17 games under .500 this season is a hell of an improvement over the 38 games under .500 last year. Also, it sounds a lot better when your win total is in the 70's and the losses are in the 80's; it sounds like you're getting close to .500. -
Absolutely right. If you go under the assumption than every free agent will sign with the highest bidder (not unreasonable), the chances that the Sox get the 7 or 8 players they need (2 SP, 3 RP, C, DH, RF) are pretty remote. There will be too many teams competing with us, thereby driving up the price. A trade or 2 involving prospects may need to be made. P.S. I hope we learned our lesson with the Machado fiasco and quit the crap with incentives when other teams are offering guaranteed money.

That's about the 15th time this season that someone has said that. I guess he must be pretty bad at it.

Anybody think that what the NBA has done to discourage tanking (i.e. a lottery system) would work (or even be allowed by the Players' Union)?
-
So the Sox should have absolutely no problem next year in making up the 30 games that they are behind the Twins this year?
-
I believe that is now 6 games that have been postponed against Detroit this season. That must be some sort of record for rainouts against one team in a season.
-
And you think the Sox would have picked Benintendi if they had the 7th pick? Based on their draft history , I’m not so sure.
-
Another crappy outing by Fulmer. Does any team in MLB have as many pitchers with ERA's over 6.00 as the Sox? Incredible.
-
Oh boy, vigilantes!!?
-
AMEN, brother. Screw the tankers. This rebuild is progressing very nicely thus far and will bear even more fruit next year and the years after. The difference between getting the 9th versus the 11th draft pick next year is of minimal importance. Let's wrap up the season on a high note and win as many as we can.

Nice Daily Double. Unlikely win considering we started Detwiler against a team fighting for a Wild Card berth. That's 7 more wins than last year with a good chance to make that double digits by the end of the season. Regarding the Cubs: when they won it all in 2016 (much to our chagrin), many in the national media were forecasting a dynasty. At least multiple WS appearances for the next several years. Actual result: none in the last 3 years and not even a playoff appearance this year. That's another example of how ridiculous it is that some people here think that when the Sox rebuild is complete, we will have multiple WS appearances. The realistic goal is multiple playoff appearances.

Anyone notice that Engel has his batting average up to a career-high .248? It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Sox put the need for another outfielder on the backburner and address other critical needs first. I can see them viewing the 2020 outfield as: Jimenez, Robert, and Engel. Engel has speed and is an excellent defensive outfielder. Sure he has very little power but we don't need any more butchers in the outfield. One is more than enough. I wouldn't put it past the FO to take this viewpoint.

The only "bubble" that Covey should be on is the one he creates when he farts in the bathtub. No way he should be on the 40-man---options or not. If you want him for AAA depth, I'm sure he'll be available as a free agent.
-
Yes WE could. The more wins the better. This rebuild does not hinge on whether we pick 7th or 11th in next year's draft. However, our record that indicates the progress we made from last year, could influence whether a FA wants to sign with us or with a team that has a better chance to make the post-season (assuming the money is comparable).

And That's an Unexpected White Sox Winner !

I haven't seen those words in print since the 60's when Jerome Holtzman was a Chicago sportswriter. Nice. -

If you didn't know the White Sox record and I told you they had the following players in the AL: # 1 and #5 hitters in Batting Average # 1 in RBI #6 in starters' ERA #5 in saves Would you believe that this a team that is 20 games below .500? -

Two replies after a greatly unexpected win? Apparently the tankers have taken over this board. Too bad for you guys. Sox win!!! Sox win!!! -
Why LOL? The plan was that this is a bullpen game. Nova was to start and pitch one inning rather than throw a bullpen session, which he would normally do today.
-
It can be done but it's tough to add 9 points to a BA this late in the season. He'd have to hit .364 in the remaining 11 games.
-
Even a blind squirrel can pitch a good inning once in a while.

In the last 3 series, the Sox lost 2 of 3 games to the LA Angels, Kansas City, and Seattle. Teams that are 14, 40, and 26 games below .500. The Sox are now a season low 19 games under .500. The scary part is that we are at this point even though Giolito, Anderson, and Moncada have had fantastic seasons and Jimenez has already made a huge impact. McCann had an excellent 1st half and Marshall, Bummer, and Colome have been very good out of the bullpen. Will they be this good again next year? I know we've got Robert and Madrigal coming up next year and a few pitchers back from TJ surgery, But is that enough to make up the huge chasm between us and Minnesota and Cleveland (21-26 games behind them in the standings)? That's why it's paramount that Hahn step out of character and not screw up any FA signings.
