KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap
KiwiSox replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Both Harper and Machado would've gladly signed with the White Sox if they were offered enough money. -
Think of it this way: if the Red Sox looked at Moncada and thought they couldn't develop his potential what on earth would give you any hope he even stays above water under the tutelage of the White Sox?

Eloy maybe but the rest of them aren't good enough to warrant this type of thinking. -
I don't think there ever was much talent with Moncada. He can't hit major league pitching. If there was ever a flaw you don't want a guy to have that's it. I don't see it getting better with him and I think the Red Sox knew it was a serious likelihood that his poor hitting skills won't kill him in the majors. The Sox had better deals on the table but their shitty scouting did the equivalent of googling "best mlb prospects 2016" then took the deal that looked best according to that. The Eaton trade I grant a pass on, because Eaton was stupidly overrated. Even more stupidly overrated than the over hyped pitchers they got in that trade.

I was expecting a lot worse while I was waiting for that link to load. -
Why you should not want Reinsdorf to sell the SOX
KiwiSox replied to 59th street's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know if we want an amoral, depraved member of some rentier states royal family running the team. Even if it means spending dough left and right. -
The trades weren't even that great. I love the Quintana and Kahnle deals but man...they got absolutely hosed in the Sale trade and the Eaton deal wasn't much better. The Red Sox fed the Sox a bunch of overrated garbage, Nationals the same but at least Eaton isn't a surefire Hall of Famer.

Yeah it's basically worst case scenario. I thought they just weren't being public but the truth is they were out in the first week of December. -
There is no hope for the Chicago White Sox (the thread?)

We are in the realm of fantasy when we compare Yoan Moncada to one of the greatest baseball players of all time. -
The NBA is kind of a bullshit league where unless you're absolutely amazing what's the point in even trying to win. The Bulls are a nightmare but being a nightmare is simply a necessary evil. That said some of the things Garpax do are totally stupid... Sox on the other hand have no excuse. You can't even say they are trying to lose since there's no real benefit to that strategy, especially if you're drafting is as bad as the Sox drafting. They just suck.

On what planet are Luis Robert or Yoan Moncada elite? One never plays and the other can't hit. It's cool to be fans and all but this is a little delusional. It's like saying your 1999 Ford Taurus is really worth $100k instead of $500. -
I dont know man Fournette has just not been that great at all in Jacksonville. Really I'd rather have Howard overall but they are buying in on Fournette thinking he can realize some of that potential that made him 1.4. And of course they have two more years of Fournette vs. one more year of Howard.
-
How would you feel about a Fournette for Howard swap?

Moncada cannot hit the baseball. -
I implore you all to make an honest appraisal of the current 25-man roster and minor leagues. It is terrible. The Sox have one piece of bonafide elite talent to show for trading away hall of fame pitcher, another elite lefty on a wildly team friendly deal and a good outfielder on cheap contract plus five years of high draft picks and years of massive payroll flexibility. They traded away the best prospect in baseball for nothing. Once Eloy comes up they will have maybe a middle-third system, but really more realistically its bottom third. No elite talent, all their most intriguing guys never stay healthy and the pitching situation is almost impossibly dire. They havent hit on a draft pick yet, despite routinely picking in the top ten. They have nobody on the major league squad worth a damn. They have one player in the minors worth a damn. They cant sign free agents. They cant draft. They have been fleeced in all but one trade they have made. There is absolutely no hope for this franchise.

Bears got a franchise QB on a rookie contract while the 49ers are stuck with Solomon Thomas and had to make a separate deal for Jimmy G who is making ludicrous money to be one day hopefully what Trubisky already is.
-
He is absolutely correct. Gruden gets such a bad rap but what he is building in Oakland has the potential to be really scary in only a few years. MacKenzie was such a bad drafter, other than Mack and Carr its been really bad. They are going to be aggressive with trades is my guess.

I'd rather they suck than not be in Chicago. -
They are three, maybe four, deep at CB. I like Toliver II a lot and so do the Bears. Losing Callahan will bite but the reason he is walking is because he is quite expendable with what they have already. There rest is fine.
-
Where would they be paper thin? OL probably, but I have a feeling that's where they are going to attack with their draft picks. They could use one more WR and probably another RB but I wouldn't call those situations critical. Everywhere else they are loaded.
-
Bears situation is not that desperate though. They just lack draft picks.
-
They aren't out.

It is odd how a country on the permanent precipise of a full-blown race war takes time to police and shame people over minor langauge while here there is literally no hate between Anglo Kiwis and Māori yet it's totally acceptable to call your coworker a gay, retarded c***. One of the things you realize after getting away.
-
If you aren't getting better in the NFL, you're getting worse. Bears have to be aggressive finding ways to get better and S is one of the few positions where there are clear upgrades available.
-
Bears could match what the Colts offer and I'd think the Pagano and Jackson factor could be a tiebreaker in the Bears favor. Really all the Bears would have to do is meet the demands of Collins, these things get done quickly in the NFL. Bears ask Collins what the wants, then they talk with their cap people and see how it fits with the rest of the off-season plans. If it can work they call Collins people back and say let's make a deal and if it can't work then both parties move on. It won't be a four month nightmare.
