  1. I would rather have Abrams than Witt. Witt's age concerns me when compared to Abrams. Abrams a more talented kid.
  2. Madrigal is responsible for his development. Excusing him by blaming someone else is a lazy way out. Madrigal wasn't/isn't supposed to require a significant amount of development. I'm still convinced he'll figure it out.
  3. Baseball scouting is so inexact that it's not abnormal for one team (or a collection) to like a guy in the top 5 while another team may not like him in the 1st round at all.
  4. By all accounts, Vaughn will stay at first and is far supreme to Beer in that regard... also, Vaughn had less swing and miss in his game, and has shown more consistency. Beer, by my personal opinion, was under drafted though because of prospect fatigue and because people fall in love with possibility more than production. Vaughn would be the #1 pick in the draft if he was left handed or if he was 6'4. The fact that he is neither of those things actually has next to zero impact on his likely outcomes so they really shouldn't determine where he's drafting.
  5. This obsession with Madrigal at this point is a bit much. He's played less than one full season of professional baseball and was coming off a debilitating injury. He's not a finished product. No one who is 5'6 is ever a SAFE pick. The Sox took a chance there, but Madrigal does some things really well.
  6. Not sure what this means; JD Martinez was signed for free. He's the best hitter in baseball possible. Does that mean you shouldn't invest in strong hitting outfielders? Comparing CJ Cron to Andrew Vaughn is like comparing Adam Eaton to Bryce Harper.
  7. This is exactly why you should be taking Vaughn; the fact that he is this high despite stigma's like yours shows how good his bat is. I like to draft elite tools - they are safer than unrefined tools. He may lack elsewhere, but those two tools he has are so loud it's crazy
  8. Yes Jack, if he doesn't perform it's a bad pick but if he does it's a good one. He's the safest pick in the draft; there is risk tied to every draft pick in baseball, but Vaughn is about as safe as it gets. I understand your argument - 2 tool guys have more risk than 5 tool guys in turns of being complete busts - but you just don't get where Vaughn is without being about as can't miss of a hitter as you'll find. Vaughn could roll out of bed tomorrow and hit 25-30 hr's and 250 in the big leagues tomorrow. His ceiling is the best hitter in baseball. You just shouldn't pass on that.
  9. I thought seth beer was under drafted for this same reason. He had some contact questions that didn't help his cause but he dominated the college scene for 3 years offensively. He has no glove or position really though. Beer is crushing the ball this year in AA.
  10. I would not pass on Vaughn if he's there. To get where he is draft status wise takes an incredible amount of bat talent... to overcome to stigma of RH 1B college bats in round one being a horrible pick.
  11. There's a lot of great pitchers that work deathly slow - Lester and Price to name two. It sure is nice to have a fast worker who is good.
  12. 26 swinging strikes for Lucas tonight. That's really good. Scherzer had 33 during his 20 strike out game and he threw 15 more pitches. 26 might be the most in a game this year. Not positive how many sale had in the 17k game.
  13. Lol why wouldn't he be? Guys pitch both ends of DH all the time.
  14. Thank the rain in the forecast during his 5 inning CG.
  15. Must he incorrect reporting. I'm guessing it was Lucas high school English teacher who came up with the idea and deserves full credit.
  16. No. I'm sure theyve scouted countless high school kids at this point. It's certainly not Abrams or Witt.
  17. I don't think they drafted a reliever or closer based on need.
  18. I mean... when did the Sox ever draft based on need? The fact that their version of the best player available actually sucked and wasn't that doesn't mean that wasn't the philosophy ha.
  19. Think maybe we're talking about a different conversation; I heard him mention this yesterday and thought he was talking about this year. I could have misunderstood though.
  20. Seemed like it was a high school kid from what he was implying - he talked about going to a game, and having heard bad things about his relationship with his teammates possibly. Then they saw him the entire time and not a single teammate talked to him or high fived him or anything like that. He was a hermit in his own dugout and the Sox said they will pay on him for that reason. Would love to know who they were talking about.
  21. No one is a fan of doing that, which speaks volumes to how damn good Vaughn and his bat are. No one wants to take a RH 1B this early, but Vaughn is so good that everyone wants to take a RH bat first. People underrate what Vaughn has had to overcome to get this type of prospect status. I tend to always want the guy who has to overcome a lot of bad stigmas.
  22. I broke my wrist as a kid. I remember when I took the cast off my wrist was half the size as when I had put it on. Baseball is all hands and wrists. He broke it less than 18 months ago.
  23. Wrist. Injuries. Destroy. Hitters. The Sox knew that when they drafted him. He'll absolutely fully recover but wrist injuries can destroy your swing for over a year.
  24. Ichiro hit the ball a long way in BP but Ichiro did not play with power at all so it really didn't benefit him.
  25. India has arguably been worse than Madrigal so far and Madrigal was coming off a wrist injury which can take a full year+ to fully recover from.
