  1. QUOTE (Jake @ May 14, 2012 -> 08:14 PM) NEWS FLASH: ERAs can be deceiving see Stewart, Zach I don't get it. But I'd say John Danks deserves his 6.50 ERA.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) $4 million buyout or $22 million option. If a team declines the option, they immediately owe him $4 million at that time. You have to take on the remaining contract ($6 million) and then the $4 million option, minimum, if you trade for him at the deadline. Well consider me pwn3d...although I could now argue it would be $9,666,667 at the deadline. I still think he has value at the deadline, but given the White Sox reluctance to spend money on prospects we won't pick up any of Peavy's salary or buyout, and end up either not moving him or receiving a box of broken bats in return.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) It's $10 million at the deadline. He's making $17M in 2012. Is some of the money deferred? How is 1/3 of $17M = $10M
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2012 -> 04:49 PM) No he won't that contract is huge. For half of a season? A contender in need of pitching wouldn't blink twice at an $8M dollar price tag for the best starting pitcher available at the trade deadline.
  5. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 7, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) The problem is that most of the parts we have to sell don't have all that much trade value. If Jake Peavy continues to perform at this level, he will have a boatload of trade value come mid-season. Thornton is another player with significant trade value.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 4, 2012 -> 05:31 PM) Exactly. The Sox drafted a closer. The flip side of this argument is if Sale had started in the minors maybe he would have hurt his arm before he got to MLB. So we drafted two closers in 3 rounds in 2010?
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) He spent the winter getting himself prepared for the role. He is hurting already. If you really think the reason he is sore now is because he didn't pitch 150 innings last season in Charlotte and would have had no problems doing that and if he did, be well on his way to 175-200 IP this year, all I can say is WOW. What are the chances he is sore already from the lingering wear and tear of a full season coming out of the bullpen last year? Considering he was a starting pitcher in college, and the White Sox decided to bring him along as a reliever, who's to say this isn't the carryover effect of him warming up 100 times and pitching 70+ innings in relief? There isn't a large enough sample size to convincingly argue either position.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ May 4, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) OK, Keith Law wannabe. You must be on the White Sox payroll given the defensive nature of this reply. Sounds markedly similar to the way Kenny Williams reacts when he is asked questions about the empty cupboard that is the White Sox farm system.
  9. The 2010 draft featured 1st and 3rd round picks that are now apparently permanent relief pitchers. I don't claim to be a scouting or draft guru, but that sounds like something the 30th rated farm system would do.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) It's cause they completely botched how they've handled Sale. He should have been starting in the minors last year so that he was ready to log starter's innings this year. This isn't exactly a new topic of conversation on here, and quite frankly, I'm sure a lot of people on here think it was just a matter of time before Sale got injured as a starter. And yes, you absolutely DL him instead of putting him in stressful situations (like which every other team in the majors would do). Also, Sox would probably feel more comfortable with putting him on the DL if not for the idiotic decision of making Santiago a closer out of ST. Cosign this entire post.
  11. This news is so messed up it has brought me back from the dead!!??! Are you kidding me?
  12. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:05 PM) Lol Tank is really slow This has to be a joke.
  13. Man do I love watching Viciedo, De Aza and Flowers play. Still have to sprinkle in an 0-4 from Rios to play dream crusher as usual.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) He wasn't very good tonight. Gave up a long two run double to a terrible hitter in Mathis. Got a lot of grounders at least, which is good to see. Far from his best outing. Didn't have his best fastball and was hanging breaking balls. I'm not sure why he was left in to give up that double either, but what do I know? This game season is over anyway.
  15. Adam Dunn is intentionally hitting into double plays, I'm sure of it. Just strike out when there is a runner on first! The decelerating swing was never a good idea.
