And That's a White Sox Winner !!
bubba phillips replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If not for that error, Covey would have had a Quality Start. I know it's a minor item, but it would have been a nice feather in his cap, given all of his struggles. -
I agree. Last year's 100 losses should be the low point of the rebuild. While not competitive this year, I would expect an improvement to 70-72 wins and at least a .500 record in 2020. Somebody mentioned that rebuilds aren't linear. But by the same token, we're not going from a 100 losses to a 100 wins in a year either. Progress needs to be made every year for the reasons Lip indicated above.

That's all fine and dandy. But very flimsy in the way of accountability. What is considered a successful rebuild? WS championship? WS appearance? Post-season appearance? Competitiveness in the AL Central? What's a reasonable timetable? Is it 3-5 years? Up to 8 years? Open-ended? These sort of generalities would never work in the normal business world. Give me some concrete goals and timelines so that I can judge your success or failure.

Two hits today for Alonso. If he gets 2 hits the next game, he'll be flirting with the Mendoza Line.
-
Don't we already have one at 3B? Mr. "I never met a runner that I couldn't wave around".
-
Luckily, this one doesn't hurt the team.
-
I don't get it. People can throw the F-bomb around left and right on this sight. But you can't say "b****"? Makes no sense to me.

What an incredible Jekyll-Hyde team. The Mariners started the year 13-2. They are 8-21 since then.
-
Another quality start for Lopez. That makes 5 QS's out of his last 6 starts. Yet his ERA is 5.58. That's because in his other starts, his ERA is 11.78. Ouch! To paraphrase an old fairy tale: "when he was good, he was very, very good. But when he was bad, he was awful". Let's hope Mr. Awful is kept to a minimum.

Yea, the Yankees just put their 17th guy on the IL today. In the case of the Sox, I'm sure Williams-Hahn will use the large number of injuries as an excuse to extend the 3-5 year rebuild to 3-8 years.

And that’s a Pretty in Pink White Sox Winner....

Is it sad because he doesn't give him any credit or is it sad because Cooper had nothing to do with it? -

Nice 9th inning by Bummer. Looks like Renteria has noticed that Bummer had yet to give up a run this year (now at 9 IP). Looks like RR is going to use him in game situations in the late innings. A word of caution: isn't this exactly the way Fry started out last year before he fell apart? Hopefully, history doesn't repeat itself. -

Second consecutive quality start by Giolito. This follows Nova's 2nd consecutive QS yesterday. Lopez has QS's in 3 of his last 4 starts. Things are certainly looking up. With Rodon out, these guys are now our Big Three, at least for the time being. Between the 3 of them, they have 11 of the team's 14 quality starts (Rodon has the other 3). For the "Debbie downers"/trolls out there: 8 of the 11 QS's have been against the bottom 3 teams in runs scored (Toronto, Cleveland, and Detroit). Hopefully the good starting pitching continues as the schedule eventually ramps up to better hitting teams. -

Hmm, I believe there's a separate Moncada thread out there with 92 pages of comments. No need to waste 2 pages of this game thread with more stuff about him. -
That might be the first time all year that the same starter has put together consecutive QS's.

I know people don't want both catchers in the same game for a number of reasons. Here's an alternative: can McCann play 1B? It's not like you need to be a wiz with the mitt (Exhibit 1--Abreu). Got to have his bat in the lineup most every day. Alternate between C and 1B. Abreu would continue to alternate between 1B and DH. Just a thought. I know it's still 2 catchers in the lineup, but at least you don't lose the DH if something happens. Bonus: Alonso is out of the lineup.

Of the 10,386 statistics that baseball likes to keep, is one of them "% successful on sacrifice hits (sacrifice bunts)? It would be interesting to see where the Sox rank. Regarding bunting in general, I think the consensus of the group appears to be that it does have a place in the game in the appropriate game situation. Just not all the damn time like Renteria likes to do.

you forgot Williams
-
Oops! My error. I misread a stat line. I thought his ERA with the Sox was in the mid 5's. Sorry.
-
Former White Sox "phenom". I remember when he first started in the organization. He plowed through 4 levels of MiLB in one season before the Sox called him up. I thought for sure he was going to be a star. Then Williams traded him for someone named Edwin Jackson, who was a total bust with the Sox. Hudson had a bunch of injuries that stifled his career. But he's still around and has a decent career ERA of 3.98. Still a crappy trade by Williams that would have been a lot more one-sided if Hudson would have stayed healthy.

Sox vs Indians 12:10 CST Banuelos vs Carrasco

This series is another fine example of the importance of good pitching. Cleveland came into this series next to last in the AL in runs scored. And they got a paltry 11 runs in 4 games against a horrid White Sox pitching staff that is next to last in the AL in ERA (not to mention countless other runs due to a "defense" that is also next to last in the AL in errors). Not to mention numerous runs that are technically earned because our players make countless misplays that are not charged as errors. They got a split because Cleveland is 3rd in the league with a 3.75 ERA (ours is a nasty 5.35). After an aberration in the first game when the Sox miraculously scored 9 runs against one of the top pitchers in the AL, we managed only 5 runs in the last 3 games. -

Yea, a guy who acts in a professional manner instead of a showboating clown is a real clubhouse cancer. -
A .180 hitter and Renteria has him batting cleanup most of the time.
-
It's one thing to be aggressive, but quite another to be stupid about it. Capra ALWAYS waves the runners around, being totally oblivious to the game situation.

A lot more fun than the last 3 games against Boston.
