  1. Robby Ray just had a cy young season in the AL east...and turned 30 last month. He is getting 25million AAV for 5-6 years. That IS the market this offseason with very few younger arms available.
  2. Good for him. With a slightly stronger 2nd half he would have nailed this. Robby Ray is a lock here.
  3. They also can use the fact that they didnt play games with him as an extension tactic...one that has a strong chance this season or next. Sox have done amazing work Not F'ing prospects over and offering meaningful, discounted extensions when it feels right for both.
  4. to this point...what rookie or younger player exceeded expectations this year? Obviously Robert put up ridiculous numbers...but the expectation for him should be star or potentially superstar. Here is where I see progression v regression: 1B - Abreu / BU Vaughn = to 2021 - Abreu may hit higher average, but track record is here 2B - FA ++ production in 2022 - Can't see how it could be worse than what we got SS - Anderson = to 2021 - Anderson will be fully healthy and capable of improving on defense and minor power uptick 3B - Moncada + to 2021 - Moncada should have all long covid effects gone and get a full off-season to condition RF - FA / Sheets + production based on Free agent pickup CF - Robert = to 2021 - the overall numbers will be bigger than last year because of time missed, but expect ridiculous production here LF - Eloy + to 2021 - a fully healthy Eloy HAS to produce huge power numbers or this team doesn't take next step C - Yaz/FA = to 2021 - Yaz put up numbers in-line with his career and expect more high OBP/power results. what they do with backup will matter defensively, not offensively DH - Vaughn / Sheets / Yaz + to 2021 - Vaughn getting more seasoning and Sheets being used properly for matchups should provide great production over 2021 results Realistically...every position player should produce equal to or higher production than 2021 IF they stay mostly healthy. 1B, C, SS and maybe 3B stay flat, but everywhere else has room for growth. This team is going to be GOOD to GREAT in 2022 offensively. On the pitching side, Giolito can be better, Lynn will regress, Cease will improve slightly and Kopech is a wild card. Expect about the same production out of this group. Bullpen - I just can't imagine this group being worse, especially in the luck department. Improvement is very handicapped by TLR intuition. But surface level should be lower expectations on the talk track...but better overall results as a progression to the potential.
  5. the Braves outfield defense was statistically awful. Robert alone has more value than what they were trotting out. They got hot at the right time and had an unreal bullpen run. that is why they won.
  6. I get my one last b**** in. I'm good now.
  7. Congrats to the Braves, my inherited 2nd team by proximity...but this hurts, im angry and annoyed.
  8. they will be able to use covid as an excuse for that if they need to.
  9. This isn't a b**** thread. OP clearly stated the rules. Please only post solutions/expectations and take whining to the general off-season thread. K, thanks.
  10. What I want them to do: Sign Scherzer for $2/80 (I don't care what it costs, including dumping Keuchel for peanuts) Put Kopech on a throwing program right now and ramp up for the #5 spot (Scherzer/Lynn/Gio/Cease/Kopech) Trade Crochet/Vaughn for Bryan Reynolds. / or sign Starling Marte La Stella trade for 2B Sign best Defensive Catcher available What they will do: Quintana for SP depth until Crochet starts second half (They HAVE to limit Dallas to under 160 innings) Miss out Starling Marte and settle for a mediocre RF Sign Escobar (2B) for too much money Trade Kimbrel for another bad SD contract coming back (potentially an OF) Give Collins one more year before they have to cut bait completely
  11. Hell yes. Although I would also be okay with the Braves rocking their socks off and embarrassing them as Option B. GO BRAVOS!!!
  12. IF La Russa is back (seems so) and the looming CBA negotiations coming...I really don't see the end of season presser being even important. what are they gonna say that fans don't already know?
  13. Vaughn, Burger, Dalquist or Thompson and Adolfo for Bryan Reynolds. I know that probably doesn't get it done...but one thing that would- Crochet & Vaughn. Eloy, Robert, Reynolds is by far the best outfield in baseball in all aspects. Bryan is a switch hitter, and he is about to get expensiveish so you know Pirates will be listening. Eloy can move to DH or even 1st base IF Cespedes figures things out for 2023 and while losing Vaughn will suck, as long as Pito is on this team he has no place. Burger is gone since Montgomery and Kath are the future 3B / SS depth and Yoan and Anderson are locked until that happens. If Crochet isn't in the rotation by mid next season...what is really his value? what a mismanagement by the FO and capitalize now if you can. I hate to have to push the deal to reality with Garrett, but Reynolds solves almost every need and you go cheap on the 2nd base option then.
  14. Yep. I should have gone tonight. Tickets were readily available. Maybe i go to the world series just to get a good "what could have been"
  15. This is asinine. Nothing they have done shows otherwise
  16. Here are your FA corner lists: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/10/previewing-the-2021-22-free-agent-class-corner-outfield.html Pretty underwhelming tbh. I also think the dugout hit to Eloy lingered far more than we imagined. Up until that point he was a destroyer of baseballs and cratered immediately. Imo if you trade him, he will reach his star potential somewhere else.
  17. Gallo seems like the type of player that will come to the Sox and the power will decrease even more, leaving you with an absolutely awful player. I was shocked how badly he played for Yankees and that short porch.
  18. My very poignant gif was deleted tonight, so i will spell it out instead: shoot me in the head.
  19. in 2005, every single bounce, call and shift went the Sox way. in 2021 the Astros got all of them minus game 3. dems tha breaks.
  20. This is the big issue here. Long term option was last year in Springer (too expensive) and finding a 2 year deal is tricky. Based on his age & likelihood of only needing 2-3 years, Starling Marte is a good play...but he isn't Lefty. HIs splits play well though, so it's not a horrible idea. Cespedes has not shown enough yet unfortunately to lock him into a set date.
  21. I have had a few days to decompress and calm down. As one of the resident "Optimists" on this board, this season is the biggest failure I can remember. 2000 stung, but the talent level in pitching this year was far superior. 3 things I see as Absolutely necessary items to address: -Lynn MUST go on a conditioning program. The 60 to full season jump affected him more than anyone else. Love his fire, but he needs to put the work in this offseason and be sustainable next year. Without him being effective come October, the season is already at risk. -2 Fielding fundamentals mini-camps. I can't stress this enough. Do an optional one in December/January, and then make a mandatory camp a couple days before spring training. I really hope this comes with a new manager (doubtful), but at the very least ALL the fielders need to tighten up and have video/tactical plans clearly outlined. I know this is a huge ask and prima donna attitudes will reign, but poor alignment/shifts, lazy technique, and improper cut off man/relays destroyed this team against Houston. Embarrassing and unacceptable. - Make analytical FA signings/trades, not splashy ones. This team has star power and is situated very well the next 2 seasons. The RF target needs to be LH and launch angle focused and the 2B ideally has some speed, pop and most importantly is defensively above average. these players can be bought (Semien, Conforto, etc...) but knowing payroll and escalations going forward, I really would love to see a deeper effort put into savvy moves. Eaton was exactly the WRONG type of move, and I really wish for Hahn to get some outside consultant help if needed. I think if those items are addressed the team stands a much better chance to enhance the already solid team. I expect the rotation of Gio, Lynn, Cease, Keuchel & Kopech to be set, but a 6th starter HAS to be in the works as well (since Keuchel & Kopech will be on inning limits).
  22. This deal becomes a SOLID piece for a salary floor team. Oh crap, we need to add payroll, want a good talent, and only need a year commitment...okay. Maybe a middling team thinks he helps them make a push and wont have to give up much for him. He absolutely would get 12+ for a year on the open market even with the post trade issues. He was in the wrong role.
  23. It has been a pleasure gents. While not the outcome we wanted, the season was the best since 2008. Let's argue over money moves that won't happen for the next 3 months! Peace out tonight!
  24. Agreed on all points. the lack of development for Moncada and Eloy really hurts. and even though Madrigal is one dimensional...it's a great dimension that stinks for 2 innings of Kimbrel. Hahn absolutely needs a star. There are several available, no excuses, the ticket gates were great in a covid season.
