  1. Soon to be a season low 17 games below .500, but we'll be competing for a playoff spot next season. No problem.
  2. So the answer is ZERO. A little tricky with Washington. The original team was the Senators and they go back to 1901 like the Sox. They were equally incompetent as the Sox. In fact the old joke was: Washington---1st in war, 1st in peace, and last in the American League. They are now the Twins so they surpassed the Sox.
  3. But how many of them have been around as long as the Sox?
  4. Maybe a wild card, and only if the required record is reasonable, like 84-86 wins. Otherwise, I can't see us making up the ground to pass Minnesota and Cleveland next year. Remember, we not only have to get substantially better, the Twins and Indians also need to get substantially worse.
  5. One of my favorites of the new stats is exit velocity. A home run is a home run whether it's a bullet that splinters a seat in the 1st row at Yankee Stadium, 308 feet away or a lazy fly fall that drifts into the bleachers 400 feet away. BTW, when GM's are looking to trade for an outfielder, how many of them say "Hey, we gotta get this guy. He was 3rd in the league in exit velo in the 9 HR's that he hit."?
  6. Only 5th most K's in MLB. We do lead all of MLB with the fewest walks, however.
  7. Who are these smart baseball minds of which you speak? Surely no one on the White Sox.
  8. I'm taking a "Parkman" for this one. With the constant complaints on this board about how slow Jay was, a couple of weeks ago, I suggested that since he was on the IL for so long with the hip injury, that maybe it didn't heal completely. This resulted in his lack of movement and speed. (He still sucked with the bat, however).
  9. Silver Lining Dept: with the 2 beatdowns the last 2 games, the Big 3 Bullpen Guys (Marshall, Bummer, Colome) were not used and will be fresh for the Atlanta series.
  10. I see that Minnesota SS Polanco had a couple of "Andersons" today.
  11. God forbid that one of our rookies should hit the ground running like the countless times we've seen it done by players on other teams.
  12. Then they must hide the juiced balls when our guys come to bat.
  13. We know. The Sox are 28th in MLB in fielding. And that doesn't include the constant butchered plays that didn't result in an actual error being charged.
  14. Bad game? Bad Game? That's 24 errors in 98 games played, including 4 in the last 4 games.
  15. Odds are agin' us in this one. Their best pitcher against our worst pitcher. We've scored 3 runs total in the last 3 games. In other words, we could win.
  16. Unfortunately, that's the norm. We're next to last in runs scored---only Detroit, the worst team in baseball has scored fewer runs.
  17. We win 2-0, our 2nd shutout win in the last 5 games (and 3rd shutout played in that span). We take 3 of 4 from a poor Texas team. On the other hand, they have a better record than we do, so maybe we're making progress. Not pretty the last 2 games: 5 errors (3 of them by Anderson) and 1-21 with runners in scoring position. Hey, you can't have everything.
  18. It's MLB-wide this weekend. They will all be burned after today's games.
  19. At 59-69, the Sox are just 3 wins shy of last year's total. The rebuild is well on its way. If you discount the horrid stretch immediately after the ASG, when the Sox lost 16 of 20 games, they have a record 55-53 in all the other games---that's two-thirds of the season playing better than .500 ball!!.
  20. I'm not a Jay fan by any means, but I don't remember him being this slow in prior years when he played elsewhere. Remember, the reason he was on the IL for most of the season was due to a bad hip injury. I wonder if it just never completely healed and/or it healed but he'll never return to where he was prior to the injury. Just a thought.
  21. Not going to happen for 2 reasons: 1.) Renteria works cheap, and 2.) Reinsdorf won't pay good money for a real manager because he feels managers don't make that much of a difference, a fact that has been attributed to him on several occasions.
