This is not the Bears year.

I don't think we can dump all this in Renteria's lap
NWINFan replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is what you call part of a losing culture. Why challenge it when you think you are going to lose anyway? Why back up your players against an ump when you think you are going to lose anyway? Yes, changes need to be made. It would do the team good and send a message to the fans. But why do it when you think you are going to lose anyway? -
I don't know what it is about this game, but I found it the most disappointing and disturbing loss of the season,

I have no idea what the White Sox are planning to do this offseason. I do believe the time for tanking is over. If the FO doesn't do anything substantial to at least get this team over .500, then it isn't serious about winning big in the long run. Seven straight losing seasons is long enough. It is time to move to the next phase. No more trading for prospects, no more promises. Time for some results in the win-loss column.
-
Back then, they should have fired Hawk and kept Dombrowski. Why Reinsdorf believed in and listened to Hawk is beyond me. Hawk in the FO was truly one of the dumbest moves of the White Sox ownership.

Game Thread - 09/12/19 - Royals @ Sox - Gio Day

To tell you the truth, I don't know if being 83 means anything to Jerry Reinsdorf when it comes to the White Sox. I guess we will see in the offseason. -

Perhaps, but let's see what happens during this off season. I am somewhat optimistic about the future, but I'd like to see the team go over the .500 mark before going too ga-ga. -

Loss clinches losing season, the seventh in a row. It's been a tough decade. -
Since it has been 50 years, some Cub fans are looking back at the "iconic" team of 1969, the team that won nothing. In the third game of the Padre series, the Cubs looked like the 1969 team down the stretch. In the second Rizzo led off the inning by banging one off the right field wall. The ball got away from the right fielder, and Rizzo hustled out a triple on a fairly close play at third. But then the next batter hit a medium fly to center. Rizzo could have scored, but he didn't move off third. The throw from center was short and off line. Rizzo made an aggressive play to get his triple risking being thrown out at third. But he didn't risk getting thrown out at home when he had a better chance. He never scored. It was another example of the Cubs looking like the down the 1969 stretch Cubs, looking for ways to lose. They still may get the second wild card, but I can't see them going deep into the playoffs. Right now they look like they are feeling the heat of expectations. It was almost easier when they were lovable losers.

9/11 | Royals @ White Sox | Sparkman vs López | 7:10pm
NWINFan replied to Tnetennba's topic in 2019 Season in Review
Would like to see Lopez demonstrate some consistency as the season closes. Other than that, there is nothing more boring than playing Kansas City. -
Yes, and Jerry Reinsdorf continued Dombrowksi on the White Sox benefit plan until Dombrowski found another job. So Dombrowski left on good terms as far as Reinsdorf was concerned. I know Dombrowksi has his negative side, but he has a good baseball mind. But it is unlikely he would want to come back for several reasons. And the White Sox, even with past good feelings, probably wouldn't want him back. Regardless, I'd like to see him return to the White Sox. I think he is a good baseball man.
-
This is true on both counts. Boston expects to win, and people are held accountable if they don't. Reinsdorf has said firing LaRussa was his biggest mistake. No, his biggest mistake was two fold: Elevating Hawk Harrelson to the FO and letting that mope fire Dave Dombrowski. Hey, about this for a suggestion? Fire Hahn and Williams and hire Dombrowski. Or at least bring Dombrowski back into the organization.

I am sure he baffles everyone. He has the arm and has the stuff. He should be a winning pitcher. Today he made it look easy.

I don't know what the third base coach was doing, but there is no reason for Abreu doing what he did. It makes no sense. A veteran player shouldn't do things like this. As bad as this play was, I don't think it cost the Sox the game. The outfield play of Garcia and Palka certainly didn't help any. -
And That's a Future of the White Sox Winner !
NWINFan replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know how much of this losing is Kenny's fault, but you are absolutely right about the offseason. The losing needs to stop, and some real moves need to be made. By now the FO has to know how the rebuild has shaped up and what to do next. No more talking about patience. No more trading for prospects. No more lecturing fans. Time to turn this corner already. -

I was blown away by Cease. Guy looked unhittable, and this was a great rebound after his last start. With the way he threw last time, I thought he was hurt. The team needed a win. Things were looking so bad. It's nice to see the Sox actually look like a major league team. -

They have to spin things somehow. The only way to sell this team is to keep saying they are not giving up. But this time it didn't even sound believable. It would be better if Jason and Steve didn't spin things. Don't be like Hawk with his dead air. Just don't spin things. It only makes matters worse. -

Having a winning culture is not just a cliché. The real downside to a tank and rebuild that takes years to turn things around and the losing gets to the players, coaches and managers. After a time it takes its toll. Its human nature to get down at times. The result is what fans are seeing in this losing streak. There is no need to over-analyze this game. The Sox were just plain bad in almost every aspect of the game. Walks, bone-head plays, failure to deliver a big hit, and a bottom of the order that gives three innings away. Even the manager gets thrown out when the ump makes the right call. This was not major league baseball. It was a travesty. The FO can't keep telling fans to have patience. Changes have to be made in the off-season. I won't have faith in this rebuild if the team continues to sit on its hands. Just because you have some good young players doesn't mean you're going to eventually win anything. Right now 2020 looks like more losing. -
He does have a long way to go, and with work, he can get there. That's why I wasn't impressed with his bat-throwing theatrics. Forget the showboating and work on becoming the all-around star he can be. I know being a great athlete doesn't make one a great major league baseball player, but Tim should be a better defensive player. If not gold glove material, at least better.
-
They got swept at home which is never good. Four of these games, they gave up a ton of runs, which also isn't good. By the way, when do the Sox get to be a really good team? Do they ever get to do that?
-
You are right about this. There are too many games when the Sox don't look like a major league club. In some series, they just get pasted and provide little or no competition. During the rebuild, there are too many players on this club that would not be on any other team, even a bad one. That is why this off season is important. The developing players have to be supported by at least a few veterans. Robert, Eloy and Moncada have the potential but are very young and they will struggle. No team wins with young players only. Expecting a contending team in 2020 is not realistic. Simply put: The FO can't tell fans to be patient anymore. The overall performance of the team needs to improve even if they don't contend for the post-season. Having a weak offense while giving up runs in double digits doesn't make it anymore.

Sox @ Braves 6:05 CDT NBCSN-CHI Lopez vs Keuchel
NWINFan replied to Jack Parkman's topic in 2019 Season in Review
They've given up 39 runs in the last four games. There is no doubt they need to address this in the off season in a big way. People are crazy to expect big things out of Kopech and Cease. -
You are right about this. There are days when the Sox don't look like a major league team. It has been like that during a great deal of this decade.
-
The bad decision here wasn't firing LaRussa. It was hiring Hawk as GM, a move that set the team back several years. They had let Roland Hemond go, ending an era of sorts. But instead of taking time to think about bringing a new baseball man in, they handed the job to Hawk. Like they handed the manager's job to Ventura. What's next?
-
I don't know about a better chance, but I am somewhat optimistic. What I am concerned about is the FO finishing the job it started. It would be nice if they did something creative this off season. Sitting around waiting for young players doesn't cut it anymore.
