Albert Pujols had 101 RBI in 2017. A season where he slashed .241/.286/.386. That is a dogshit season that he got to 100 by having the best player maybe ever in front of him.
The Nats are allegedly offering Soto 180 million dollars in an extension. Not totally sure what that means for Moncada, but I imagine it makes things quite a bit more difficult.
Both of those guys got massive contracts that are more or less their market value. The Sox are looking for savings by extending pre-arb guys, if they can't get any they will and should wait out the 6 years.
Yup, Giolito was also born wealthy so there are definitely challenges. That isn't to say it's impossible, but I don't see how it wouldn't cause each of their numbers to rise.
Players can get better. They both are obviously greater than utility players now...
My point is, those are guys who came into the league playing multiple positions.
Ketel Marte and Max Muncy came up as Utility Players. Bellinger came up playing 1B but was a natural outfielder. These are completely different situations.
