  1. I would hope the White Sox would take no one lightly. These are still ,major league teams, and they still have to execute. I am greatly encouraged by the recent White Sox performance, but I am not taking anything as a given.
  2. The rebuild is at a real crosswords, no doubt about it. I got a strange feeling looking at the 10-1 score. The whole week just demonstrated that the team has real talent and has turned a significant corner. More work needs to be done. Young talent still has to develop, other pieces need to be added. Finally, we can see what the future can look like. It is up to FO and field management to take it from here.
  3. To me, the con game is still on with the Cubs even with the recent success. It is all about the ballpark and the neighborhood. I wouldn't trust the Ricketts family if I was a Cub fan. It will interesting to see if the team starts losing again and how the ownership will react. Will Cub fans find losing lovable again?Did their fans enjoy those two poundings the Sox gave them?
  4. Any fast tracking the vaccine before the election is plainly irresponsible. It is really worse than that.
  5. There is no way the team can keep up this home run barrage. One sign of a good team is the ability to win low-scoring games. A 3-2 type of win would look good.
  6. Yes, we love it when the White Sox beat the Cubs. Their traditions are stupid, and their dumb ass fans barely know the difference between a baseball and a hockey puck. And Abreau's five home runs in two games will haunt them for decades. But the overall picture is much more important. Consider the things that happened during the second decade of the 21st Century: Ozzie imploding in 2011 Adam Dunn's .159 Average Adam LaRouche's stupidity and his under-performing Chris Sale cutting up uniforms A 99-loss season and a 100-loss season And so much more. Now all games are important, not just the ones against the Cubs. For the first time since who knows when, we can hope for a division title. Wow, it's been a long 10 years. FInally, and most important, it looks like the rebuild is truly taking shape. Now, there is a bigger hope. The White Sox can be a contending team not just for one or two seasons. If things work out, this decade can be great. That would be something considering what happened during the last one.
  7. You are right about this. What the Sox demonstrated against the Cubs is that they have a hell of a lineup. They can do this against the Cubs or any other team. If a pitcher doesn't bring his best game, he'll get his ass kicked. If anything, the rest of the season will be entertaining.
  8. What you say here makes a lot of sense, Greg. Yes, quit judging others. How about quit hating others? What a waste of energy.
  9. I am not one to read too much into one game; the next two will be tough. But there is something symbolic about the 10-1 win. The Sox look like they are on the rise, and the Cubs look like they are on the decline. I hear little talk about a dynasty and what a genius Theo is. They had their nice playoff run and it's over. What do the Cubs fans have left ? A greedy and fascist owner and the Marquee Network. In reality, the Cubs were more lovable when they were losing. Their past success wasn't deserved. Future losing is.
  10. Brings back the greatest of memories. There was no Sox team like the South Side Hitmen.
  11. I have never seen a White Sox offense this dominant. This has been an incredible week. I will always enjoy every Eloy home run against the Cubs. A sweep is too much to expect but who knows with this offense?
  12. This is going to be a tough series. If somehow the White Sox win two of three, it would be time to get really excited. The key is getting into the Cubs bullpen.
  13. Yes, you're right about the freedom thing. Yet, wearing a mask at certain times, and social distancing at certain times has nothing to do with the freedom thing. Funny how people talk about freedom and rights, but they don't care about discrimination of all kinds, and don't appear to worry we are moving toward a police state. Those things don't bother them a bit.
  14. Powerful editorial and is indictive of how the whole situation has been handled from the start. Political and economic considerations come first, and real decency and leadership are nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile, the situation only worsens.
  15. Yes, if only. Where I live, the town board discussed having a fall festival in our town square. One town board member doubted that was wise as it expose town workers to a large gathering. So true. However, with people with outlaying communities attending as well, we would have the potential to spread the virus throughout the local geographical area. Maybe we should realize we have a pandemic here.
  16. Chuck Tanner. Ozzie Guillen. A pair of over-rated thugs.
  17. Einhorn was asking a lot. The team just came out of the 1970s when it had just two winning seasons and an 106-loss season in 1970. He was asking people to have faith and begin paying for the privilege of watching the team on TV during a deep economic downturn. Many blue-collar workers, thought of as the typical White Sox fan, were being laid off by the tens of thousands. I was one of those laid off. I went to two games that year and both times I was able to get free tickets. I was in no position to buy into Sportsvision. Right on the South Side U.S. Steel had a plant that had 10,000 workers at one time. By the early 1980s, it had 900. I have no idea if Einhorn was even aware of the local economic situation.
  18. Yes, Engel has contributed more. But that isn't saying much. EE looks like another veteran that was signed a year too late.
  19. I have been a fan for a time, so I can think of worse DH losses than this one. The 1967 sweep by the A's was truly pathetic. The team lost a bunch of doubleheaders in 1970 and many were simply brutal. This was not that bad, bad as it was. I didn't know what expectations to have when the season began. But I thought I would see an entertaining team, and, for the most part, that hasn't happened. If the club cannot finish a few games over .500 in a 60-game season, then there is something really wrong. The rebuild can't be used as an excuse anymore. Most of us agree that change needs to be made. Most of us know that probably won't happen. 2005 is becoming a hazy memory.
  20. I don't think Einhorn was as bad as some think, but he didn't understand White Sox fans and probably didn't want to. He came down on fans for attendance in 1982. 1982 was the first full year for the ownership. Attendance increased over 700,000 from 1980. Also, at that time, 1982 was one of the best years for attendance in franchise history. I doubted that Einhorn knew anything about that history, and he came across as self-entitled. I had a booth at SoxFest one year. Einhorn' s wife and son had a booth next to me. His son had made a documentary on the 1983 division winners. To be polite, I introduced myself to Mrs. Einhorn. She seemed somewhat shocked that someone was acting nice to her. Obviously, his family had felt the fan backlash. Einhorn didn't get certain things. I was told by one Chicago sportswriter that Einhorn could be a decent guy. I just can't think of any contributions he made to the franchise.
  21. You're probably right about that, but Engel is basically a late inning defensive replacement. On your other post: You are right that the organization needs a shakedown. You are also right that it won't happen. The clock is ticking on this rebuild.
  22. You know things are bad if Adam Engel is your hope.
  23. Thompson was a dedicated governor and a good man. He helped save Reinsdorf and Einhorn from themselves. You are so right. Moving the White Sox to Florida would have been a disaster and would have, for all purposes, destroyed the franchise. Too bad there has been only 4 division titles in the near 30 years of the new stadium. Einhorn made a history of knocking White Sox fans. The concept of fan alienation began with him.
  24. I don't know how much credibility this shortened season will have with all this stuff going on. And I have a strong feeling more trouble is on the way. If they do get in a World Series, the winner won't be remembered as other past winners.
  25. Administration pronouncements on Pandemic Pandemic under control - wrong Disinfectants will cure disease - wrong A drug meant to treat other ailments will cure disease - wrong Summertime heat will kill virus - wrong We are ready to re-open - wrong Virus will go away - wrong Testing not needed - wrong Just about everything else that was said - wrong
