  1. What? I'm not sure what this means. Prospect growth and development isn't linear, and Rutherford was slightly overrated based on production vs younger competition in high school. That said, they got a top 100 prospect for a relief pitcher who has had one good year. They got about as much for Kahnle as you could expect, and as I noted Frazier and Robertson provided zero surplus value so you weren't getting anything but an organization filler for them.
  2. Fallen how? The midseason update dropped him 30 spots but he was still back ending almost all top 100 lists. Kahnle had as much value as they got. He had one good season in his career and battled control his entire career. The fact that the Sox pretty much got a top 100 prospect for him should be celebrated. Frazier and Robertson were nothing more than salary dumps - Frazier had negative surplus value and Robertson was about break even despite being good. If you thought Tommy Kahnle was worth a top 50 prospect idk what to tell you.
  3. Quality in what way? Kahnle had an ERA near 7 last year, Todd Frazier had a WAR of 1.5. Robertson was quality but there was no surplus value there given his contract. They got a top 100 prospect for two guys who arent good. Also, its April 16th so it's absolutely comical to draw any conclusions on bats or worry about any starts. They'll hit.
  4. Yes, Collins who is just outside a lot of top 100 lists by people who think he cant catch ALSO think he can't hit... so they rank him there because he's bad at everything. Bat first power guys seem to be underrated by the scouting community. We'll see if he can make enough contact to be the next one to prove that.
  5. Yes, you know how they will both pan out in the big leagues.
  6. Yes, because the Sox gave up so much.
  7. Hits dont always tell the story in regards to how you're swinging it.
  8. How is he a low end starting SS anyway? He was league average at 24.
  9. Nick hitting .351 but I'm sure the critics will continue to Harp on something in regards to his start.
  10. No chance. A lot of good swings. He won't survive the top 5 in the order next time through.
  11. I thought they would tee off on this guy second time through. Surprised to be honest. Doubt they get a chance to all seem him 3 times either.
  12. Yes, Honda. You made a misinformed post that the Sox don't pay for top talent anywhere - citing an announcing job. He pointed out the Sox have the most acclaimed in-park voice in sports. As well as the two people I listed.
  13. They had the best trainer in sports for multiple decades and have the best grounds keeper alive. People clamoring for Hawk and ripping Benetti are an interesting group. Benetti light years better at this point. Edit: I forgot about Honda as well.
  14. Yoan running in a pitch out situation is Renteria fault too? Lol
  15. Nah, his mechanics got so fucked up last year he lost his velocity too. His start to this season has been very promising from a stuff stand point. Now he needs to work on repeating his delivery and release point. Big arms take a long time to figure things out. He is a massive man with a lot of moving parts.
  16. Yeah, I'm not sure if he expected everyone to get off to hot starts. The season just started. I'd say Walker has looked good too.
  17. Nah, especially today. The talent has been decimated. The Cuban leagues today are A maybe. Certainly not anywhere near AA. Only foreign leagues that are equal or better to AA baseball is the nippon league. That's really it. If you want to link something that says that I'd love to read it. I have the statistical adjustments being similar to A ball. Not a huge sample but...
  18. I'm not going to get into why Dombrowski isn't a very good general manager. He has acquired teams with great farm talent, traded it all, and aged the roster rapidly. Or in the red Sox case, he acquired a finished product with spending flexibility.
  19. This is what people fail to understand once an outcome occurs... they didnt win because of Aroldis Chapman. What they may have done is cost themselves a significant amount of value in the long run and hampered their chances of winning over an extended period of time. Just because you win does not mean all your moves were smart. That assumption is OK for fans to make, I guess, as fans succumb more to outcome bias. But signing Heyward wasnt smart just because they won the world series, so why is a trade smart just because they won. Why do people think that way? Because present day value is something we witness in the moment. Fv is something that takes time to come to fruition. That's why bad free agent signings are still bad even if you win - because fans presently see his shitty value - but bad trades are forgotten... because fans don't see the exact value of the trade until years after. To someone whose job is to value talent, both present and future, that trade was an absolute train wreck and pretty much everyone would agree. Look at the other relievers trades. The Cubs gave up so much more for even less time than Cleveland gave up for Miller - as an example.
  20. 95% of the team was acquired, drafted and developed by someone else. You want to pat the guy on the back for signing jd Martinez? Sale is a big TBD too. He didnt do much down the stretch or in the playoffs. He was actually bad. Then he signs him to an extension. I love sale but if you want to pat a GM on the back for thinking that Sale and JD Martinez were good then you better be ready to pat a lot of backs.
