Maybe the Twins marketing picked up on Win or Jermaine Dye Trying...
-
I know they will regress...but regression for them probably means 90-93 wins still. Are Sox prepared to win that many? At THIS point of the off-season I say not yet. I'd say 86-89 feels about right and MAYBE a chance at 90-92 if everything went perfect.
-
Twins will most likely win the division in 2020. So they can be cocky. But from 21-24, the White Sox should not only win the division but potentially be world series contenders. Let them have their opinions, but once the core is in place and we see progression (it's coming) then we can enjoy their futility

I agree that Jimenez (if September is his future) should bat third...I just don't see RR doing it.
-
Robert is going to be a Soriano in his prime type of leadoff hitter...40 bombs a season ish (with juiced ball FOR SURE). Having him give the team the lead in 12-18 games a season is such a huge thing for a young pitching staff. With opposing starters wanting to establish their fastball...he is going to CRUSH some cookies. #2 spot is the one that is most interesting to me. TA, Yoan or Grandal all would be interesting, but I lean towards Yoan. Robert, Moncada, Abreu, Grandal, Eloy, Encarnacion is insane.

Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread

Really, Really good. As in top 10 (arguably 5) in baseball good. It's going to cost for that. -
Pillars defensive numbers have tanked. I'd rather just use Engel for the elite defense and solid lefty splits and save the money for something else
-
Plus moving to the cell may help even more. I wonder what his cubs specific numbers were playing next to almora
-
Fair enough. Maybe even mid season makes more sense once some prospects could really take off.
-
is this the perfect time to pounce on a SP trade? Seems like Hahn has won the off-season so far...but imagine a mic drop #1 or 2 Starter trade on top off all that he has done. Who to target and who would get it done without destroying the future? I could see it. I just get this feeling.

Free Agent relief pitcher ideas besides Betances

If Kopech looks great and cease takes a step forward...could Rodon be their shutdown setup man? I know it's not ideal for his career...but for the team... -
Tough. The reality is that he is best served in a platoon. We are talking a 3+ WAR position if it's a smart platoon (great defense hopefully) ...he is no more than 2 WAR absolute Max by himself. It's interesting to see he can overcome the thumb problems like Moncada did, but expecting him to improve into their singular RF is not realistic even if he shows improvement in his BABIP which should increase. I am a fan of the trade and like the risk...but he is never going to reach his prospect ceiling
-
But 15 of those could turn to homers...
-
Engels work against lefties was great last year as well. I don't think they need to upgrade. Save the money for pitching or next season.
-
His market clearly is in duress...which is the perfect time to pounce on him. Plus this move is a nice middle Finger to Cubs fans as Sox are clearly stealing most baseball headlines the next several seasons in Chicago. If they make this move, McCann deal may be in the works. That is what the winter meetings are for...plant the seeds and see if everything falls into place.
-
Between Robert and Madrigal...you want Luis on the opening day roster way more and he imo is a smaller risk at locking in. Madrigal can contract up after a year or two of success, since his impact will not be potentially top 25 player in baseball ceiling like Roberts. I'm really impressed with this offseason. If only Wheelers wife wasn't there to muck it up.

yeah. the make-up of the rest of the club is definitely a winning formula. So weird that they really cheapened out after 101 wins. Shocking actually.
-
i think the Twins will pick up a starter or two that overperform. Nova definitely being a prime candidate for that. Or maybe Alex Wood. They just have a knack for getting way too much out of mediocre players. BUT...they will not win more than 92 games at the very most this season, and probably are more in the 87-90 range.
-
They will try everything they can to dump Price first. If they can't find takers, then maybe they explore JDM. If they want Betts long term though they probably have to trade Price and JDM.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option

Not sure if posted yet... But really nice breakdown. https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/dallas-keuchel-yasmani-grandal-join-forces.html -

The more I think about Grandals framing and Keuchels pitching style, the more I think a 3.25ish ERA is really possible. I wanted Strasburg (way too expensive) or Wheeler ( bridezilla), but this move is really solid to be competitive. They won't win a world series with Keuchel as their #2, but if Giolito is a top ten pitcher and Kopech or Cease hit their ceilings, 2021 has quite a good rotation -

Didn't lose a pick or prospects...and saved a lot of cash over wheeler. I'll make a bet that the next two seasons that Keuchel has better numbers than wheeler. After that his arm is gonna fall off, but this is solid and much better than price for slightly cheaper money.
