It's very rare for a pitcher to change his arm action.  He's been throwing a certain way his entire life and to change that when you're 25 years old is extremely risky especially for a guy who has already had an arm surgery.  He's going to put stress on muscles and ligaments that may not have had stress on them before.  Obviously I hope it works out but I'm not sure he was at the point in his career where he had to make a major adjustment like this.

what choice does he have? Either change it and stay in the league or be out of baseball in 2 years. If he has another 7ish ERA season, his chances at sticking in the league as a starter are over. He doesn't seem like a bullpen candidate to me either.

    The White Sox lineup

    1. Leury Garcia (S) CF
    2. Yoan Moncada (S) 3B
    3. Jose Abreu (R) 1B
    4. Yonder Alonso (L) DH
    5. Eloy Jimenez (R) LF
    6. Daniel Palka (L) RF
    7. Tim Anderson (R) SS
    8. James McCann (R) C
    9. Yolmer Sanchez (S) 2B

Alonso is lucky he is a lefty. But other than having Castillo in place McCann this is the about the right to start. I think by mid season if Anderson really improves his OBP and Eloy is as advertised a 2-6 of Moncada, Abreu, Eloy, Palka, Anderson could be realistic.

  3. Eloy, Robert, Harper....oh what could have been.

Anyways - Eloy, Robert, Basabe will be really good in 2020 at some point with L. Gonzalez chomping at the bit. Jon Jay will be serviceable this season as a bandaid for FA failure.

If Rutherford rakes this season I fully expect him to get packaged with some relievers and prospects for another starter.

Ouch, topping off at 91?  This could be like the Shields experience all over again.

The beauty this year though is he is much cheaper so Banuelos can step in until Cease is ready. Will be interesting to see if Cease gets a locked up contract and they bring him up sooner if he destroys AAA.

  5. I think Cubs are just trying to give happy reality check. I don't think they are looking to trade him yet. If he comes up and struggles again though...I'm sure they would take offers.
