After the horrid 7 game losing streak to start the 2nd half when the pitching was horrific, the staff did an exceptional job over the weekend. Allowed 7 runs in 3 games. After Tampa scored in each of the first 2 innings on Friday, they scored in only 2 other innings of the next 26 in the series. That's some pitching. If not for the one bad pitch by Cease for the grand slam, we might have swept them. Let's hope the good pitching continues for a while. We can use a good home stand. P.S. Before the series, I predicted we would get swept. So glad to be wrong.

Yarbrough 60 pitches through 5 innings. That's CG potential if we don't start doing something.

That's what she said.

pronounced "might" for those reading out loud.

Tired, shmired. Their starting pitchers for this series were unaffected. Plus, they have the #1 pitching staff in the AL, while we have one of the worst hitting teams in the league. And we're on the road. Hate to say it, but I think the losing streak goes to 10 by the end of the weekend. Hope I'm wrong.

A better rule would be: just like in football, an offense and a defense. Under this rule, he would never bat.

This is the part of the program when someone comes in and says, " Rebuilds are not linear. You don't go from 60 to 70 to 80 wins, etc."

The ball is juiced. The MLB record for most HR's in a season is on pace to be shattered. But our man Tilson has 2 HR's in 79 total games (Sox and Charlotte). And in the field, he injures future stars. Good call on the send down.

Batting average means nothing. The important stat is Runs Scored. Theoretically, you can have 6 hits in an inning, and not score a run and your batting average for the inning would be 1.000.

Before the 1st game of this series, someone posted that we need to sweep these pathetic bums. He was right----except we're the pathetic bums. Lose 4 in a row to a team that was 30 games below .500 at the All-Star break. Nice. Very. Nice.

Nice breath of fresh air. I know it won't last and he's not part of the future (maybe not even the rest of the year). But it's nice to see someone get off to a great start. I've had enough of the Alonso, Collins, and Reed fiascos.

Don't forget he was on the IL for 4 months with a bad hip. Maybe it's not totally healed, might never be the same again, and/or he is being cautious with it so as not to aggravate it. I would cut him some slack. -
Not going to win many games when you score 5 runs in 3 games. However, today should have been a win, but our crap defense gave it away with 2 unearned runs. Damn shame when you have the rarity of a well pitched game and nothing to show for it. Encouraged by the Lopez effort. After his lousy outing just before the All-Star break, he said in an interview with MLB.com that we will see a different Reynaldo in the 2nd half. He said he knows what he needs to work on. Hope he's right. So far, so good.

About every other time Jimenez comes to bat, someone is predicting a homer.
-
Voodoo nothing. Sox just showing why they have the second worst fielding team in the AL. Nothing but stone hands all around the field.
-
He's now 4 for his last 7. Now that he's passed the .200 point in his BA, look out.

7/13 GT - Sox @ OAK - 3:07 PM CST

At least he flip-flopped Jay and Jimenez. Renteria must have read the 3 or 4 comments from last night regarding some people's displeasure that Jay was batting 5th and Jimenez 6th. -
If we're talking about Alonso (not Palka), the Rockies need to pay Alonso only the pro-rated portion of the league minimum. The Sox still are on the hook for the remainder of the $9 million (less what the Rockies pay).
-
League minimum this year is $555,000. Last year it was $545,000. Palka got a slight bump for those 27 HR's.
