  1. Looks like Frazier and 2-3 of their top pitching prospects in their top 5 but not Jasson. In Sox speak that’s Madrigal (not here because they have DJ), one of the big 3 and Stiever/Heuer. We can’t do that but signing an $8 million #4 ain’t getting it done. Avoid the top 3 and go get someone. Understand it’s gonna cost 3-4 guys though if you won’t give your best. Time to make the tough decisions since we won’t spend anymore
  2. So if the Yankees trade an MLB OF, and 2-3 of their top 5 prospects for Luis Castillo are we still feeling good? I’m glad Jerry isn’t ok with second place in the division anymore but second place in the league stinks just as bad.......
  3. If it's what it takes, give him 10 and incentives. Look at the rest of the FA pool besides Bauer. If we aren't making a trade, value side with the most upside this is it!
  4. But the Sox aren't going to head toward that tax number THIS YEAR anyway. If they sign someone for longer than that at DH it could be a problem with all of the extensions they have done the last couple of years adding more to the payroll come 2022-23 and the hopes of getting Gio an extension before this year starts.
  5. I'm not sure on this either. Speaking Metrically, Richards doesn't do anything special, so I don't get it. Besides Kluber, where is a FA with any upside other than Bauer? Maybe Kevin Gausman at about $10 million? If the asking price is through the roof like the Burnes deal mentioned above, I guess we go into the season with ????? at 4 and 5......after you revisit Musgrove again
  6. True. I was just going off the 4 names most mentioned lately but I agree that would be a slick trade even more so.....I'm wondering what that takes.....would it be much less???
  7. I love having talks like this. You make me really think about stuff. Of the 4 guys mentioned in trade talks for a package like this (Gray, Castillo, Burnes, Woodruff), who available in free agency not named Trevor Bauer comes with the current success or upside of any of these 4? There aren't any unless I'm totally boneheading it (which I may be:)). Just as an example here are comparisons metric wise to guys available: Jose Quintana - Cole Hamels, Eric Lauer, Ross Detwiler - of 13 categories they measure, he is above 50% in 2, BB% and barrel Garrett Richards - German Marquez, Zack Wheeler (excellent velocity and spin.....maybe, but what is the price when average schmucks are getting $10-$12 million?) Now on the other hand: Corbin Burnes - Yu Darvish, Walker Beuhler, Zack Wheeler - in the RED in 11 of 13 categories Sonny Gray - Red in 12 of 13 categories Luis Castillo - 12 of 13 Brandon Woodruff 12 of 13 That's why when you can get guys like this for $5 million on down for 3-4 years in my opinion you give up bats that are not elite, relievers, and SP you don't know about because you have a plethora of them. I honestly look forward to your rebuttal because I think this is fun! To me, the Sox still have about $20-$25 million they may "safely" spend. If it takes $12 million to get an ok #4 we aren't getting much else of value. If we make a trade for a guy like these, all of a sudden you have another $15 million to get a legit bat (or maybe only $7-$8 million if you sign LaStella IF they trade Madrigal). I for one am for this plan
  8. So not paying any attention to the overall quality a team with a horrible farm system, just what # prospects they are is like comparing the Padres system to the Cubs system right now. The Cubs could trade their top 3 prospects and it wouldn't be as good as 3 guys from San Diego's 11-20. That's why we use that quality to build. What irreplaceable part are we losing? Who in that group has All Star / MVP caliber upside? That's why I keep scratching my head.......
  9. Really? Which of those 4 guys coming from us was a #1 overall prospect right now? Moncada was the #1 prospect in the game and Kopech was top 30. Madrigal is at #36 and no others to be found. Maybe if you are talking about 4 players being similar but that's where the similarities end. Burnes isn't Sale but these names aren't those either
  10. Maybe even it's one of those talks where it's, "Hey we are interested in Burnes, here's a package." "Nope, we aren't trading Burnes but maybe Woodruff?". Question, if Milwaukee says, take out Madrigal and replace with Kelley and we have a deal for Burnes (Kelley, Heuer, Stiever, Sheets) do you pull the trigger? I still would as it's a place we have depth, but honestly even with Madrigal you are offering Milwaukee 3 of your top 10 prospects / MLB ready types. I think there would be quite a few teams willing to listen from that buffet of choices
  11. Really? Who is quality in FA that isn’t going to command at least $15 million per? Q or Paxton whose metrics have been falling the last couple years? Richards possibly but what if a bidding war happens? I continue to be surprised by the people that think 2 question marks in your rotation is fine heading into the season. I don’t want to throw away 1 season of the window playing what if. The Bears do enough of that for this city:)
  12. Are we going to start being Bulls fans when they didn't want to trade Deng in a deal for Kobe? Seriously, I know none of these guys are that guy like Kobe was but for the love being content with signing an aging #4 starter and assuming that your kids are going to be ready for primetime this year isn't a good idea. Nick Madrigal is a nice player and I like him, but dropping 10-15 million on an eh #4 starter and a questionable 5 hole on a championship caliber team isn't busting the window open, it's cracking it open barely and hoping we get a breeze. Pitching wins titles. If our scouting has decided that they can get a #3 or above caliber starter for the 3 guys that keep being mentioned, you do it. The day after you do it, you sign LaStella or Wong and take the extra money you have and wait until the trade deadline or bargain shop for a DH in about 2 weeks. Going into last year, it seems like the Sox always find 1-2 new quality arms for the pen from their system. It's a machine. Take advantage of it. You have tons of SP in your system. Go get the freaking MLB quality pitcher and let's go win now. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. A move with those 3 guys leaves you zero glaring holes. Rant over. Have a super night and go Sox!
  13. I'm laughing at the Red Sox fans on Twitter thinking they are getting Gray ++ from Cincy for Benintendi. Don't have the heart to tell them that price ship has sailed:). LOL
  14. Agreed and I'm thinking it comes from that list you have. You trade from your depth to upgrade and open up more funds if needed at trade deadline
  15. Here comes the cost controlled 4th starter........or if it's LaStella does that mean Madrigal's days are numbered......???
  16. Any chance they could get creative again with Bauer......like 2 years $50 million with a 3rd year option team option of $50 million or a $40 million buyout (over 20 years). Indirectly offering him $90 million for 2 years........trying to figure out a way to get him here:)
  17. Just as an FYI, head to a metrics site and check out some of the player comparsions: Alex Colome - Daniel Norris, Tyler Beede, Tyler Mahle Liam Hendriks - Gerrit Cole, Justin Verlander, Ken Giles Gotta use ore than baseball card stats to see value
  18. I see the Sox payroll for 2021 is at $121 million. Trade for a cheap SP with control (the above mentioned) put you at $125, sign LaStella at around 2/$14 and a one year DH at $10-$15 and you are at $145 million. It's doable.....unless a certain pitcher is willing to sign a 1 or 2 year deal and maybe get financially creative again RH?????
  19. I would be looking at Woodruff, Burnes, or Castillo(all have a min of 3 years of control) with no fillers (extra contracts being taken back). To be honest I'd be willing to move Cease, Kelley, and Madrigal for one of those guys. Think about it. You have a rotation of Gio, Lynn, Keuchel, one of the above 3, and Kopech/Crotchet as your rotation for the next 3 years or so? Blow this window wide open and go for it. Teams that think they are going to stay at the top for 8-10 years end up with nothing. You get your top notch starter, Jerry doesn't drop another $30 million, you sign LaStella, problem solved. Commence my beating for trading too much;)
  20. Agreed this is much closer. I had thought between 17-20 gets it done as we are getting two years of FA. If you look at similar contracts (Snell and Nola) our per year is significantly more. It’s fair
  21. 3 inning eaters as starters. One more starter. With this much bullpen depth they seriously could have #4 and 5 go 5 and just leaving it to the pen
  22. And that's the question. So if we won 1 sometime between 2021-2023 and then it was busted up, you'd be good? Because in looking at contracts, in 2023 if you sign Bauer at $35 million, you have $175 million in payroll assuming Vaughn is playing first, one of our Cuban sensations is playing right (and the other is Dh'ing?), two of our kids are SP. Your bullpen is Hendriks, Bummer, Fry and a bunch of min guys and we still don't have a full roster. I'm not sure if this window lasts longer than 2 years doing it. While I agree that if you said we would win it in the next couple years I would be tempted, that's a really short window
  23. I guess my question would be IF we would do something non-White Sox and offer him 5/$175. Are we content with what that probably means for the immediate future? Rotation for 2021 - Gio, Bauer, Lynn, Keuchel, Cease/Kopech Lynn is gone after this year and you now are hoping that a combo of Cease/Kopech/Crochet is your #4-5 moving ahead because you don't have another $20 million to extend Lynn Bats are probably all coming from in house for the forseeable future because the payroll is going to be right at $200 million with raises on extensions and a Gio extension. I personally am not comfortable with this and think it gives zero flexibility moving ahead. 2 years at $65 million? Maybe.......
  24. Love the idea, but I'm thinking Hendriks ($12 - $13 million) and Gray ($10.7) will be less than Bauer (if you believe he wants $35 million). I don't see the Sox spending more than another $25 million this offseason and they probably still want one more bat.
