The Jarred Kelenic Appreciation Thread
Harold's Leg Lift replied to Harold's Leg Lift's topic in The Diamond Club
Holy shit that ball was hit so damn far the camera man couldn't follow it. -
If they go with a HS position player Pacheco is my guy. I think he's the best all around player with the highest ceiling and a real chance to get close to that ceiling. I like Kath he's got a lot of upside and Baez a little but damn he has a lot of swing and miss. I think Montgomery is a 2nd round guy. I'm out on Stovall. Will Taylor is super interesting but I would have to be 100% sure about his desire to play baseball.

Our hometown hero's doctored the baseball!?! Say it ain't so!

At the amatuer level they should always take spin rates with an asterics. When I typed spin I was talking about his ability to throw a breaking ball which he clearly has. I don't care about his spin rates.

I'll be interested to see how many players teams actually sign. I've been told teams with deep farm systems will only be able to sign 12-15 because if they sign more they would have to release players. The Sox won't have that problem so I would expect them to be very aggressive with picks 10-20.

That's the guy they have to try to get. -

It's very doubtful they get good value for anyone. I haven't heard any specifics but was told the trade market is "insane." The sellers are asking for the moon and then some. It's not going to be easy for them to acquire an impact player. -
Holy crap is this good. Projection, super athletic, clean ,easy, angle/deception, spin, feel. That's what they look like. Hurd would be an absolute steal if he makes it to the 2nd round.

He could've been the ultimate sell high guy when his stuff flashed for that 1/2 season in 2019.

I'm sure they're interested and yes he's a guy I like. Big, strong and athletic with tons of remaining projection. Sign me up.

You have to beat soft tossing lefties to their arm side. If you try to pull them you play right into their hands. -
Brody Brecht is the real deal.
-
Yes. I think a team with multiple picks (Reds, Marlins, etc) will take him and shave a little off to pair him with a high upside high schooler. It's a really good strategy.
-
I've seen him. He can really spin it but that's pretty much all he throws and he's not going to get away with throwing the same pitch to big league hitters. When he throws his fastball it doesn't have good shape and he doesn't locate it very well. He's old for a college guy but he's a tough kid who has been thru a lot and i'm sure some team will give him a chance as a money saver but generally if you draft a reliever you would like him to be a fast mover and I think he will have to spend time in the minors to work on refining his pitch mix and command.
