  1. I haven't heard his name pronounced, only seen it in print. Is it Robert or "Row-bear"?
  2. Wow!!! A comment about Reed on a thread supposedly about Reed.
  3. Nice story on "Get Up!" this morning on this whole thing. Great PR for the Sox from the national media. Question was raised why has this not been done by all 30 teams.
  4. Strange. I thought this thread was about Reed, not Collins.
  5. I'm not saying Reed will amount to anything, but I wouldn't dismiss him solely for the reason that he's fat. Look at Pablo Sandival of the Giants. Always been fat. He's 5'11 and 268 lbs. At age 32, he's batting .288 with 11 HR's and 33 RBI's thus far and plays an acceptable 3B. Not spectacular numbers, but OK.
  6. Excerpt from the MLBTradeRumors story: There’s little reason for the Sox not to give Reed a look, however. given his recent prospect pedigree and the potential long-term opening at first/DH. Apparently they think that it's too early to give the 1B job to Vaughn in the near future.
  7. Say that you had known that Nova and Giolito would each pitch 2 games against the Cubs. What would have been the chances that Nova would throw 2 great games and Giolito would be the one to get bombed in both of his?
  8. By the time of the 1st game after the All Star break, Bummer will have pitched ONCE IN THE LAST SEVEN DAYS. His arm will be OK.
  9. Strange game, this baseball. Detroit is last in all of MLB in runs scored, averaging a paltry 3.5 runs per game. So against this stellar White Sox pitching staff, they scored 22 runs in 3 games. Yet the Sox won 2 of the 3 games. Go figure.
  10. Hell, I wouldn't even allow him in the ballpark as a paying customer.
  11. Yes, our very shrewd and unappreciated manager. This was Renteria's plan all along. Because the good pieces of our bullpen were way overused in yesterday's DH, Renteria wanted to make sure that today's game got way out of hand, so that he could use the bullpen scrubs and give Marshall, Bummer, and Colome 2 days of rest.
  12. What's that old saying: "even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while" ?
  13. I realize Renteria's obsession with the whole lefty/righty thing. But if Rondon must play, why the hell is he batting 6th? The 7-8-9 hitters all have batting averages at least 50 points higher than Rondon. Shouldn't your worst hitter (by far) be batting 9th, ala pitchers in the NL?
  14. I don't think so. The postseason is a crap shoot. Any one of the 10 teams can go all the way. Case in point: a 116-win Seattle team didn't even make it to the World Series several years ago and in another year, an 83-win St. Louis team won the World Series. The best that you can expect to do after a successful rebuild (which the Sox will be) is to make the postseason most every year for several years. Once you're in, anything can happen. The Cubs have been in the postseason every year since their rebuild concluded. (This from a Cubs Hater)
  15. Story on MLB said Hahn will move the kid in a couple more games to one of the class A teams.
  16. Neither do I. QS tonight. ERA of 3.27 after his first 2 starts. Would have left the game with the score tied if Moncada hadn't cost him 2 runs with that error.
  17. That would be a good number for a slugger (84 Lumber).
  18. I don't understand why Collins doesn't DH more, either. After all, he would be in compliance with Renteria Rule #103: in at least 50% of games, the DH shall be a player whose batting average MUST be in the .190's or lower. If, or when, a player's average should break the .200 threshold, said player would then either: 1.) assume a position on the field, or 2.) be relegated to sit on the bench.
  19. I don't either. The bullpen for the last 3 games: 12 earned runs in 10 innings. Ouch! Asking them to give up no more than 1 run in 4 innings (assuming we don't score again) is probably beyond their capacity.
  20. Why not is right. Alonso was in the .170's and .180's his entire time here.
  21. For those who thought that Cease shouldn't be brought up because of his 4.66 ERA in AAA: Minnesota's starter today is making his MLB debut after 14 starts this year in AAA where his ERA was 5.71!!!.
  22. But seriously folks, similar to Lopez, Nova produces a QS in almost half his starts. Let's hope this is one of those starts.
  23. One sliver of hope for the Sox: Minnesota played an 18 inning game at home yesterday, using 9 relief pitchers. They could be a wee bit tired. Of course with Berrios going for them tonight, it might not matter. BTW, our buddy Avisail Garcia went 0 for 8 in that game for Tampa. Is that a "double horse collar" ?
  24. Probably brings back too many bad memories and constant reminders of "The Trade".
