  1. lol I've never seen someone so aggressive towards a person they are actually agreeing with
  2. Its a small thing but I enjoy that Jason actually acknowledges when a player can be clearly heard swearing
  3. Where can I find a prop bet for "will we see Eloy's belly button?"
  4. He did, but most of his at-bats (and especially his defense) have looked really poor
  5. Ok same thing that inning but like 20% Reylo and 80% Royals
  6. I know Gio went from worst to first, but he did it by making a massive overhaul of his mechanics. ReyLo has flashed amazing stuff in a couple of games but shit, Dylan Covey looked like a Cy Young candidate in a couple of games too. Its baseball, shit happens. Its clear at this point that unless ReyLo is ready to try something as drastic as Gio its time to move on, he's been stagnant for over a year now.
  7. Yeah, the proper response to Mendick playing well isn't "bury Madrigal" but "give Moncada a much needed IL stay"
  8. Nice job ReyLo but escaping that inning was like 15% Jose, 25% Reylo, and 60% Royals being both bad and stupid
  9. Good thing the Sox crush lefties because I think we're gonna need to score quite a few runs today
  10. I did not expect to click on this thread and actually end up excited but here we are.
  11. How can you possibly argue that the White Sox are both legit contenders this year and not going to be a perennial playoff team as we improve over the next few years lol. I even agree with you that TOR arms are the key but that is why you keep Kopech, he is one of the few we have that still has a chance to hit that level. We have probably a 2-5% chance of a ring this year. Adding Lynn makes that maybe 5-8%? That is not enough to sacrifice Kopech or Madrigal (though I am someone who thinks Dunning + Stiever might be worth it) EDIT: SS2k beat me to it but with actual numbers lol. 538 also has us at 2% for those who like ELO
  12. The Yankees, Astros, and Twins fans wouldn't care much about winning the division if it leads to just an early playoff exit. But for teams like the As, the Rays, and our White Sox, winning the division would be huge. I'm tired of watching Cleveland celebrate winning the division. I was already tired of watching the fucking Twins celebrate winning the division before they even took the crown last year. Every single team in the division has won the division crown more recently than us. I definitely care about us winning the division and you should too.
  13. If Bauer sticks to his "1 year contracts only" pledge, I actually think he is one of the few pitchers JR would pay for. Up to a point, I don't think it is the AAV that puts off JR, I think he is terrified of being locked into a long, expensive contract for a player whose arm may fall off at any point. He views it as too risky of an investment (perhaps in part because it is such an opposite concept from how real estate investment works?)
  14. Local boy too! I went to high school with Tauchman (didn't know him).
  15. There are a lot of great mentor/protege relationships where the mentor helps bring out great things in the protege. Only in the rarest and greatest cases, though, do you see the protege have an equally profound effect on the mentor. Jason and Stone have this sort of relationship, and while I've always known Stoney was great, Jason has helped me realize that the guy is a bonafide baseball genius. If you ever doubt how close the two are, just go listen to Stone's "Why don't you take this one partner" to Jason, telling him to drive for the final out in the no hitter. These two have incredible chemistry.
  16. Would you rather have a player slashing 253/305/400 (93 OPS+) or 267/319/413 (97). The first is Danny Mendick before todays game and the latter is 2018 Yolmer Sanchez. Mendick is a fantastic back up to have but I think he may be exposed if you actually rely on him as a full time starter.
  17. Personally, I'd have to think long and hard about this. If you think Dunning and Stiever have a ceiling of a number 3, I do this. You usually have multiple options in FA every year to sign a #3 starter. But you (probably) need #1s and #2s to win playoff games, and it is so so hard to get those guys. Gio, Lynn, Dallas, and sometimes whichever young pitcher is throwing best is a FAR better playoff rotation for this year and next, and Lynn is cheap enough that you can still sign a decent SP free agent this winter if you want. Also, Lynn being signed through 2021 is perfect because that gives us just enough time to find out if we can replace him internally with Cease, Kopech, or Crochet. EDIT: And obviously you don't do this trade if you think Lynn is a mirage, but clearly I don't
  18. Totally agree, but I will cut some announcers some slack. Obviously the tradition is very important to the players, and I think that is why former players turned announcers often carry that superstition with them to the booth. Still, so refreshing to hear the PbP guy acknowledge and elucidate the significance of the moment as it grew closer and closer.
  19. After we win the Series in 6, Dancing for Dubs should be to Don't Stop Believing for the ultimate Sox crossover
  20. Yeah someone backs out of the pile as he tries to come in, they collide and he falls off balance. That someone is number 23... Edwin Encarnacion. That's right, the Sox could have avoided this by calling up Andrew Vaughn
  21. I've never heard an announcer who sounded as nervous as the pitcher looked lol. I wouldn't want it that way every time, but it was perfect tonight, really made me feel the nerves too
  22. Thank god the celebration wasn't close to any of the netting, they'd still be cutting him lose
  23. No way to prove it, but I genuinely believe Mazara doesn't get to that one too. That was a tricky ball, cutting and diving, and required a perfect first step and decent speed to avoid a hail mary diving effort
