Royals vs Sox Sunday Matinee...1:10 pm CST First Pitch

I love everyone blaming the Manfred rule as if we didn't have a perfectly good opportunity to nail the runner at home and probably prevent them from scoring. -

It figures that he would finally leave CLE and still end up in the fucking division -

Yeah, would love to know how far that Madrigal hit goes in June. -

Apparently even right down the middle isn't good enough -

MLB has a long history of player-managers. Can Yermin be a player-hitting-coach? -

Seeing him get swings and misses is HUGE. He can afford to still lose his release point occasionally when his good stuff is actually good! -
I understand there are logistical challenges with TV deals and tickets (now that fans are back again), but I really wish the MLB could be more proactive in cases like this and, for example, preemptively move Saturday's game to today.

If we are comparing Lynn to horses you missed a layup

Gotta strongly disagree with previous answers, no way he drinks light beers. Bud heavy for sure, but he probably calls it Bud diesel.

Royals got screwed by the ump there but to be fair he might still be cross-eyed

While I think its ridiculous to bring this up right now, thanks to this post and Google I did just learn that Dunning means "to make persistent demands on someone for the payment of debts." So that's kind of ominous....

Someone should really tell the Royals that the rain delay ended (I CAN'T BELIEVE I FINALLY GET TO MAKE THIS JOKE ABOUT THE OTHER TEAM)

And btw, if you do want to be optimistic about Madrigal's future, here are some promising points: In 2020, statcast had him as 3 outs above average (85th percentile! at 2nd base. That was in only 30 games, and with a .961 fielding percentage -- he had .992 in the minors) His sprint speed was 96th in the league, but his top HP to 1B time was 59th. So he may not be as fast as hoped, but have enough acceleration to make up for it (which matters for stolen bases) In his first 30 games facing MLB pitching, he already has a top 20 In Zone contact % and the 2nd best K%. Even with his poor EV and non-existent barrel rate, Statcast had him at an XBA of .303

This is such a straw man. No one is saying he needs to be an All-star right now. If he was batting .290 but playing with sound fundamentals, no one would be complaining (yet). But since the start of 2020 Madrigal is literally dead last in the league with -4.9 baserunning runs. His -0.6 defensive runs puts him at 38th out of 52 second basemen with 100+ at bats. He's been flat-out bad. Madrigal has a pretty limited ceiling, but that was OK because he was supposed to have a rock-solid floor. If it takes him a year or two to develop into a gold glove fielder and an above-average baserunner, that's a huge problem. The whole point of drafting him at #4 instead of higher ceiling players was because he wasn't supposed to have that sort of learning curve. And that's assuming he does develop. I tend to think the fielding will get there, since its mostly errors dragging him down and it appears to be mental. But the baserunning? That is a huge issue, and he looks way slower than promised. And FWIW, even though its only been 35 games, he's had a whole offseason in there. People expect development jumps over offseasons, especially with easily fixable issues like baserunning. It is really frustrating for him to come back and be making the exact same running and fielding errors as last year.

Isn't this the exact argument everyone makes about Madrigal that you reject?
-
There were so many ways to make this joke, come on.

Yeah, bad results but I don't think he's been bad. Groundball found a soft spot, got a strike out, then gives up a lucky ass bloop single. With Haniger's power its tough to prevent a sac fly there. Coming in with no outs and runners on second and third is just a really tough situation (which is why it probs should have been Bummer but that isn't Foster's fault).
-
He's been bad in the field (-0.6 runs), he's been atrocious on the basepaths (-5 runs), and in over 100 MLB ABs he literally has not hit a single ball over 350 feet (no really). Even if he carries a .350 OBP long-term that is a below average player and a disappointment from a top 5 pick. OBVIOUSLY we "lanklets" aren't going to randomly bring all that up when he dinks a double off the sidewall but since you asked, here you go. (And I say all this as someone who thinks he deserves at least a few months to settle in)

tbf he said that four hours ago, so, by my estimation, sometime in the second inning?

Madrigal showing that 77th percentile sprint speed running off the field.

It might technically be a day game, but at this rate the Chicago-based fans are still going to be up past midnight.
