I can't believe this would even be considered. The 1919 scandal has hovered over this franchise for a century now. No way they should do this.,
-
What I wanted for 2020 was a major league lineup. That is what the Sox have. We will see if the organization takes the final steps to complete this rebuild.

Hahn is getting all the praise, Theo no longer "Sainted"
NWINFan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree with this in part. The White Sox have won nothing since 2008. But even a cynic like me sees the rebuild has started to work. As I have said on other posts, one or two good seasons is not the key here. The success of this rebuild will be gauged on the overall performance of the team in this decade. It is time turn this franchise around in a major way. If Hahn does that, he will deserve any praise he gets. -

Don't care about Theo at the moment. Hahn and the Sox did what they had to this off-season. They couldn' t tell their fans to wait one more season and go through another losing campaign. Their strategy seems to be this: No mega contracts, sign up young players for long periods and hope for long-term success without dishing out millions upon millions for one player. At the very least, 2020 should be a winning season. And if the strategy works in the long run, this rebuild will be a huge and much needed success. This needs to happen. 2010 was a miserable decade. Perhaps the White Sox can become a franchise with a real identity. -
The Bears need to at least admit to themselves that Trubisky was a mistake. Problem is that the team is not in the position to draft a quarterback. But this offense has enough problems without Trubisky compounding things. Let's not have a Bobby Douglass situation where the guy plays for years and the team stinks for years.

Three games against the Packers and Chiefs. 19 points, one touchdown, three losses. That says it all.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
NWINFan replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am looking forward to the season to start as well, and I can't say I can remember when I felt that way. I understood the strategy behind the rebuild, but watching some of the awful losing was hard to take. And going through a whole decade without going to the playoffs was also hard to take. Some posters have pointed out that the Sox again have passed on the top flight fee agents. Let's face it. They will never spend like the Yankees or other big market teams. The key is to at least spend some and spend wisely. The club had to address the rotation and it did. Now we have to hope young arms will develop. That is how a rebuild works, and so there is still progress to be made. I speculate about several things: As the new decade begins, are the White Sox truly committed to rebuilding this franchise? Can they build a more solid fan base? Can they establish credibility as a first rate major league team? That is what has been at stake with this rebuild, not just short-term winning. 100 years ago they suffered in the aftermath of the Black Sox scandal. I don't think the team ever recovered from that scandal. Better late than never. It's time to do it now. This off-season is only a start. It's time to begin a new type of history. Does the FO realize this? Is it up to it? -

I'm with Caulfield. We finally can look forward to a season for the first time in ages. Will they win the AL Central? Maybe not. But it's nice to have some hope. -
The back end of the rotation has been so bad anything sounds good to me. Just hope another pitcher is on the way. I saw a story about Lindor going to the Reds, not the Sox.
-
The Sox need to bolster their pitching staff and shouldn't let one year get in their way. They were never in the hunt for Cole or Strasman and they missed out on Wheeler. If you can extend Abreu, you sign either Ryu or Keuchel. This isn't "going all in." This would demonstrate to the fans that team wants to at least get over the .500 mark and stop the losing. The playoffs can come later. One thing at a time. Just do it.

Showing interest means nothing. Results only matter and we are still waiting.

There is a lot of angst and debate over a trade that is never going to happen. I appreciate many here who have used their imaginations to come up with trade proposals that would improve the club. However, it is also frustrating to think about them because the Sox have done so little. As it has been pointed out, there is still time in this off-season to do something. But so much of the prime talent is now gone. I am not waiting for or anticipating any big moves to be made by this franchise. If they do something to improve the roster, I will be happily surprised. But I will not believe it until it actually happens. and I won't speculate about it.

Great post. My sentiments exactly.

At this point, I could care less what Steve Stone says. His arrogant tone is condescending. I wish he'd stop telling fans what to think. If we want to complain, we'll complain. Seven straight losing seasons will do that.

Hahn is not a failure yet even with this disappointing off season so far. What has been demonstrated is that the White Sox will not act like a large market team and so Hahn will have to find other ways to build a winning team. Players like Cole and Rendon are not going to come here. Even if fans will be patient with another losing or non-contending team in 2020, the rebuild excuse is a hand that can't be played anymore. Winning in the low Seventies is not going to cut it any more. I don't want to hear empty more promises. What ticked me off was not the fact that the Sox didn't sign someone like Cole. What is infuriating about Hahn is that he talks big. He should do his job and let his actions speak for themselves. I want more progress and less talk. It is time to build, not rebuild. Now, how is he going to do that? Let him prove how successful he can be.
-
If the fans had too high of expectations, that blame can be put on the FO. After the Grandal signing, Hahn talked big. He acted little. My assessment of the White Sox is this: the team will never be at the table for big free agent signings. Fans better hope the rebuilding from within works. It's not going to come from the free agent market. In the meantime, look forward to more losing. How's that for expectations?
-
This is normal for other teams, not necessarily the White Sox. The point of my post is that I am not wasting my time getting my hopes up. If something happens, that is good. But I am not waiting for it , or anticipating it.
-
I now have little patience and I will believe this when it happens, not one second before.
-
The bottom line for me, at this point, is that the White Sox did little to improve their team. Maybe they have a move or two left, but I'm not anticipating it. But Hahn should do something, or he will have very little credibility with fans. Not that he has much now.
-
The way I feel if he doesn't care, why should I?
-
I have heard enough rumors during past couple of days. I would like my mind to rest. As far as any impact moves, I will only believe that when they actually happen. I certainly won't listen to this front office.
-
Getting my hopes up is one thing I will not do. If somehow this FO finally builds a winner, great. But as of now, I don't want to hear anything about a rebuild or that 2020 is still not the year. And I don't want to hear about fans being patient. Going on 12 years without a post season appearance which is the second longest since division play began in 1969. Yes, we have to go back to the Seventies to be this bad.
-
Let's hope they did. There is no way the White Sox need Price.

Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker
NWINFan replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We don't owe them shit, either. It is voluntary. I will no trouble staying away from the ball park if this team continues to lose. -
I agree with this. Actually, I am one for not spending over $300 million on one player. That is the idea behind a rebuild. The team develops players from within without getting bogged down to long term contracts that might just hinder the club later. But free agent money still needs to be spent eventually. At least the team made a good effort on Wheeler but more needs to be done. Either that or the Sox have another non-contending season.
