If I have to try and be an optimist, this would definitely fit in with the "stealth mode" idea. If they want people to believe they're out they would definitely feed that to the mouth piece that is Bob Nightengale.

top 300? man, this just makes it the perfect situation for the White Sox to be for Bryce Harper what the Padres were for Machado. Give him the 330ish over 10 that he wants and END it. He's worth that and more to the White Sox. That being said, it makes too much sense for it to happen.

I know it's a Longshot after today, but what are the chances the plan all along was to sign both and if one didn't bite on the smaller offer they'd go all I on the other? Even if they did sign both at smaller than market deals it would have been 500mm. Rabbit seems to think they thought signing both was possible. If they were willing to spend 500mm on two why not 350 mm on 1?

That's the thing with this tweet by rabbt. If he believed they were willing to pony up for both, even if it was at their reduced price it would have been a minimum of 500 million. If they were willing to do that, why wouldn't they be willing to pony up 350mm for harper? It's hard to believe after today, but maybe the plan all along was to try and get both and if one doesn't bite on the smaller deal go all in on the other?

if they're willing to go 350 million total to machado, turn around and guarantee that amount to the bigger fish.
