  1. No, I love that he is a good framer, but to me the biggest values he provides are power from the left side and working walks. I want his bat in the lineup as much as possible. McCann and Grandal both seem to be pretty good defensively, although they get there in very different ways. Keep Grandal's bat fresh, keep them catching around 60/40, and keep DHing Grandal.
  2. I'd take my time walking Santana here and bring in someone from the bullpen
  3. How many times have we heard this already? This is just the BSOHL story for Eloy (and Tim) and I am at the same point for both of them - they can talk all they want but I won't believe it until I see it now
  4. You seem like a nice guy, but I really hate how often you have had to be posting so far this season ?
  5. I'm about to be dropping some Roll Tides in the game thread ?
  6. You are never going to convince me that all these injuries are not related to the short spring training. Not necessarily because it is true, but because, for my sanity, I need something or someone to blame, and that seems to be one of the few jobs Rob Manfred is qualified for. Great for the Sox to get the win and redeem the night though!
  7. Well, I think we can all certainly agree on that part.
  8. Let's ignore that RR is probably not going anywhere, and pretend he was fired. Perhaps I am just so prospect obsessed at this point that I even want to see a managerial prospect break spring camp with the team, but I really do like the idea of Jirschele getting the job. A lot of the key, young players know him, he's been successful at both winning and developing talent in his minor league jobs so far, and he would finally be a WS manager that embraces the modern aspects of baseball analysis. However, giving the keys of a contender over to 30 year old AA manager is definitely a risk. In my dream world, JJ is the manager next year, but they somehow convince a former manager like Ron Washington to come on as 3rd base coach to mentor JJ and offset his lack of experience (and maybe handle any personalities that don't want to follow a leader 5-10 years their junior at first).
  9. Isn't coming out and saying concretely that your previous lead off hitter will for sure be returning to lead off when he returns from injury the complete opposite of having "launched a lineup controversy"? Pretty sure he put the controversy to rest.
  10. I actually thought it was pretty fair. They gushed about a lot of his tools, but the swing and whiff criticisms are fair, and we've definitely seen the last couple of games how they can severely limit his impact. They said that "opinions widely varied" specifically about "heading into 2019" - i.e., coming off his up and down year where he missed a lot of time due to injury. Opinions at that point DID vary widely, but became uniform (other than FG ofc) after his breakout 2019 season, which they note in the very next sentence: "Those opinions got considerably more uniform after a breakout season that saw Robert tap into his power."
  11. JFC we went from winning 6 straight to looking like we'll need a player's only meeting tomorrow, get your fucking heads in the game
  12. The netting fiasco was hilarious and embarrassing but its really the route he took that makes me want to move him to DH immediately
  13. So weird to think of that Yelich at bat as a missed opportunity....
  14. Not sure how they could be tbh. Trading anything of note for a rental when we don't even know if the season will finish would be pretty dumb. And it will be tough to trade for a quality player signed through 2021+ because any prospect/young player that we would include as a centerpiece are probably valued higher by the Sox than any other trade partner (Madrigal, Kopech, Vaughn, mayyyybe Dunning/Stiever in a smaller trade). Basically all of our tradeable assets already have a clear need on the 2021-2022 Sox that they need to address, so trading them to fill one hole would just open another.
  15. I have no problem with snark or jokes in general, but usually they come either because: 1) We are in game thread and just saw a player screw up so we joke about it or 2) The post/stats/etc we are responding to have direct relevance to the snark I think the problem here is there is just a massive dissonance between what your posts are responding to (hype quote on robert, table showing 3 WS in top 11 of WAR) , and the content of your comments. I'm not going to post a clip of a LuBomb with a comment of "This dude is gonna strike out 300 times." It doesn't land as a joke, it just comes off as sour, or purposely looking for negative things to get worked up about. Just my 2c. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  16. Every time I watch Colome I think "There is no way he can continue being successful like this." And then he continues being successful like this. So credit where credit is due, when it comes to the only stat that matters (leaving the 9th with a win), Colome has been nails for us. But there is no way he can continue being successful like this........
  17. AGAIN - 3 young White Sox in the top 11 of this leader board and THAT is your takeaway? Snark about Eloy's defense???
  18. They should give Ozzie the Don Cherry treatment (before the controversies lol). Give him a 3-5 minute segment each night to go wild, entertaining the meatballs and going viral every so often, but then let the pros handle the rest of the night.
  19. That inning hurt. I thought Robert's had a chance, but Moncada's especially looked like a HR off the bat. It is probably good for my health that Gamel couldn't hear the things I insinuated about him after he caught the third out.
  20. Grandal was a huge add because of this, but there is a difference between "seeing pitches" and "not striking out." Madrigal does the latter, not the former, mainly by making contact so early that he doesn't have a chance to strike out. I think in the regular season this is a viable approach and can still produce a great offense. I am worried the nature of playoffs makes it much more exploitable there.
  21. It may work for players individually, but the batting approach of this team may be a real issue for them down the line. When they run into a good SP, they never can get them out early, or even on time, because they see so few pitches. In the regular season you can eat the occasional loses and be fine, but in the playoffs, especially with the extra rest, you are facing an All Star caliber SP 40-60% of the time, and if you are letting those SPs go deep, that also means you are only facing the best bullpen guys. As you get deep in the playoffs, those best bullpen guys quickly become unhittable bullpen guys. Not really sure if there is a way to fix it at this point either. Most of our position players are locked in for years now, and it seems tough for all of them to switch their approach en masse (and risky, since the approach obviously works for a lot of these guys)
  22. I just went back and watched all 5 Robert walks: two came after going down 0-2, one after being down 1-2. For a rookie, that is such an impressive ability to battle back and lay off the strike out pitches.
