  1. The bulls problem is more about cold weather cities in basketball and the Jordan hangover. For a while players didnt like how Jordan and pippen were treated. Then they didnt want to pay on a team in which Jordan would always be the biggest bull ever and not them.
  2. Just angry anti-Jerry people here. Being top 5 spenders multiple times and being compared to a team that is sitting in the 20s every year and has one year with a total payroll of 37 million lol.
  3. What is ironic? That the Padres averaged payrolls around 25th in baseball for 15 years and the Sox were about 8th over a 10 year period. What's ironic is people think those things are similar because ONE year in 15 the Padres spent 30ish million less than the sox.
  4. Yes, but the Sox sustained top tier payrolls. Also, the Sox payrolls were higher earlier which effectively makes them higher. Jerry proved he'd spend top 5 money for a winner. San Diego has never proven they'll spend top 15 money period.
  5. The White Sox had TOP FIVE payrolls in baseball. What are you talking about Jack? 2013 - 8th 2012 - 10th 2011 - 5th 2010 - 7th 2009 - 12th 2008 - 5th 2007 - 5th 2006 - 4th How can you even compare these two teams? One team has been in the top 10, 6 of the last 12 years. The other team has never been in the top half of the league.
  6. Honestly, just seeing that IDK why anyone would sign there. They have never even been in the top half of the league in payroll. They aren't a franchise with cash rich owners either. The Padres are what they are - big spenders not being one.
  7. Why do you keep citing the climate my man? Baseball is a summer sport. No one is suffering. Chicago is a great summer city. If he was signing on to play football and wanted to be warm, sure... this would make sense. The reality is Jack, that the White Sox are being considered because they have been the most involved and they have stated that would be the case for TWO YEARS. You act like the Sox wouldn't be interested if the Yankees or Dodgers were involved? That's nonsense. The White Sox had no clue that the Yankees would be out when they circled and targeted this free agent class. They haven't signed because they haven't gotten the offer they want from ANYONE. It has nothing to do with the White Sox, or the weather in San Diego.
  8. The Padres the past 10 years in payroll: 2018 - 25th 2017 - 28th 2016 - 16th 2015 - 22nd 2014 - 21st 2013 - 26th 2012 - 30th 2011 - 28th 2010 - 29th 2009 - 29th IN 2010, the Padres nearly had a payroll that was lower than the $ Manny is asking for per year lol. They have never spent more than 112 million in a season. They've spent over 100 million twice in their franchises history. Nothing indicates the San Diego Padres can compete, salary wise, with the White Sox.
  9. The Sox are worth 300 million more than the Padres. They play in one of the three biggest TV markets in the country. They've had top 5 payrolls multiple times in the past 14 years - the Padres have never had a top 5 payroll - I dont even think a top 10 but could be wrong. They just arent the same.
  10. Guys, I've said this before but manny isnt involves in negotiations. You hire agents for a reason. His agent gives him occasional updates but it's not like manny is sitting in a room with Lozano negotiating and getting angry. His agent handles this and will contact him when he is ready to have machado sign.
  11. Belief from who? Jaysus. Enough of this stuff. Same has been said about the Sox and Phillies.
  12. A formal offer not a set number was what they wanted.
  13. If they met his asking price hed be signed. Theres no way they would actually not meet with them if they were going to travel to see him. That would be dumb of Lozano. The more perceived bidders the more pressure you can apply. If he can say, see the Padres really are interested. My skepticism is high because no one gets in late with the idea of spending 250 million that wasnt in the budget when it started... and if by chance that did happen, it certainly wouldnt be the padres.
  14. Why? The Padres have no money. They're not going to lock up 400 million on machado and Hosmer when they have consistently run payrolls under 100 million forever.
  15. There is ZERO chance either one signs a one year deal. The Padres aren't getting either one. They havent even made offers. The Dodgers? Come on man... you're just worried about nothing. The Dodgers and Yankees are out. The Dodgers arent paying high bracket luxury tax. Why would they have room next year but not this year? That makes zero sense. They'll be a year older and less valuable for long term deals too. If they had the money next year they'd have it this.
  16. To who? Everyone who keeps saying this, tell me the two destinations those two go that leaves the Sox in second.
  17. Why are you certain of this? The Phillies have been linked to Harper much more, and the Sox offer hasn't been reportedly too high so why wouldn't they just move in and lock him up? I have no idea why you're certain of this. I tend to believe what was posted above - the Sox and Phillies don't want either team getting a big bargain, but it feels to me the Phillies aren't all-in on Machado.
  18. Seems pretty logical to me. They don't want to invest in both, and they feel they have a better shot at harper, so they're not going to throw an offer out there to beat the Sox offer if that offer may be accepted and then they lose out on Harper. I'm not sure why this isn't logical - it makes complete sense in a negotiation.
  19. Because they have no interest in beating the offer the Sox have on the table at the moment? If an agent tells you this is the offer to beat and you don't want to beat it, what would continued negotiations mean? Maybe if Harper goes somewhere else, they reengage.
  20. Wait, why wouldn't this be believable. It is ENTIRELY possible that the Phillies were told the Sox offer and simply aren't prepared to beat that offer with the investment they want to make in Harper so they haven't been negotiating because they have no interest in beating that offer right now.
  21. I don't think you read his post correctly - all he said was the Phillies haven't been negotiating with Manny for weeks.
  22. But that's not what he said at all... he said the Phillies haven't negotiated with Manny for a couple weeks. That feels true, based on the pace of this and the silence. Honestly, outside of Heyman's absurd - mystery team has the high bid tweet which was probably told to him by Lozano - the White Sox have never been out of talks or negotiations. It seems the Sox are the leader in the clubhouse and Lozano wants MORE but is coming up empty.
  23. Shack has already said he follows the news very closely and he knows some people who share information with him because he has developed a relationship with them due to his fanhood and his obsession with Sox news ha. I respect that and believe it - don't see why the guy would lie. Nothing to gain from it.
  24. hasn't shack already been defended once here for having some knowledge of things? i don't see why we attack everyone who contributes - even if what they heard is misleading or untrue. We post absurd twitter rumors all day - might as well let him say his piece without being shot donwn.
