White Sox are still a World Series Contender
RagahRagah replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The difference is Yankees fans aren't desperate for "championship windows" and good development and coaching. The Yankees have a lengthy history of making stars, winning championships and always being in the playoff picture. You have to understand how this affects people's thoughts on their team, whether we are better this year or not (and it still remains to be seen!). -

That feeling would be a bit different if we won a division every few years or so. It's a little different when you seem to do nothing but lose. In that case enjoyment fades. -

Actual insight, analysis and breakdown is worth something. Unlike, frankly, most of the posts I've seen you make in this thread which is just sheer complaining without contributing much of anything. -

Point is it does get harder. I'm tired of seasons like 2007 and would like more seasons like 2005, or even 2008. -

Good for you. Eventually most fans would like to see wins. And blind optimism seems odd in the face of being used to mediocrity and worse. -

Can you do it year after year after year? -

Calling out people for "overworrying" about injuries when one of our best hitters suffered a likely season ending injury before the season even started seems like a strange position to take. We have no depth. I understand some people being annoyed by constant pessimism but excessive optimism or lack of realism is just as annoying. People insisting on being optimistic just for the sake of it are puzzling. At least our concerns are valid. When you have to literally use, "Well, *insert best case scenario here* COULD happen!" as a pick up you are just proving our point. It's easier to accept something as it is than pray for it to be something it's not very likely to be. This team is still going to have a lot of problems, Eloy's injury ASIDE, even. -
White Sox were expected to sign Juan Soto
RagahRagah replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hell, if you wanna entertain the idea of Bryant there as well. Go nuts! Hell, Eaton could still easily and happily be our starting RF with a lineup that insane. -

Hell, if we are gonna drown our sorrows and entertain "what could have been scenarios (which is awesome for The Show fantasy roster construction!), let's really just go all out. Tatis SS Soto LF Abreu 1B Anderson 2B Jimenez DH Robert CF Moncada 3B Grandal C Anyone, who TF cares RF Not only is that obviously fucking nuts but I'm not even sure that is the best composition; hell, you could probably shuffle it almost any way you want it and it would be insane. Then, If you consider the potential that Soto could have been brought up and extended the same way the rest of our core has via Hahn, then just imagine the possibility to still land Harper (fantasy scenario if our team actually had an owner who wanted to win) or even someone like Ozuna to plug in RF, which gives our DH more versatility to switch spots to rest the everyday RFer if needed during a pennant race and rely less on bench guys. Man, it might take a while for this erection to go away. -

More fodder for my future Show 21 fantasy Sox rosters. Swell! -

And it's a very good one. Perhaps. The bigger question is would they have stayed here long term? Sadly, I think the answer to that one is likely very easy. -
ELOY HURT! (3/25 Update: Torn Pectoral Tendon, Out 5-6 months))

I feel like the only person who would be super cool with Engel as a starter. -

That is a seriously depressing list of options. -
Petition to Move Eloy to DH Permanently
RagahRagah replied to YourWhatHurts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I definitely understand the rationale of people who don't want to move Eloy to DH too early in his career and the reasons why, but I think at this point you have to seriously consider it, regardless of potential issues and alternatives because this just simply cannot continue. I have no interest simply waiting for the star piece of one of our best trades to become the OF version of Mark Prior when we can do something to prevent it, especially during our supposed championship window. And after this injury he may never be the same regardless. We have no depth and can't afford injuries like this and we haven't even started the season yet. -

I didn't say all, I just said I took ridicule for it, which I did. A lot. No need for this. -

What's crazy is that with all the ridicule I took for being pessimistic about this year, the one obvious potential danger I didn't list on my bullet points of things to be worried about... is the one that happened. Before the season even starts. Kinda numb, don't know whether to yell or laugh at the absurdity. -
Acquiring Colas and Cespedes is what for me has made this offseason exciting.

I think one of the main problems is that the sox typically don't work well with the "on paper" thing. I also think Cleveland will still be a thorn on our side. On the plus side, we are slightly improved and as much as I am not a fan of La Russa I think we will fare much better with him as the manager.

I understand some minor changes to try to speed up the game or make it fairer but once you start with one thing you end up going down a slippery slope and it turns into a clusterfuck. See: the current state of the NFL.

Indeed we are. Because pointing out where people's arguments are flawed is in no way horseshit. And it happens in virtually every thread, including ones I don't post in.

Sure seemed like it. IIRC originally you responded to me. If not then cool beans. And to be fair you've been pretty cool.
