If Cease is such a simple fix...the stuff is there. And honestly...the need for overspending in FA is basically gone as they have to put faith in Kopech being a long term piece as well. The Lynn trade makes much more sense if they expect results from those two now and going forward. I am skeptical but everything shown here seems reasonable and repeatable. If Lopez gets 2 more MPH on that fastball...long reliever is solved as well for 2021.

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)

Scherzer is off the books after this year. It actually makes perfect sense. I would put them as the dark horse for sure. -
The Marlins also have the Dodgers, Padres, Mets and Braves FAR ahead of them reaching the world series. Who is blocking the Sox? The Yankees and maybe the Rays?

Not sure if it's been mentioned...but why not just make him the #5 freaking starter in MLB THIS season. (Make Lopez the 2-3 inning guy on his start days) Keep him on an innings count and Kopech replaces him in July

Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers

He absolutely has the budget. The POS is paying otto porter 28 million to come off the bench. F JR if they don't sign one of Bauer or Hendriks -

With Mets most likely out with lindor/carrasco and needing a CF...what are suitors still? Padres. Out Blue jays. Maybe Angels. For sure. Anyone else realistically? Could he be had for 3/90 at this point? Suitors are disappearing fast. -
Mets Reportedly Acquire Lindor/Carrasco (Passan Reporting)

Next...need Cruz to sign elsewhere and sign a closer and the window of central dominance is HERE. -
For sure. Also...you also have a new coach and a new pitching coach that will have to navigate the personnel. Radically altering your three best pitchers cadence probably isn't the way to kick off that new coaching relationship.

I think Grandal needs a set plan for Cease specifically to implement Katz analytics. I like Yaz a lot, but I did notice some pitch call discrepancies throughout the season. I think the two of them need to find that rhythm and not be so predictable. Cease let Grandal call a lot of his pitches early in the season. Not sure how that changed over the course of the year, but hopefully Katz and Yaz really can guide him this year. He reminds me of Garland in a lot of ways....but with so much better stuff.

La Pantera Giolito Eloy TA7 Kopech (I'm basing this on future expectations and his marketable good looks)

They are. Go back 5 years pre all her plastic surgery and 500 dollar hair dye...quite a different story. -

he isn't signing ANYWHERE if he is asking for 5 or 6 years at 36-40mm a year. I worried about his new agent...that she was going to be hyper aggressive to make a name for herself and ultimately fall flat. If he thinks he is getting 200 mil contract...he has ZERO takers this season on that. -
Seeking MORE than 5/$150 million...Good luck dude. Now Sox quickly moving on makes a ton of sense. Hahn called up, agent said it's gonna take $150 to move to next phase and Hahn put on some lipstick and crossed Springers name off his kill list.

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
EloyJenkins replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is why I F'ing hate MLB Free Agency. In the NBA and NFL every major FA is signed within a 2 week period. None of these 3 month windows. It's comical how cheap MLB ownership is as a whole. -
Good deal for the Starting RF of 50% of Sox games. I really hope last year wasn't an illusion, he was really solid last year and he needs to be in 8th and 9th innings in LF in every game with a lead.

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
EloyJenkins replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hendriks is going to be an overpay. That is why I am still torn over their plan this offseason. Sign Bauer for 35+ and go with a platoon RF/DH (6-8 mil) with Engel and buy a Set up guy for a cheaper rate (4-5 mil) and move Bummer to Closer or Trade for Lynn (9mil), Lose Dunning and still need another SP (8-10 mil), Sign Eaton (7mil), Hendriks (13 mil) and still need a DH option. Obviously Bauer was going to be the more expensive option...but is it that much more? Oh well. -
Blake Snell and Yu Darvish traded to San Diego
EloyJenkins replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What I find really strange about both deals...Why didn't the Rays or Cubs wait longer until Bauer, Springer or Realmuto signed? You could have had desperate teams willing to throw in a Gore or something big for the losing teams. With almost ZERO FA movement so far this year on the premium pieces...are prices going to be driven down after these trades since the suitor pool has just decreased by at least 6 teams? (Padres, Sox, Rangers, Cubs, Rays & Braves -since they made their moves already) -
Blake Snell and Yu Darvish traded to San Diego
EloyJenkins replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Lynn reups for another season or 2...the Sox got a better deal. Sox need innings. Lynn guarantees that. Darvish is great when on, but oh so troubled at times. Gio, Lynn & Keuchel is still very good. I don't see why people are going crazy over not getting Darvish. And while Snell was a reasonable deal...you simply do not trade with the Rays and win. Bauer is still the solution that was best....but why didn't the Padres just do that? clearly his price is out of reach for everyone currently. -

AJ Preller just won GM of the year before the year has started. Impressive. -

In a winnable division the Cubs roster has been gutted with almost no solid return. Holy shit. The Padres are probably the best team in baseball NOW and still can make more moves if they want. So glad Sox only see them in the World Series 3 out of the next 5 seasons... -

The off-season still is not over. As I said earlier...the rockies and dbacks may be motivated more than ever to retool with what they have and there are still really GOOD FA options still obtainable. I get people being jealous of the Padres having a historic day...but for months the rhetoric here has been 5-7 years, not 2-3. Well the Padres really want all in on 2-3. Let's see what Sox roster looks like late February before you jump off a bridge. And be honest...Padres HAVE to do this to compete with Dodgers...Sox have very little competition in the AL the next few years as teams are currently. -

Which roster would you take right now, pre any Darvish deal? I'm still taking Sox position players over Padres 9/10 times. And Kopech could be a stud which makes the pitching closer than many think. -

EloyJenkins replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I called it that they would probably do one more move! In all honesty though...The White Sox need to be ALL over the Rockies and D-Backs rosters. Marquez, Gallen - try and steal anyone you can because those teams have ZERO chance the next 3-4 years. -
Blake Snell and Yu Darvish traded to San Diego
EloyJenkins replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
they definitely had the advantage of a VERY deep farm system for being awful for a decade. It wouldn't surprise me if they make one more trade honestly. they are a force now in the way of the Sox winning it all for years. Clevinger backfired in a big way...but that trade was just quantity anyways. This one has some decent quality and SD will not have any depth or reinforcements coming if they make any other trades. I applaud them though for going for it. it's refreshing. I honestly didn't want to lose Kopech & Crochet, but everyone else is fine. If Lynn signs an extension...I am very much happier with 3 years of Lynn for dunning vs 3 years of Snell with gutting any talent left.
