 2-7, mostly from scoring one or none in a game. Yes, the hits just keep coming.

I guess the Cubs dynasty is over. It wasn't fun while lasted, but it's fun now that it has ended.

I don't think that Trump realizes how bad his credibility is at this point. As I said in another post, there is always this propaganda when a president is ill or facing a health crisis. Trump's voice was raspy and aides noticed he wasn't doing well. I obviously don't know how serious things are, but I do not believe he is "fine." In time, we will see how bad this really is. Meanwhile, Trump is in his mid-seventies, has other health issues, and it is possible he suffered some strokes a few months ago. He liked to dismiss things before. He can't dismiss things now. We can't, either. And it would help if the crazies stop circulating dumb ass conspiracy theories. Right now, we need some honest information.

I think this was the key. The Sox didn't have even a passable #3 starter to pitch a must game. You had a rookie hit hard by Cincy, and Lopez was lit up by the Cubs. If someone credible to fill this role is not picked up in the off season, 2021 can be a long year even with the powerful offense. The FO needs to consider important changes. I have no idea if it has the will to do so.

A baseball season, even a shortened one, exposes a team. The last two weeks, when the Sox lost 10 of 13, exposed the club. I don't know if this team goes to the playoffs during a 162-game season. This doesn't mean this season wasn't fun. It was great fun. You can see the young talent developing on the team. Before we had to watch placeholders go through the motions as the young talent developed in the minors. At least now we can see the potential. But we may have to realize that it is possible this club is still one year away.

There is one big problem with this: If others exposed go through real troubles or even die, he will not be able to say it is no big deal. Secondly, he is probably feeling worse than we know. Any time a president goes through a medical crisis, his staff will act as if nothing is wrong when it is very wrong. And the fact that they tried to keep the lid on this means things are quite serious. Lastly, this shows once and for all his lack of credibility on this issue. Act stubborn, mock others, then infect them because he wanted to play some stupid, inane macho act. He should resign because of this sheer stupidity. And its about time his macho, idiot followers start thinking of others besides themselves.

Mazara over Leury is not all that crazy. Encarnacion should not be in the lineup. It is just plain frustrating watching him bat.
-
Exactly. After that walk, it was time to go to the bullpen. Giolito was even close on that walk. I didn't understand what Renteria was thinking at that point.
-
I think we can say that Abreu should be the MVP. For a second, I thought he hit his second homer in the eighth. If he is really locked in, Oakland is truly finished.
-
Yes, it is silly. Skeptical as I get sometimes, I certainly am not calling for massive or any firings in the FO. They have now turned a corner and deserve at least some benefit of the doubt. But even Hahn has said more work needs to be done. Let's see how they do it.
-
It is sad especially with some of the excitement this season. However, fans still have to wonder what will happen next. Will the team spend money and spend it wisely? Will the young talent continue to develop? One phase of the rebuild is done. Let's see what the FO does with the next phase.
-
Kind of ironic since Eddie Einhorn was one big proponent of expanding the playoffs and until this shortened season the White Sox didn't take advantage of that. I don't expect the Sox to go too far, but that doesn't take away what the team has accomplished this season despite that nightmarish last week and a half.
-
Right now this is Nick Foles' team, pure and simple. Mitch makes good plays at times, but you look up at the board and there's no points there.
-
This is a great analysis. Yes, you cannot just rely on the home run. From 2001-04, the Sox hit a ton of home runs and won nothing. The long ball just isn't there sometimes and a team has to find another way to win. The back-to-back-to back homers against Cincy were exciting, but five home runs in a game, and they score five runs? Where was the rest of the offense? I actually give the Sox an A for the season. You can see all the raw talent on the club. But now that talent has to be developed and additional pieces need to be picked up. The job still needs to be completed and much more needs to be done. The team will not go to the World Series this year. I never expected it, too. Now, how badly does the FO want to make this a truly elite major league franchise?

9-23 Game Thread: Sox @ Cleveland (5:10 PM)

If he is going to be considered the ace, Giolito needs to bring it tonight. Shut the Indians down. If they have to win 2-1, 3-2, fine. It's time to play like a post-season team. I don't care who is on the mound for the other guys. They're going to face tough pitching in the playoffs. I had hoped the Cubs series would be meaningless. That isn't the case now. I know that all teams have slumps, but a first place team should not get swept in a four-game series. It is time for Giolito to put an end this shit. This has been an exciting season. Don't end it like the 1969 Cubs. -

This is true, but the Indians just ran out of gas. They were playing .700 ball and couldn't keep that up. The Sox can still win the division but they are being exposed a little right now. -
What the country needs is consistent and accurate information. The CDC is being compromised for political reasons. All of this just adds to the bad situation, and there is absolutely no excuse for it.

Getting into the post season is the main thing but blowing the division especially after that big series against the Twins would be a big disappointment. And the team doesn't want to go into the post season playing like they are now. I don't care what Stoney implied.
