Regardless of the merits of the Kimbrel deal, the White Sox will eventually have to pay for some veteran talent. Building from within is not a bad philosophy, but young teams don't usually win championships. There comes a time when a veteran presence is needed. They can't keep sitting on their hands during the off season and use rebuilding as an excuse. And I couldn't care less what the Cubs and Astros did. Losing is no fun, even with a somewhat hopeful future.

Sox @ Nats (Covey vs Sanchez) 12:05 PM CT First Pitch
NWINFan replied to Richie's topic in 2019 Season in Review
No one is, including Tim, even if he is going to be a great player. But he makes some frustrating errors. That pop up was not an easy play, but it was a makeable one. Tim will make some outstanding and acrobatic plays, then short hop a throw or let a ground ball go under his glove. If he improves on the routine plays, he will be the true star he should be. -
Maybe they don't feel he's ready. Otherwise you're right, the Sox don't have much of a rotation, and it is keeping them from progressing. I don't think he is a cure-all by any means, but they don't have much to lose. I don't know the politics of this, but perhaps he really isn't ready. Regardless, the regression of Lopez is discouraging.

Best Organizational Young Talent Since???
NWINFan replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wouldn't say that. How is this for a group of young players? Frank Thomas, Robin Ventura, Jack McDowell, Wilson Alvarez, Alex Fernandez, and yes, Sammy Sosa. -
During the rebuild, many fans have expected these young players to be called up from the minors and just tear up the league. It is not surprising that Eloy is struggling. Cease and Kopech will also. Some expectations are just not realistic.
-
What is really nice is that these games now seem to matter.
-
I don't think that reaching .500 is totally unrealistic, but we must keep in mind this is a young team, and young teams are prone to mistakes. Everyone likes the sensational play, but it is the failure to execute the routine plays that costs teams in the end. Many want the players to have fun, and I do also. But I don't want to see that getting in the way of concentrating on the routine but the essential part of baseball. What concerns me are series like the one in Minnesota. Yes, the Twins were hot, but the Sox had similar flameouts against Seattle and Tampa. Seeing the team play so bad like that is not encouraging. The team does look better, and, if the Sox win between 75 and 80 games, that's a good sign for the rebuild. I just hope the next off season isn't like the last one.

Laudable goal but it is questionable with this thin starting staff. I am happy with the progress of the team, but there are so many holes . The team would have to make some moves before the trading deadline, but I don't think it has leverage to do so.
-
Cease may have a lot of talent, but I don't know if he will dominate like many fans anticipate. Talent or not, he will still be a rookie. But if the organization thinks he's ready, they should not hesitate to call him up. That's a rebuild is about in the end. Better to call up a prospect than trade for one.
-
When was the last time the White Sox won five in a row? Please, no more trading for prospects.
-
Jason made the comment during a game broadcast about the Sox inching toward .500 and then sliding back. To me, one explanation was obvious and that is the lack of depth in pitching. A team can't go into a long winning streak with a weak rotation. And right now Lopez has me concerned, and he was supposed to be reliable. Then there was the ugliness in Minnesota. Right now I'll just enjoy the winning streak. Just please, no more trading for prospects.
-
I do since he depends on players who just don't produce. I am tired of seeing Alonso doing his Adam Dunn imitation. Alonso just doesn't need to be lower in the lineup; he needs not to be in the lineup.
-
My sentiments exactly. There were many positives for the Sox, but they still blew a big lead against a bad hitting team. I don't see what all the gloating is about. Sox pitching is real thin. I am happy with the team being this close to .500. I surely didn't expect it, but this team has one solid starter and that's it.

Lopez was lucky he had Garcia in center tonight. Not an Impressive start at all.
-
Pitcher looked at his hand after delivering. Don't think it was intentional, and so it is a good thing Anderson didn't react no matter how pissed he was.
-
I do think things are better and there is some cause for optimism. But there are times when I begin believing in the team, and then they have a series like they had in Minnesota. I don't care how good the Twins are, the Sox looked just plain bad. The team still has a way to go even with the progress.

Nice hit by Yolmer. McCann showed again what a great find he has been. The Royals sure do stink.
-
This game should have been stopped long before the fifth. At 4:30 pm, now hailing in Highland, IN.
-
I understand the idea behind the rebuild, but I don't like the idea that game results don't matter. When I go to the park or watch on TV, I am not going to be root for a loss. There is no point in that. Besides, we keep hearing about the young talent the organization has. I am not going to get excited about a high draft pick that may not pan out.
-
Some fans are assuming Cease and Kopech will be dominating pitchers. Maybe they will be, but I'm not assuming anything. I know nothing of Cease, but Kopech needs to work on his command on his return.
-
It is hard to embrace this tank after the Twins series. It's even harder after watching game three. They had only two guys in the lineup that you would consider part of the team's future. They brought up a young catcher who made a throwing error and looked totally over-matched at the plate. Poor guy struck out five straight times. This club reminds me of the 1970 team that lost 106. I know they won't lose 100, but they just don't look like a major league team, not even a bad one.
-
Stone and Benneti have been telling us how good this offense is, but they can't even put the ball in play. And they have been boasting about how well the Sox offense has done in the late innings. Of course, the opposition starter is out, and many times there is a drop off in the bullpen. The White Sox can't come up with the big hit, and only Anderson can put pressure on the opposition defense with base running speed. How many times has the offense registered double-digit strikeouts in a game?

Game Thread : Sox (Banuelos) @Twins (Gibson) 05/25/19
NWINFan replied to Bazox's topic in 2019 Season in Review
The last 10 years is the hard part. This will be the first decade since the 1970s that the White Sox will not go the playoffs at least once in a decade. That's hard to take, rebuild or no rebuild. Not that I don't see positives. Young talent is beginning to develop and the team even looks good at times. But it is not fun to watch a team lose two games by a combined score of 19-5. And please don't tell me the Twins are hot. I don't give a damn if they're hot. -

I agree. That was a lifeless performance. Misjudged flyballs and outfielders making stupid throws all over the place. Hitters were unable to get the ball in play. You could fall asleep in the middle innings and not miss anything. -
Is Ricky the worst manager in White Sox history?
NWINFan replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kessinger was too nice a guy to be manager, but he was also saddled with a no-talent team. There have been worse than him. Like Bevington and Ozzie in his last year.
