Not bad for a soon to be 90-loss team.

Don't you know? It's because metrics show that he can't play defense and is a bad base runner. HR's and RBI don't count. -

How rare is it to have a (soon to be) 90-loss team have two .300 hitters in their lineup? -

By comparison, The Atlanta Braves won their division in Year 3 of their rebuild and are a lot better this year. -

Now that you mention it, we did have a weird lineup out there today. The first 5 batters had a cumulative BA of .287, with the first 2 guys batting over .300. The bottom 4 had a cumulative BA of 2.17, with 2 guys batter under .100. -

So we lose the season series 9 games to 10 to a putrid Kansas City team. Yet we win the season series 4-3 against 2 potential World Series teams--Houston and the Yankees. I guess teams just play down to their level of competition. Just ask the Astros and Yankees. -

In 2 of his last 3 starts, he has given up 1 hit in 14 innings. -

Pretty nice 3-4-5 in the batting order: 79 HR's amongst them. 95 if you count Anderson in the 2-hole. -
Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox

For a guy who has averaged over 30 HR's and 100 RBI over the 5 years he has played at least 140 games, he sure doesn't get a lot of love. I don't remember anyone getting so much grief. The chewing tobacco thing is especially idiotic. Every see the size of the chaw Nellie Fox had in his face all the time? Yea, it might be illegal in Chicago now, but is it hurting anyone? Are people suffering from "second hand juice" when he spits? -
Once again, our starters give up multiple runs in the first 2 innings. How many times has that happened, putting us in an early hole? Luckily, Nova recovered nicely and was a third of an inning short of having a QS. I think that's about the 3rd time he's done that. Wade Miley of the Astros has taken the "bad early" thing to a new level. In his last 2 starts, he's given up a total of 12 earned runs, while pitching a total of one-third of an inning. That's an ERA of 324.00

And he shouldn't be tired---he's missed 36 games, for various reasons.

Could the White Sox hire Dave Dombrowski?
bubba phillips replied to gusguyman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Exactly right. Getting the players you need is not like going grocery shopping---just go down the aisles and grab a SP, RP, RF, DH, C, whatever you need. Especially in the Sox case, where 8-10 players off the 25 man roster will need to be replaced. -
I know it's a meaningless win so far as the standings go. And many of you are hating wins this year for the sake of a better draft pick next year. However, I think it's important that the Sox get as many wins as they can this year (irrespective of the draft pick). First, it shows that the rebuild bottomed out in Year 2 at 100 losses. We're on the road to being competitive for a playoff birth, maybe even next year. Secondly, it shows potential free agents that the rebuild is starting to succeed and makes being a White Sox player more attractive (than being on another 100 loss team). Third, it's good for fan morale, as we're sick and tired of all this losing.

9/8 | LAAAAAA @ Sox | Barria vs Cease | 1:10pm

I think what the Sox are doing is letting some of these guys play themselves off the 40-man roster. This way the Sox will be comfortable in knowing that there is no doubt that they will never be any good. This applies to current players Skole, Palka, Detwiler, Covey, and Osich. I believe it is also applied to former players Alonso, Reed, and Rondon. -

Ricky missing next series for rotator cuff surgery
bubba phillips replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm surprised that Capra doesn't need the surgery, with his constant waving the runners around 3B to their ultimate demise at home plate. -
Great game by Lopez, a one-hitter where the only hit was a misplayed fly ball. Do we have anybody that can actually play defense in the OF besides Engel? Anyway, we match last year's win total of 62. Thus, it appears that the rebuild bottomed out in Year 2 at 100 losses. It's all uphill now. Contending for a playoff spot in Year 4?
-
I think a couple of recent awful starts are clouding people's views of Lopez and portraying him as undependable and inconsistent. In his last 11 games, Lopez has an ERA of 3.38. If you exclude the horrid Atlanta game, which appears to be an outlier, his ERA is 2.56. He's been more than acceptable since the ASG.

Personally, I like the .163 OPS -
Assuming the Sox play all 162 games, Anderson can miss about 5 games and still qualify.
-
I think he's still one short. He's at 427, needs to be at 428 (138 games X 3.1 = 427.8)
-
We might have tons of issues, but converting save opportunities is not one of them. We are 3rd in the AL at 71.05%, with only 11 blown saves in 38 opportunities. The obvious problem: not enough opportunities. The Yankees have 23 blown saves, but they've had 72 opportunities. The Bosox are last in the league at horrid 50% effective, having blown 27 out of 54 chances.
