  1. The McStans jinxed the hell out of his defense
  2. It doesn't come up much but I think this is exactly a scenario where the 3-batter rule made a difference. Last year I think Fry is in to face Rosario, then Colome for Sano and the rest of the game whether its still the 8th or the 9th. But now, if Fry didn't get Rosario he'd have to face Sano and Buxton, so Colome comes out instead.
  3. dumbass has got nothing better to do right now
  4. Marshall has not thrown since Monday so I am pretty surprised he's not in but Heuer looks fantastic right now so LFG
  5. So now the question becomes, who are we giving the ball to with the job of getting the game to Colome?
  6. My favorite part of the singing fan videos during the 7th inning stretch are the clips where you can clearly tell that one party really wanted to do this and one party really really did not lol
  7. Wow this game is a fucking emotional roller coaster.
  8. Maeda has been one of the best SPs in the MLB this year and was only at 80 pitches through 5, but his manager pulled him before the 6th because he got a bit shaky and the top of the order was coming up for the third time. Reynaldo was so bad he got optioned to Schaumburg, but because he was only at 80 pitches through 5, his manager left him in to start the 6th despite getting a bit shaky and the top of the order was coming up for the third time. Really emphasizes the differences between the two managers.
  9. This is why it is so important to replace Mazara and EE with at least average players (EE's recent bomb not withstanding). People here often talk about how this lineup can survive having a couple of black holes, and when everyone is right, that is true. But with two constant "slumps," all it takes is another 2 or 3 players slumping at once for the lineup to just go dead. The likelihood of really bad offesnive stretches goes way up when you punt on 2/9 batters.
  10. While my real dream is a trade for Whit Merrifield, I think I'd be happy to bring Brantley in on a 1-2 year contract. He would be a perfect bridge to Cespedes (if we sign him)
  11. 1) Lol great timing 2) They only wanted 1 SP (wanted to give Cease, Kopech, and Reylo their shots since this was before we knew Kopech was out). 3) Between DK and Maeda, I think they liked bringing in a lefty, and also Maeda's injury history probably scared them off. We know they are pretty conservative on bringing in FA pitchers because of injury risks, and they already had a glass arm in Rodon on the roster.
  12. Maybe they, like us, saw they won the first two and had Gio/DK going the next two and got a touch complacent. Or maybe its just baseball being a random ass sport. You could talk me into either one tbh.
  13. Robert's last 2 weeks: 150/255/225 and a 37% K rate. Ouch ?
  14. Genuinely not trying to be a prick, but what do you even mean by dangerous then? Grandal has more homeruns (in less at bats), higher slugging, lower K rate.... The only thing Moncada has done better so far is hit doubles. Moncada has definitely missed a ton of pitches to hit this season too. Next year, after he heals up, Moncada is definitely more dangerous, I just don't see what the justification is this year.
  15. I get people are frustrated but this is just incorrect. Moncada is slashing 248/341/395 this season. Grandal is slashing 237/363/412. I understand the frustration watching him watch fastballs down the pipe, but he has been more dangerous than Moncada this season, and his patient approach has helped the Sox put huge pitch counts on the opposing SPs in the first inning lately.
  16. Even as a joke ("joke") this is fucking gross. Delete this, log off, and do some critical self-examination.
  17. I've posted this in a few places now but it is so relevant to this thread I'll post it again here. This is what Tim has to do (depending on how many ABs he has left this season) to finish at or above .400 ______________ | ABs | Hits | -------------- | 40 | 20 | | 41 | 21 | | 42 | 21 | | 43 | 21 | | 44 | 22 | | 45 | 22 | | 46 | 23 | | 47 | 23 | | 48 | 23 | | 49 | 24 | | 50 | 24 | | 51 | 25 | | 52 | 25 | | 53 | 25 | | 54 | 26 | | 55 | 26 | | 56 | 27 | | 57 | 27 | | 58 | 27 | | 59 | 28 | | 60 | 28 | ______________
  18. Just want to say that many of us called this when the expanded playoffs was announced for this season. I even said that in a vacuum I was fine with it for 2020 but I was against it because it wasn't going to go away. The owners are nothing if not predictable - if it makes them more money, they'll do it. They might not do it right away if its bad for the sport, but they'll always get there in the end.
  19. I've said it before but for Luis Robert - Eric Davis (at least in Robert's early years). Gold glove center fielder with practically unheard of speed/power combo, but with some contact & strike out issues that can make him a bit inconsistent. Davis maybe had a bit less power, a bit better eye, but it is pretty close. I am a Robert believer, so I think he can make a Moncada level leap and fix those contact & K issues and break into a stratosphere where there are no good comps left. But if he doesn't, or at least until he does, I think Robert is basically the second coming of Eric Davis. (By the way, in 1987 Eric Davis won a Gold Glove in CF while slashing 293/399/593 for an OPS+ of 155. Oh yeah, and he stole 50 bases in 56 attempts. It was an 8 WAR season and he finished NINTH in MVP voting. His 86-89 years are incredibly underappreciated.)
  20. I think its actually the opposite problem that is bigger. Most teams that are out of the playoffs by July chose to be. This year, 7/8 playoff teams had a 95+% playoff odds by the midpoint of the season. It works because of 60 games, but it will suck when the last 70 games of a marathon season don't matter because playoffs are all but a lock. On that note, another reason I hate the expanded playoffs is because it has made me realize how few fans value a division championship. Many fans here have been saying the remaining games don't matter once we clinch the playoff spot. At least with normal playoffs those fans still care about the division because it is the most common way into the playoffs. I think it was fine for this season but I (probably futilely) hope that we go back to the old playoff system in 2021. Can you imagine how intense this September would be if MIN/CLE/CWS were fighting for one playoff spot and maybe a play-in game spot, instead of just seeding that isn't even necessarily better for the top seeds anyway?
  21. The dream scenario - win tomorrow and make the Twins watch us celebrate a playoff spot. Then win enough in Cleveland to make them watch us celebrate a division crown. Ooooh I'm getting tingly just thinking about it.
