  1. Officer Phillips from the Grammar Police Department reporting in with additional violations: Constant improper use of the 3 forms of the word "there". "There" is a place, such as I'm going over there. "Their" is a possessive, such as their house. And the last one is the most common error: "They're" is a contraction for "they are", such as they're coming. It's hardly ever used correctly--most people use the other versions when this is the correct one. Another frequent misuse is "to" instead of "too" when used in place of the word also. I know a lot of you guys hate these grammar police comments, and you will probably b**** about it, but if you're going to post something, nothing wrong with doing it correctly.
  2. Pretty optimistic. I'm assuming you're not expecting Colome, Abreu, or Garcia to be traded prior to the deadline.
  3. Then you should also wonder how Nova, Lopez, and Banuelos are drawing a paycheck. Their ERA's are all higher than Homer's. In Banuelos' case, much higher.
  4. Again, the point of the story was that Williams overreacted. Rauch should have been disciplined only. That's it. Not removed from the team.
  5. The point of the story was to show the over-reaction on the part of Williams. I'm sure Williams didn't stop and think, "I can do this because Rauch will have only a 6 WAR in the next 11 years"
  6. I remember this Rauch story when he was with the Sox. He got pissed off one game that he was taken out after the 5th inning. So he showered and left the ballpark. Ken Williams, trying to kill a fly with a sledgehammer, reacted in typical fashion for him. Instead of disciplining the kid with a fine/suspension, he immediately released him. Rauch had some productive years as a relief pitcher that could have been with the Sox if not for the hotheaded Williams.
  7. As of now, I would say he is the #2 starter. His ERA is 4.58 after today's start. The 3 Clowns that make up the rest of the rotation have ERA's of 6.24, 6.62, and 7.36.
  8. And yet he leads the AL in RBI's and has the 4th most home runs.
  9. Pitcher should have jumped up and down with glee and flipped his glove in the air after striking out Anderson with the bases loaded and no outs. If that happened, I wonder what Anderson would have done?
  10. Covey has an ERA of 4.73, second only to Giolito. For some reason, people on here prefer the guys with ERA's in the 6's and 7's.
  11. Highest bullpen ERA of all 30 teams. So we got that going for us.
  12. How cute: the name of the town is also good dental advice.
  13. The latest mock drafts have Abrams slipping to #6, so this could be a moot point. Unless, of course Williams overrides prevailing opinion and selects him anyway at #3. It would be like Williams to do something stupid like that.
  14. It's not just him. A lot of these guys are like that. I swear if you were able to take a brain scan of some of these guys at the plate, you would get "crickets". No awareness of count advantage , game situation, what's working/not working for the pitcher, etc. It's " see ball, try to hit ball".
  15. LOL. I thought the same thing. "Dinger" would have worked.
  16. He better watch it. If he ever gets to .200, Renteria will bat him 9th.
  17. Does anyone think that if Cease comes up soon, all of this talk about moving Colome becomes moot and the Sox will actually try to win as many games as they can this year? Just asking.
  18. Upon further review, I agree. (see my comment regarding Braves trade partner)
  19. The Braves would be an EXCELLENT trade partner. They won their division last year and want to go deeper in the playoffs this year. They have an excellent starting lineup with several utility players that could start for a lot of teams. Pitching wise, their strength is SP. They literally have 8 starting pitchers on their MLB roster, 3 of which have to be used in the bullpen for obvious reasons. Any one of those 3 pitchers would be #2 in the Sox rotation. Their one Achilles tendon: no reliable closer. They also have a top 5 farm system, if they want to go the prospect route. A top 50 prospect would not be out of the question.
  20. A story in MLB.com said that there were scouts from 5 or 6 teams looking at Colome this week. Competition is good to drive up the price. I would think the best offer (if it is a prospect) would be in the 50-100 range
  21. Back from where? He's been below the Mendoza Line all season, though he has flirted with the high .180's from time to time.
  22. I wonder about the clubhouse atmosphere. On the one hand, you have players that are doing their best to win every game. On the other, you have a manager that, by his nonsensical decisions, is playing the tanking game.
  23. Another reason is that he came cheap. Why spend good money on a quality manager when you are in the middle of a rebuild? You do what the Cubs did--let him manage until the team is ready to compete. Then bring in a good manager.
