08/15: Astros at Sox. 7:10, NBCSN4K, NBCSN+ (es); FS1

This team doesn't fucking deserve Johnny Cueto -
I understand the hesitance to label Moncada lazy or a bad attitude player -- it's generally a reflexive response by sports radio fans who have nowhere close to enough insight into the team to justify those labels. That said, I posted a conversation into the gamethread on Saturday where Steve Stone pretty much put this debate to rest in my opinion (copy/pasting): Based on the tone, situation, and words, it was very clear that Stone was calling out Moncada for not working hard. For anyone who wants to go back and watch, this happened during the Moncada's at-bat in the top of the 5th inning. Look, I agree that fans who want to look at Moncada's facial expressions and judge him as lazy are being unfair. But Stone has insight into the team, and there's been rumors that the team is unhappy with Yoan. At a certain point, there's enough smoke to conclude there is fire here. (or that there isn't fire I guess, since that's the whole issue)

Moncada was up. Len was talking about how seeing a low BA on the board can hurt you mentally, and Stoney goes off on a "tangent" that hard work pays off most of the time, mentions that "the key is to put in the hard work." He shouts out Abreu as a guy who puts in the hard work, then says that if you don't put in the work you are doing yourself a disservice. Finally, with the camera still on Moncada: "And there are a few guys -- *long pause as he obviously realizes what he is about to say* -- and this is not just on the white sox, this is all teams in the league, but there are a few guys who don't leave it out on the field every night, that is just the reality of this game." *silence* Len: "5th inning, brought to you by...."

Kansas City Raiders vs Oakland Chiefs would be a hilarious rivalry. -
Who cares, that's never stopped us before

2022 Chicago White Sox: Your crazy ex from college Abusive, horrible for your mental health, not even fun to be around really, but every time you finally decide to quit it she gets dolled up, flashes the bedroom eyes, and takes 3 out of 4 from the Twins.

I really love what the Sox have done in the first ten rounds. Shultz -- Was in contention to be a top-15 pick before mono Pallette -- Was in contention to be a top-10 pick, some thought maybe even a shot at 1-1, before TJ Cannon -- Was in contention to be a first round pick before mono Sprinkle -- Was in contention to be a first round pick and the top SS taken before some swing changes messed up his offense There is an alternate reality where all four of these guys were off the board before the Sox even picked at 26. As an Alabama alum I might have preferred Prielipp over Shultz, but he fell pretty far so I wonder if there are concerns about his medicals. Either way, hard to complain about the upside in this draft.

Well, as the kids would say, he's going to be running up that hill, be running up that building.

7/15 Sox @ Twinkies 7:10PM Can we get to .500????

Kopech seems like he is going through a dead-arm period (or maybe it is still because of his knee, idk), which makes sense considering he has already thrown more innings this year (78) than the last two years combined (69 in 2021, 0 in 2020). If we want him around (and pitching well) for the playoffs he will need to take a break soon. After the all-star break we open the second half with a four game series (with a DH) vs Cleveland. After that, there is a month and a half stretch until September 2nd where we only have three games against the Guardians and none against the Twins, vs 3 against Cleveland and 9 (!) against the Twins from September 2nd through the end of the season. I think Kopech should pitch today on a short leash, then pitch on long rest (7-10 days) in one of those four games against Cleveland. Then they should IL him with arm fatigue until one of the September 2nd-4th games against the Twins and let him finish out the season. That would probably leave him at about 110-120 IP entering (hopefully) the post-season. -

What a weird coincidence, I was also named after the Impala, my parents named me Vlad. -
Eloy wasn't truly back until he made you hold your breath as he awkwardly sprinted toward his near-certain doom to catch a ball in foul territory

It's nice to see that other managers are also blowing games by being addicted to a terrible pitcher. Sometimes its easy to forget that not all the awful decisions are uniquely TLR, some of them are just the run of the mill BS that it seems 25 other managers also do on a regular basis.

We're talking about anal, so I believe it's actually referred to as "Tossing the Salad"

Y2: Arbitration Day -
This is as done as I've ever heard Jason. Just openly questioning and criticizing TLR, and a hawk esque pause when Jose walked a guy after giving up the game. ".... SOooo........."

So he liked his second PA enough to bat him leadoff today, but not enough to let him play at all yesterday? I'm 100% convinced this is a middle finger to Rick Hahn. Honestly, that's preferable to just more blatant incompetence too.

SOX GT 6/24 - BEGINNING OF A 3 GAME WIN STREAK

This is the exact conversation we need, and the exact conversation that can never happen, because Jerry hired his BFF at manager and made him Rick's de facto boss. -
Sosa has been a slow starter at every level so far (in part because he has been young for each level), and now he's making far and away the biggest jump yet. In his first month at each level, he OPSed .456 at Kannapolis, .580 at W-S, and .625ish at Birmingham. He also has a new swing that is only 60 games old. Certainly there will be some kinks to iron out in the new approach, and major league scouts and pitchers will be ready to find and exploit those holes way faster and more aggressively than AA pitchers. I could see this guy being a stud 2B for us by the end of 2023. But the evidence says this first trip to the majors could be rough, and I think the board will turn on him by week 2 if he is playing every day.
