Is everyone assuming at this point that 40% of the rotation is going to be cobbled together from 4-5 different guys over the course of the season? On a team with WS aspirations? That’s the plan? The thought of that just brings back nightmares of Ozzie’s whole DH-by-committee extravaganza.....
-
How does a guy who hasn’t thrown over 120 innings in 4 years solve the need for innings in the back end of the rotation? Everyone talks about “bridge to Kopech” but then what also happens when Cease hits 130-140 innings or so?

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)

Just dawned on me: let’s assume for a minute that the “it’s a business” argument holds water. If that’s the case, and a decade ago you were top ten payroll and now you’re middle of the pack, what does that say about the way you managed your “business” relative to your competitors? -

My kingdom for an owner that: a - knows how to build an organization b - give a fuck

But there’s some stiff competition. -

No. But so is Jerry, and he can’t even pitch. -
Since you used the Rays as your example, no, it comes down to whether the organization has the ABILITY to determine if a FA is good or not, and does so CORRECTLY. Rays, Sox, not equal.

Sox expected to be a "little bolder financially" than most

But will Tony think it’s sincere? -
Three thoughts: 1 - There was an article recently about how Scandinavians survive their long, dark winters. One of the things they do is get outside every day, all winter. Something about the power of fresh air. Remember, there's no bad weather, only bad clothes! 2 - Take this time to learn new things. Ask yourself every night "what have I learned today". Write down a plan for what you intend to learn each week. Charlie Munger talks about going to bed every day smarter than when he woke up. 3 - This is the most important BY FAR : figure out things to do for others. Helping, giving, etc. etc. The worst thing you can do is focus on yourself and how bad Covid winter is. Focusing on others is the best way to get past that.

You're right. Just like last winter when they weren't kidding we got the best RF for the job. Silly me.

There's about 5 different things in this comment that make me uncomfortable. I don't like the way this is heading.

Three things: 1- Tex is, to a large degree, misunderstood on Soxtalk 2- the first paragraph is so comically true I almost had Ninja vs Unicorn coming out my nose (if you don't know what that is go to the beer thread). (And shame on you) 3- third paragraph: true dat

Don't care one bit. It's just baseball. Much more serious things in life to worry about.

This should so be a thing

The irony with masks is that the people that place energizing the economy above all else are, more often than not, the same subset that resists doing the one thing that will help stop the virus and therefore open the economy.

Realistic trade candidates AKA The Lynnsanity Thread

Assuming the return would be worth it in either case (you define what that means), would you rather trade Cease or Dunning? -
Admitting I have a terrible lack of understanding on monetary policy, can someone give me a fed policy for dummies on: - what exactly happened this week? - what is the argument for it? - what is the argument against it? thanks

1- Simple supply and demand. The market is flooded with easy loans. The universities are more than happy to take the money. 2- Parents have lost all ability to tell there kids “no, we can’t afford it”. (Because they cant tell themselves that). Believe me, I know, I live in Naperville, the epicenter of people not being able to tell their kids no. When parents are willing to spend then you have to put in the climbing wall and the dorm suites in order to attract the money or the money will go elsewhere
