  1. Jake Burger was the result of a team that still had Chris Sale, Jose Quintana and Adam Eaton on it. Alex Faedo is like the only guy picked after Burger that is worth anything at all.
  2. Whose to say they didn’t determine none of the other bigger bonus guys were worth signing so the used it on Tolbert? We won’t know if it was a failure for like 10 years.
  3. Nothing will ever top some dude very audibly yelling JOHN COUGAR MELLONHEAD at Brett Gardener on TV. It still makes me giggle. https://mobile.twitter.com/backaftathis/status/1027032949252927490?lang=en
  4. They might not even have their eye on cole. They’ve always tried(and always failed) to add big position player contracts. Thats not the case with pitchers. They seem completely averse to the idea. Seems to be the philosophy to not even entertain the idea with pitchers.
  5. Bauers on record saying he will only sign one year deals. I wouldn't put anything past that dude.
  6. Dude nobody hates Abreu (okay one person hates Abreu), some of us are just cautious of using long-term resources on him.
  7. They already have him for 2026. Were talking about 2027, a year which, unless they become a talent factory, will very likely not be in a championship window. They have a chance to be really good in 2020, if calling Robert up now helps that cause, I do it every time. Edit: never mind my math was off, but I stick by that being a tough sell to assume it's going to be a good year.
  8. It 100% the same situation, but it's worth discussing whether that's the right approach or not because you're likely not going to be able to strong arm Robert into an extension.
  9. Not necessarily, I bet you could find one or two or three 20 at-bat samples last year or 2017 that were similarly terrible.
  10. And I don't see how a few extra at-bats at AAA is going to make him suddenly not over matched. He's almost certainly going to struggle some out the gate no matter when he comes up. I'd rather get that out of the way now, and have an entire off season to attack the weaknesses the majors exposes that never will show their face in the minors. It's entirely possible that they see some adjustment they still need to see him make, that's fine, but if not all were doing is stalling development for some nebulous idea of sustained success.
  11. I think it's wrong to make this about 21 vs 28 when it's really whats best for 22-24 vs 28. Not going to pretend that I know what's best.
  12. I've said this before, but arguing whether or not he actually is ready is pointless. If he's ready today, it doesn't help anyone to hold him down. He should be up today. If there's still something you want to see from him and it takes until the end of august to see it, probably just leave him down until next year.
  13. Adolfo is already on the 40-man, but his injuries have allowed him an extra option year. Idk how the other two would work.
  14. It's not curtains for the guy, but he has to go nuclear next year to give himself a chance. It's also now very unlikely he can stick at 3rd. I'd put his chances of making the bigs low, and his chances of ever playing a game for the white sox even lower.
  15. The gap last year between Chapman and the second 3rd basemen in UZR last year was the same as the gap between number 2 and number 10. He was second in 2017...he played 84 games. He's a big cause of Semiens numbers looking so good, because he allows Marcus to shade his left. They guy has been absurdly good. Not trying to take anything away from Yoan, but he's not even really close to Chapman. Probably only Arenado is.
  16. You lose control of the player faster. Maybe he ages through most of his productive years before ever having a chance. Is he going to be in a position to 40-man when that time comes? He should realistically be approaching the majors next year, and instead will just be getting started.
  17. No but you said gold gloves : P It's going to be very difficult to impossible for Moncada to win until the A's decide they're done paying chapman.
  18. They have 5 more top 50 prospects, including one Top 5 prospect. They might not all hit, but the core isn't just 4 people. Saying it is is being disingenuous.
  19. You're likely getting nothing useful from a starting pitching standpoint with any of those guys. If you can great, but don't count on it. And don't chalk up not turning those guys into starting pitching as a failure of the FO.
  20. Yup, I'm holding unless someone blows the doors off, and poking around for ML ready controllable talent.
  21. Not as long as Chapman is in the AL. That dude is an all-timer
  22. Well considering the Red Sox have a 3B having a better year not in the All-Star game, as well as the single biggest all-star snub, I'm going to have to disagree with this. Third base is stacked, it is what it is. We might have the least deserving player in the game, it's hard to complain about representation when that is the case.
  23. There’s seriously no point in continuing to go over this. Maybe they trade someone else for an actually good pitcher. Cool, they win 81 games that year, maybe 85 the next two years. Awesome. Going over wouldas and couldas is useless.
  24. Yes that’s what I meant.
