4-18 GT: Sox @ Boston - Game 2 (4:10pm)

The stats department emailed Tony the latest shifting recommendations but he couldn't figure out how to open the pdf. The info probably wasn't that important anyway. -

I don't think it's about not criticizing the CCP, totally agree there. At least personally, it just sort of struck me as weirdly glib to make light of such a bad situation. It'd be like a player being born in Bosnia or Rwanda or something and saying "good thing he got out when he did." Obviously not a 1 to 1 example there but yeah, probably too fresh/serious of a situation to be cracking one liners about it. -

In the following silence you could hear Jason trying to compute if Stone just said what he thought Stone just said lol -

lowkey but the Sox have had pretty good catcher defense development for a while now. Multiple times we've had catchers arrive, both from in and out of the system, and they've developed or improved a key part of their defensive game. -

Second time today we've had first and third with less than 2 outs, with a legit base stealer on first, and we haven't had them steal second. Makes no sense to me, you almost never see teams throw through these days anyway -

Kopech is going to be an absolute star. Not even just his results - between his personality, his face, and his electrifying stuff I really think he's going to be one of the most popular players in baseball. Ever since that first start, with the crowd reacting like it was a playoff game, it was obvious he had a connection with the fans. I don't think its any coincidence that this thread is on pace to have 2-3x the number of comments as game one. -

Officially Aerospace Engineering , but really applied math, specifically Artificial intelligence and machine learning. So yeah, I'm definitely one of those Stat nerd baseball fans. -

I haven't missed a single freaking inning of 2021 white Sox baseball until I missed the whole game tonight. To be fair, I missed it because I was celebrating, *ahem*, passing my Ph.D. defense today!!! Apologies if this comes off as bragging, I'm just super excited and pissed and not a little bit drunk. Don't worry though, I'm watching the whole game from the start now ? -

What... what does this even mean? How many teens are going to power rangers movies? Are they throwing tantrums there? Why!? When was the last time a power rangers movie was even in theaters!?! I have so many questions. -

FWIW - the research shows an optimal lineup is worth about 2-3 wins a season against an average lineup. Against the worst possible lineups, the best lineups are worth 10+ wins (For example, the optimal 1989 Braves go 86.5-75.5, whereas the worst order version goes 75.5-86.5). The latter situation doesn't come up often because you'd think an MLB manager could at least manage to make an average lineup every day but, well, here we are. I don't think it makes much of a difference but if you insist ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ : Everyone: The Sox are wrong Cali: No they aren't! Everyone: You are also wrong Cali: "Um so you all are right and and I'm the only one arguing this way? Please check the lineup cards."

Everyone: The Sox are wrong Cali: No they aren't! Everyone: You are also wrong Cali: How can I be wrong if the Sox agree with me?

I'm offended by all the people implying alcohol and age have ruined TLR's ability to make a lineup. Clearly he has a very professional and successful process. -

Where the hell is Parkman when you need him? The sky is finally falling Jack! You're missing your moment! -
Entry level positions available! (Must have a college degree and 4+ years of experience)

We don't like you looking at a face down card and calling it a spade. The lack of minors experience means Vaughn hasn't proven to the fans that he can hit, but between college, spring, and Schaumburg last year he clearly proved to the White Sox talent evaluators that he can hit. So yeah, call it "pedigree" if you want but scouting does in fact earn someone an opportunity. Scouts aren't always right, but neither are AAA stats. Not to mention, Nick Williams has a long track record proving he can't hit. His defense is serviceable, at best, and since the start of 2018 he has a slash line against RHP (his platoon strong side!) of .236/304/405. That is an OPS of .709 and a wRC+ of 91. Nick Williams has been a negative war player every single year since his rookie season. He sucks. With how weak this lineup is right now, I am playing Vaughn every day until the minor leagues start so we can get a good look at him. If Vaughn also sucks, fine send him down. But you can't give him 2 games a week and ask him to "prove it." Just ask Zack Collins

Renovation idea for the rate: No walls. Just chalk a line in a giant outfield, if it hits the ground past that line, homerun. -
A worry with Hendriks was always that is huge useage over the last couple of years would lead to him blowing up on us, especially since he only became elite in 2019 when his 4-Seam went from 94 to 96. Thankfully his pitches so far in 2021 all have the same velo and spin rates as they have had the last two years, so I think this is just a garden variety pitching slump, not the first signs of a major regression. I believe he'll be much better going forward.
