  1. After our off day today, we have 2 against PIT, an off day, then 3 vs KC and 3 vs MIN: Giolito is throwing tomorrow, followed by Dallas on Wednesday. Presumably, the plan is then ReyLo (and GioG again?) on Friday, Cease on Saturday, and then it gets interesting. Based on the team's comments when they sent down Dane Dunning, I think the plan is to use the second offday to skip the 5th starter. Therefore Giolito would throw Sunday. However, this means he misses MIN, and we put Dallas, ReyLo, and Cease against them. Personally, I would have kept Dane up and had him throw his spot against KC, then had Gio go against the Twins. Even though that is not an option anymore, I still would like to see the pitchers adjusted to get both Gio and Dallas against the Twins. With offdays on either side of PIT I think you could do a bullpen day on one of those games, or separate Reylo and GioG and give them each a start against KC. Lucas has struggled against the twins, but he's our number 1, and I don't like that we are possibly having him miss the Twins when options were available.
  2. This was my initial reaction too, but to play devil's advocate a bit: Would he really be missing any actual development if we treat him as a September call up in a year with no minor league play anyway? Getting him into the major league dugout for a few weeks and even just 10-20 ABs may be just as useful as playing scrimmages in Schaumburg throughout September. And hey, if he looks good in a few pinch hitting situations early, you can always expand his role.
  3. Realism aside, I think I'd rather have Madrigal's production at the rookie minimum for the next 3 years then have Boegarts production and his contract. Need money for RF and SP. And that is even before you talk about what other talent we would have to send.
  4. I know Mazara is "only" 25 but his also in his 5th full year in the bigs. He's had over 2000 ABs. This is not a guy going through a sophomore slump, and even at his age 4 straight years of identical stats is pretty close to "he is what he is" territory
  5. Sucks that we lost.... but man, fun ending to a fun series. 2/3 in Wrigley with one absolute embarrassment of the Cubs, I'll take that every time!

  7. We've been wanting the same guys all weekend because he keeps not putting those guys in so they are still rested and ready to go each time we go over this
  8. Personally, I don't think I would have pulled him after Baez anyway, but the fact that it wasn't even an option because RR didn't even have anyone up in the pen until after the Schwarber home run (according to the broadcast anyway) is just so fucking typical of his managing and I hate it
  9. Massive kudos to Cease for working out of the jam his defense put him in last inning, but Ricky needs to have a guy warming up right now, just in case. You don't have to use him, but at least give yourself the option to be ready at any time. Don't be caught sleeping here please.
  10. The one Jason described yes, but only because he left out BY FAR the most important ingredient: A BAC in the neighborhood of Tim Anderson's batting average
  11. Anyone watching the Cubs broadcast? I'm curious what their take was on the replay review and Contreras out
  12. Honestly, fuck off man. I normally find your schtick somewhat amusing but you're accusing a leader of your own team who is making history right now of taking steroids. With all sincerity, GTFO of here until you can unfuck your head.
  13. Right, and the couple of times we've seen that curve peek out lately have been nasty, so IMO it was definitely a negative move.
  14. Did it? His success came from a change in mechanics, and most of his struggles since then can be traced to the fact that he is essentially a two pitch pitcher on some days
  15. Oh he's on something alright. ON A 7 GAME WIN STREAK b****ES
  16. No but I'm not just going to comment every at-bat "Guys I still wouldn't pull him here" 30 times a game. Classic selection bias
  17. Ugh if I'm going to spend 5 hours watching this game we better find a way to win it
  18. Well thank god Happ said fuck instead of b****, we wouldn't have been able to handle it otherwise
  19. This ump's zone is bigger than Don Cooper's gut and ReyLo still is walking dudes on 4 and 5 pitches
