Let's get Darvish from the Cubbies as well since they clearly don't value their assets. I like the hire. Sox making big boy moves as an up and coming team should be. -

imagine Lopez being a shut down set up guy and getting his remaining value realized. -

Ethan Katz to appear this afternoon on WSCR

If he improves on his curve and uses it more....he can be the best pitcher in baseball. So I hope Katz can unlock it. -
Realmuto is going to have a real depressed market if the Mets are out. I see this two ways...using this as leverage to land Realmuto or they truly are signing one of Bauer or Springer and going more economical with McCann. Nice plan for the Mets so far.

Joc is a This is what I was thinking actually. If you can have Joc and Dahl you can piece together defensive alignment all over the field. Late game defense of the combo of Robert, Joc, Dahl, and Engel is world class.
-
Dahl has had 2-3 months of really good MLB play, and tons of time nursing minor and major injuries. He is 26 (which is great), but Is he really the right fit for a team that wants to win now? I'm just not sure it makes enough sense. Potential is definitely there and his fielding would be better than many options. I guess it really comes down to the contract demands for Joc and others. He should definitely be in play...but looking deeper into his numbers and history it seems too much like a project.
-
No. No he won't, unless he realizes the bullpen is his landing spot. His shoulder won't support a starter workload anymore.
-
Totally agree on this. He needs two years for sure and he may never be a guy. But you gotta take a chance with the cuban connection and cost and assume that Eloy does become DH. He could align nicely with the "second wave" philosophy if they don't trade everyone. I think JBJ or Springer needs to be signed for the now window anyways, as I worry that another 1 year stopgap would rush Colas and that is NOT a good plan.

Oscar Colas officially a FA. Can be signed January 15th. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/oscar-colas-declared-free-agent-by-npbs-softbank-hawks.html#comments

A new lefty masher to think about: Sung-Bum Na. Getting posted. Was a center fielder, moved to right in 2015...had knee surgery late 2019 and may be limited as a full time RF...but could be an interesting Platoon idea. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/kbo-slugger-sung-bum-na-posted-mlb.html Boras and his posting fee probably is moot now with Rosario, but at least RF is starting to have some backup plans when Springer most likely signs elsewhere.

holy hell that is inside baseball. what a creep.

Turned out it wasn't a minor deal after all... I'll see myself out.

Toronto will have to overpay due to funky Ontario taxes, correct? I wonder if Springer and Agent are comparing a higher Blue Jays offer and what it REALLY is after all the number crunching compared to a lower offer stateside from the Sox or other mystery teams. It always seems like FA signings in Toronto get complicated. Side question. With Covid still out there...will Toronto be in Buffalo again next season? Does that make them less desirable even though that smooths the money weirdness.

Looks like the Cubs are going to tender him with hopes to trade him after deadline. https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2020/11/30/21726544/cubs-will-tender-kris-bryant-contract

Does Bauer have any connection to Katz at all? That would be an interesting angle if they have crossed paths professionally. -
Touché. Does Cease have the ceiling that Gio has? Wasn't Gio the top pitching prospect in all of baseball for 2 years? I can't remember where Dylan peaked at.
-
Sox will never be the 240 million dollar payroll Dodgers. Rays were just a young team in 2019 as well and honestly...the Yankees are good, but are very beatable in the playoffs especially. I also think 2022-23 is probably the realistic "win the world series" peak of this team...but 2021 could be very well winnable with a couple key FA acquisitions.
-
100% agree on those 3. Cease and Dunning for hopefully 2+ years of control preferably and everyone else should be tradable for rentals outside of Jared Kelley added to your untouchables.
-
The Cubs rebuild went very similar...and they had a "suprise" good team a year early and won the world series the next season. Sox had their surprise year in 2020 and 2021 should be all in with one more starter, right? What is holding them back since every position player is basically locked in.
-
yeah, I think him being a #5 by end of season with kopech slotting into the playoff rotation would be my expectation and good case scenario. Gio/Lynn/Keuchel/Kopech could be a pretty great playoff rotation if they all are clicking.
-
Why not both? Lynn and Quintana...and that still leaves enough cash for a good RF. Giolito Lynn Keuchel Quintana Kopech/Dunning or Cease depending which of Dunning or Cease would be traded for Lynn. Could you get Lynn for Stiever/Dalquist or Thompson /mid tier prospect? That would be the ideal scenario, but leaves a major log jam at SP if they signed Q.

I wonder if all the vaccine advancements has really changed perception on next season. It has to be encouraging owners that at least the 2nd half of the season will have fans and they are more willing to take risks. Encouraging indeed!
